Results of the numerical simulation and experimental data analysis for identification of mode cutoff frequency and estimation of sound speed of seabed from the spectrum of acoustic signal received at fixed source-receiver range are presented. Model simulations for Pekeris waveguide show that the frequency-dependent propagation loss and interference pattern are closely related to mode cutoff frequencies and it could be possible to the identify them from the changes of interference pattern. The concept considered at numerical simulations is applied to signals acquired at sea test. Cutoff frequency and sound speed of seabed are estimated from the interference pattern of measured signal. Propagation loss predicted using the estimated sound speed of seabed as model input parameter shows similar estimation result compared to propagation loss derived from measured data.

The fluid generally flows through fractures in crystalline rocks where most of underground storage facilities are constructed because of their low hydraulic conductivities. The fractured rock is better to be conceptualized with a discrete fracture concept, rather continuum approach. In the aspect of fluid flow in underground, the simultaneous flow of groundwater and gas should be considered in the cases of generation and leakage of gas in nuclear waste disposal facilities, air sparging process and soil vapor extraction for eliminating contaminants in soil or rock pore, and pneumatic fracturing for the improvement of permeability of rock mass. For the purpose of appropriate analysis of groundwater-gas flow, this study presents an unsteady-state multi-phase FEM fracture network simulator. Numerical simulation has been also conducted to investigate the hydraulic head distribution and air tightness around Ulsan LPG storage cavern. The recorded hydraulic head at the observation well Y was -5 to -10 m. From the results obtained by the developed model, it shows that the discrete fracture model yielded hydraulic head of -10 m, whereas great discrepancy with the field data was observed in the case of equivalent continuum modeling. The air tightness of individual fractures around cavern was examined according to two different operating pressures and as a result, only several numbers of fractures neighboring the cavern did not satisfy the criteria of air tightness at 882 kPa of cavern pressure. In the meantime, when operating pressure is 710.5 kPa, the most areas did not satisfy air tightness criteria. Finally, in the case of gas leaking from cavern to the surrounding rocks, the resulted hydraulic head and flowing pattern was changed and, therefore, gas was leaked out from the cavern ceiling and groundwater was flowed into the cavern through the walls.

The performance of MAV(Micro Air Vehicles) propellers is highly affected by the aerodynamic characteristics of a 2-D blade airfoil shapes. XFOIL is used to predict the lift and drag coefficients in low Reynolds Number flows. ARA-D 6%, which shows a good performance in low Reynolds Number regions, is selected as a blade airfoil. The 3-D propeller blade shape is optimized with the minimum energy loss condition, and the distribution of aerodynamic coefficients of ARA-D 6% is calculated. The designed optimal blade is compared with the Black Widow's propeller blade shape in the same conditions. The results indicate that the designed propeller installed in MAV can provide a good performance.

This paper presents the results of a parametric study for the design of optimal Earth-Moon transfer trajectory using mixed impulsive and continuous thrust. Various types of the optimal Earth-Moon transfer trajectories were designed by adjusting the relative weight between the impulsive and the continuous thrust, and flight time. Two very different transfer trajectories can be obtained by different combination of design parameters. Furthermore, it was found that all thus designed trajectories permit the ballistic capture by the Moon gravity. Finally, the required thrust profiles are presented and analyzed in detail.

This paper deals with the anisotropy of the mushy region during solidification process of a binary mixture. A theoretical model which specifies a permeability tensor in terms of pricipal values is proposed. Also, the governing equations are modified into convenient forms for the numerical analysis with the existing algorithm. Some test computations are performed for soeidification of aqueous ammonium chloride solution contained in a square cavity. Results show that not only the present model is capable of resolving fundamental characteristics of the tranport phenomena, but also the anisotropy significantly affects the interdendritic flow structure, i.e., double-diffusive convection and macrosegregation patterns.
Saline groundwater, in addition to fresh groundwater, is actively developed for inland aqua culture in Jeju Island where groundwater is practically the only source of freshwater. In this work we analyzed impacts of saline and fresh groundwater development on groundwater systems in Sungsan subwatershed in Jeju. A sharp-interface model was used to simulate fresh and saline groundwater flows. Withdrawal of freshwater imparted adverse impacts by lowering groundwater level and inducing saltwater encroachment. Withdrawal of saline water imparted mixed results: on one hand it lowered groundwater level, on the other hand it reduced saltwater encroachments. However, freshwater development lowered groundwater level much more than salinewater development did. Modified Ghyben-Herzberg ratio was developed for a transition zone with finite width. Comparison against observed data resulted in fair agreement.
Forward modeling by construction of synthetic data is usually practiced in a horizontal surface and a few subsurface structures. However, in-situ surveys often take place in such topographic changes that the corrupted field data always make it difficult to interpret the right signals. To examine the propagation characteristic of elastic waves on the irregular surface, a general mesh generation code for finite element method was modified to consider the topography. By implementing this algorithm, the time domain modeling was practiced in some models with surface topography such as mound, channel, etc. The synthetic data obtained by receivers placed on surface also agreed with the analytic solution. The snapshots showing the total wave-field revealed the propagation characteristic of the elastic waves through complex subsurface structures and helped to identify the signals on the time traces. The transmission of Rayleigh waves along the surface, compressive waves, and sheer waves was observed. Moreover, it turned out that the Rayleigh waves behave like a new source at the edge.

In this paper, a new compact dual-band unequal power divider is suggested. Instead of the quarter wavelength transmission line(TX-line)s for the branches of the conventional Wilkinson's power divider, we use composite right- and left-handed(CRLH) phase-shift lines and can reduce the physical length. With the non-linear dispersion of the meta-meterial, each branch in the proposed divider is designed to have $+90^{\circ}$ and $-90^{\circ}$ at $f_1$ and $f_2$ respectively. To validate the proposed method, the performances of the circuit and full-wave simulation results are shown with the CRLH dispersion curve. The measurement results are compared with the simulation results. Also, the size reduction effect by the proposed scheme is addressed.

This paper presents new CRC-p codes for VHF band maritime wireless communication system based on performance analysis of various CRC codes. For this purpose, we firstly describe the method of determination of undetected error probability and minimum Hamming distance according to variation of CRC codeword length. By using the fact that the dual code of cyclic Hamming code and primitive BCH code become maximum length codes, we present an algorithm for computation of undetected error probability and minimum Hamming distance where the concept of simple hardware that is consisted of linear feedback shift register is utilized to compute the weight distribution of CRC codes. We also present construction of transmit data frame of VHF band maritime wireless communication system and specification of major communication parameters. Finally, new optimal CRC-p codes are presented based on the simulation results of undetected error probability and minimum Hamming distance using the various generator polynomials of CRC codes, and their performances are evaluated with simulation results of bit error rate based on the Rician maritime channel model and ${\pi}$/4-DQPSK modulator.
