A Study on the Characteristics of High Pressure Regulator for Vehicle CNG (자동차 CNG용 고압 레귤레이터의 특성해석에 관한 연구)

  • To increase the driving distance of a natural gas vehicle, the high pressure of fuel charge is necessary and the development of the device reducing the pressure to suitable pressure for fuel of high pressure. In this study, Pressure characteristics at the pressure regulator, which is very important for gas supply systems for vehicles, are investigated. Numerical simulations are carried out to quantify pressures at regulators for several flow rates and to investigate pressure drop, hysteresis losses at some parts in the pressure regulator. Moreover, this paper presents a new kind of hydraulic simulation which is composed of CNG regulator. Lastly, experiments are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the prosed mathematical simulation with various regulator components as in real working condition.

Research of Natural Gas/Diesel Dual Fuel Vehicle (CRDI시스템을 갖는 천연가스/디젤 혼소차량의 개발에 대한 연구)

  • This research is about the exhaust gas and driving performance test which are for CNG-Diesel dual fuel engine. The CNG-Diesel dual fuel engine converted from 2500cc diesel has two steps of injection systems; small amount of diesel is injected to mixture CNG in cylinder to ignite before CNG is injected into each intake manifold to form mixture. The amounts of output power and emission in duel fuel consumption were measured by engine dynamometer and exhaust gas analyzer. Over 90% of diesel consumption reduction, similar driving performance to current diesel engine and reduced emission on $CO_2$ and PM, respectively, were indicated through the measurements. The two steps of system were applied to vehicle to investigate exhaust gas characteristics and driving performance via NEDC mode and real driving test. Additional oxidation catalyst was applied to reduce emission on the test vehicle and the NEDC mode test showed the reduction of Co, $CO_2$, Pm and THC.

  • 수소는 청정에너지로서 미래에너지의 대안으로 여겨지고 있기 때문에 수소에너지 관련 기술은 미래 국가 경쟁력을 좌우할 것으로 예상되며 이러한 수소에너지의 핵심인 수소스테이션 관련 기술은 국가연료전지 시장을 비롯한 수소자동차 사업 전반에 커다란 영향을 미칠 것으로 예상되고 있다. 이에 따라 전 세계적으로 수소에너지를 차세대 에너지원으로 개발하기 위하여 전력을 다하고 있으며, 수소연료전지자동차 개발과 아울러 수소스테이션 개발에 대한 인프라 구축 및 실증연구가 본격적으로 이루어지고 있다. 국내에서도 가스공사를 비롯한 에너지 관련 기업에서 수소스테이션 건설이 추진되고 있으며, 본 연구에서도 수소인프라 구축의 일환으로 추진되고 있는 수소스테이션 개발 현황에 대하여 논의하고자 한다.

Adsorption and Storage of Natural Gas by Nanoporous Adsorbents (나노세공체 흡착제에 의한 천연가스의 흡착 및 저장)

  • In order to utilize natural gas (NG), one of the clean energy sources in next-generation, as a fuel for vehicles, it is important to store natural gas with high density. To store NG by adsorption (ANG) at room temperature and at relatively low pressure(35~40 atm) is safe and economical compared with compressed NG and liquefied NG. However, so far no adsorbent is reported to have adsorption capacity suitable for commercial applications. Nanoporous materials including metal-organic frameworks can be potential adsorbents for ANG. In this review, physicochemical properties of adsorbents necessary for high adsorption capacity are summarized. Wide surface area, large micropore volume, suitable pore size and high density are necessary for high energy density. Moreover, low adsorption-desorption energy, rapid adsorption-desorption kinetics and high delivery are needed. Recently, various efforts have been reported to utilize nanoporous materials in ANG, and it is expected to develop a nanoporous material suitable for ANG.

  • Many researches on natural gas engines, with lean mixtures are being conducted for the purpose of preservation of global environment. Lean combustion is one of the most promising method for increasing engine efficiency and reducing the emission from SI engines. Due to the possibility of partial burn and misfire, however, under lean burn operation, stable flame kernel formation and fast burn rate, by use of swirl or tumble flow, are needed to guarantee a successful subsequent combustion. Experimental data were obtained on a 4-stroke, natural gas fueled SI engine to investigate the effect of compression ratio, swirl and spark plug electrode rotation on efficiency and emission under lean burn condition. Experimental results have displayed that higher compression ratio, presence of swirl vane and favorable direction of electrode gap brougth about the improvements in engine efficiency and its operational stability.

  • The substitution of conventional fuel oil by alternative fuels is of immense interest due to liquid oil shortage and requirements of emission control standard. Among the alternative fuels, natural gas may be the most rational fuel, because of its widespread resource and clean est burning. Meanwhile, engine simulation is of great importance in engine development. Hence a zero-dimensional combustion model was developed for dual-fuel system. Natural gas was injected directly into the cylinder and small amount of distillate was used to provide the ignition kernel for natural gas burning. The intake air and exhaust gas flow was modeled by filling and emptying method. Although the single zone approach has an inherent limitation, the model showed promise as a predictive tool for engine performance. Its simulation was also made to see how the engine performance was influenced by the fuel injection timings and amount of each fuel.

Conversion and Aging Characteristics of Oxidation Catalyst for Natural Gas Vehicle with Lean-burn System (린번 천연가스자동차용 산화촉매의 정화 및 열화특성)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the aging and conversion characteristics of oxidation catalysts for a natural gas vehicle with lean-bum system. The conversion of $CH_4$ was observed over the various composition ratio of PMs(Precious metals) and washcoating methods. On the fresh catalysts, Pd affected on the activity of $CH_4$ at low temperature more than other PMs in Pd-only and Rh/Pd/Pt catalysts. The activity at low temperature increased as a mount of Pd increases. On the aged catalysts, the $CH_4$ conversion efficiency of Pd-only catalyst with mono-layer washcoat decreased more than that of the other catalysts of $CH_4$ conversion. It was observed that the thermal durability of Rh/Pd/Pt catalysts with double-layer washcoat was better than the single washcoat catalyst.

  • 메탄올 자동차의 도입은 공해책연에서나, 대체연료면에서 중요한 과제라는 인식하에서 일본우수 성은 벌써부터 그의 열현을 목표로 개조차에 의한 성능테스트 실시 등의 여러 가지 준비를 하여 왔는데, 최근에는 자동차 공해대책의 견지에서 디젤엔진을 탑재하여 사용중인 트럭 및 버스에 대 하여 경유대신으로 깨끗한 연료의 사용을 요망하는 소리가 높아지고 있다. 또 운수부문에서도 석유대체에너지의 도입이 요망되고 있어, 메탄올 자동차는 다른 대체에너지를 사용하는 것에 비 해서 기술적, 경제적으로 가장 실용성이 높고, 도입이 준비기간이 짧기 때문에 매우 유망시되고 있다. 자동차연료로서의 메탄올에는 몇가지 문제점이 있다고 지적되기도 하였으나 현재는 모두 기술적 대응이 이루어져 메탄올 자동차의 실용화를 저해하는 문제는 거의 없다고 하겠다. 뿐 만아니라 매탄올의 원료가 되는 천연가스는 세계적으로 대량, 광범하게 존재하고 있어 석유가 격면에서도 대량생산이 궤도에 오르게 되면 경유와 비슷하게 될 가능성이 있다. 따라서 메탄올 자동차는 금후 적극적으로 도입을 추진하여야 할 것이며, 도시버스, 시내집배 트럭 등에 사용되면 자동차공해대책, 에너지 대책의 측면에서 상당히 큰 효과가 기대될 수 있을 것이다. 이러한 메 탄올이 석유대체연료로서 안착될 때까지는 당연히 조성조치가 필요하며 전입을 방해하는 과제는 없어야 할 것이다.
