This study was intended to validate and develop the driving stress scale. In a preliminary investigation, literature studies on the stress and open questionnaire were administered and examined in four regions in Korea. As a result, 121 items driving stress questionnaire were developed. In the study, this driving stress questionnaire was examined to 450 drivers located seven regions in Korea. The factors analysis revealed 5 meaningful factors[(Progress Obstacle: PO), (Traffic Circumstance: TC), (Accident & Regulation: AR), (Regulation Observance: RO), (Time Pressure: TP)] with 38 items. When internal consistency for each 5 factor was calculated, all sub-scale revealed a satisfactory level of Cronbach's α. Also, correlations with Driving Behaviour Inventory-General Driver Stress(DBI-GEN) and risk driving behaviors(speed driving, drunken driving, offence accident, defence accident) supported consistently validity of the Driving Stress Scale(DSS). Finally the result were discussed and implications are suggested for future studies.
This study aims to develop the corporate philanthropy scale focusing on the guidelines of ISO26000 and to test its reliability and validity. For the purpose of this study, author conducted focus group interview, individually interview, consult and pilot test in order to clarify description and relevance of scale items. To test reliability and validation of scale, 94 staffs in charge of the corporate philanthropy work in the companies were surveyed as research subjects. The results of the explanatory factor analysis on scale found the six factor structure and 27 items. The construct validity and discriminant validity were confirmed through the confirmatory factor analysis. The reliability of the scale also remained at a high level. Based on these results, implications for corporate philanthropy was suggested.
Materialistic values can be a important variable to understand Koreans' psychological well-being and mental health. This study aimed to validate the Korean version of the Material Values Scale (K-MVS)(Richins & Dawson, 1992). In study 1, we performed confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) to ascertain the three factor model of the original MVS using 417 Korean undergraduate student data(sample 1). The CFA confirmed the three-factor model of the MVS. Yet, three items that yielded low factor loadings in this study as well as in other MVS validation studies were excluded from the final model. In study 2, content, construct, and concurrent validity of the K-MVS were examined with 650 undergraduate student data(Sample 2). We also tested measurement invariance across two groups(i.e., college student group of Sample 2 and employee group of Sample 3). The result revealed that the three-factor model of the K-MVS hold true across the two groups. Lastly test-retest reliability was calculated with 408 female college student data(Sample 4) that filled out K-MVS twice within 6 months. These findings suggest that the K-MVS is a reliable and valid measure for assessing materialistic values in Korea.
This study, the Grindler Body Attitude Sale developed by Grindler(1991) was adopted and validation to the Korean culture. 3-factors and 25 Items were constructed through item content analysis and exploratory factor analysis. and 3 factors named through the characteristic context are 'Awareness of the Body attitude', 'evaluation of the Body attitude', and 'management of the body attitude'. The result of confirmatory factor analysis showed that the fit of the 3 factor model was good. Korean version body attitude scale was positively relate to Body esteem, Concise Measure of Subjective Well-Being and Body Cathexis Scale. and negatively related Stress response scale. At the end, limitation and suggestions for the future research were discussed.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to develop the Korean Strength Scale and to examine its validity and reliability. Methods : The Korean Strength Scale is a self-report questionnaire that measures 25 valued strengths and is comprised of 124 items ; each item had a 0-5 rating on a 6-point scale. In order to test validity and reliability, data were collected from 355 adults. The measures included the Korean Strength Scale, HEXACO Personality Inventory (HEXACO-PI), Satisfaction with life scale (SWLS), Positive Affect and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), and Orientations to Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ). Results : The resulting exploratory factor analysis of the Korean Strength Scale suggested 4 factor structures. The Korean Strength Scale was shown to have acceptable psychometric properties, including acceptable internal-consistency reliabilities, factorial validity, and high convergent correlations. Conclusion : Although there is room on improvement for some facet scales, the Korean Strength Scale appears to be a useful tool for assessing an individual's signature strengths.
This study is a follow-up study of the Social Media Emotional Contagion(SECS) and it aims to validate the Social Media Emotional Contagion Scale(SECS) through CFA and criterion-related validity. The data was collected from 326 people in 20s. The criterion-related validity of SECS were confirmed with the Korean version of the Emotional Contagion Scale(K-ECS), the Basic Empathy Scale in Adult(BES-A), and the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale(SES). As a result, the K-ECS and sub-factor of Emotional Contagion of BES-A, which are the same as the construction of SECS, converged. Other scales were differentiated from SECS. However, sub-factor of SES of positive self-esteem, which are the same as the construction of SECS, converged. Also, sub-factor of SES of negative self-esteem, which are the same as the construction of SECS of negative Emotional Contagion, converged. Finally, the significance and limitations of this study and future studies were discussed.
The purpose of this study is to develop and validate a scale of vicarious trauma for sexual violence counselors. To this end, the concept of composition and preliminary questions of the vicarious trauma of sexual violence counselors were selected through the analysis of a content of individual interviews of sexual violence counselors and the precedent theory. Then, preliminary scale was developed after expert's evaluation of the validity of the contents. Next, as a result of a confirmatory factor analysis on the preliminary scale of 349 sexual violence counselors with experience in consulting sexual violence clients, it is confirmed that the conformity of five-factor structure was found to be favorable. As a result of convergent and discriminative validity analysis, it was confirmed that the developed scale is a reasonable tool for measuring vicarious trauma of sexual violence counselors by showing proper correlation with Secondary Traumatic Stress Scale, Counselor Burnout Inventory and Inventory of Countertransference Behavior. Furthermore, as a result of correlation analysis between professional identity and Belief in a Just World, it confirmed that it has predictive validity of the scale by indicating a high negative correlation. Furthermore, the relationship between the scale of vicarious trauma of sexual violence counselors and career background was analyzed. Finally, based on the results of this study, the significance and limitations of this study and the direction of future research were discussed.
The purpose of the current study is to to examine the psychometric properties of the Subjective Agingwell Scale (SAS). Three hundred and forty two elders completed the SAS and the scales assessing subjective well-being, optimism, perceived control and adhering to healthy behavior. The 11-item SAS that displays good internal reliability and good fit to the three-factor model consisting of cognitive satisfaction, positive affect, and spiritual fullness. Correlational analyses with measures of subjective agingwell, subjective well-being, and optimism provide evidence for construct validity. Moreover, the results from hierarchical regression analyses show criterion-related validity of the SAS. This scale could be used in the field to measure and promote subjective agingwell.
The purpose of this study was to develop the Post-bereavement Growth Inventory(PBGI) for the elderly and to evaluate its validity. The items for developing PBGI were compiled from a literature search, content validity review, and a preliminary survey. A main survey of 308 widowed persons(aged 60+) was conducted. The results were as follows. First, an exploratory factor analysis revealed six factors of the PBGI. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis supported a five-factor structure for the final 24 scale items of scale. Second, in terms of concurrent validity, the PGBI compared favorably with the "Personal Growth" scale from The Hogan Grief Reaction Checklist (HGRC: Hogan and Schimdt, 2001). Third, the results of contrast group validity tests demonstrated that the group scoring in the upper 30% on the scales of Psychological Well-being (PWB, Ryff and Keyes, 1995) and the Grief Reaction Inventory (GRI: Remondet and Hansson, 1987) showed a significantly higher degree of post-bereavement growth (PBG) than the group scoring in the lower 30%. Fourth, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ values for the five factors were between .649-.856 and .907 overall, indicating high internal consistency. Finally, education had the most significant influence on PBG. All results indicated the high validity of the PBGI. The findings from this study could provide the rationale for practical interventions from a growth-oriented perspective for widowed persons, as well as an objective assessment tool for practitioners in clinical areas.
The Critical Consciousness Scale (CCS) is a scale developed by Diemer and colleagues (2017) that can measure the capacity of the oppressed or marginalized people to critically analyze their social and political conditions, support societal equality, and take action to change the perceived inequities. In this study, we validated the CCS for Korea by adapting and localizing the scale and validating it among university students. Content validity was verified by having five individuals with master's and doctoral degrees in psychology evaluate the suitability of the translated items. Afterwards, reliability and validity were verified through a survey of 314 university students nationwide using the CCS, along with the opportunity inequality recognition scale, recognition of the need for environmental change scale, social participation scale, and belief in a just world scale. To verify the scale's validity, exploratory factor analysis was conducted, confirming three subfactors. Then, a confirmatory factor analysis was carried out, where 14 items out of the original 22 were retained. The construct validity and reliability of these 14 items were found to be satisfactory. Additionally, in the correlation analysis between the CCS and similar scales, a significant clear relationship was found. The CCS showed a positive correlation with scales such as opportunity inequality recognition, need for environmental change recognition, and social participation, and a negative correlation with the belief in a just world scale. Based on these results, the CCS can be considered valid and reliable. Finally, the limitations and significance of this study were discussed.
