  • We have studied the dispersion properties of a 40 channel x 10 Gbit/s wavelength division multiplexer(WDM) transmission link using standard single mode fiber with all EDFA amplification over 30 x 100 km spans. The dispersion map of the link was investigated by adding fiber sections with positive or negative dispersion at the transmitter, within each amplifier span, and at the receiver. Optimum combinations of these dispersive fiber lengths were attained to significantly enhance the overall transmission performance.

  • A linear power amplifier is particularly emphasized on the CDMA system using a linear modulation scheme, because IMD which cause adjacent channel interference and co channel Interference is mostly generated in a nonlinear power amplifier. In this paper, a new type of linearization technique proposed. It is presented that balanced MESFET predistortion linearizer added. Experimental result are present for Korea PCS frequency band. The implemented linearizer is applied to a 30dBm class. A power amplifier for simulation performance. Two-tone signals at 1850 MHz and 1851.23 MHz are injected into the main power amplifier. The main power amplifier with a 12.1dB gain and a P1dB of 30 dBm(two-tone) was utlized. The reduction of IMD is around 22dB.

  • This papers describes a nonlinear transfer function modelling of designed GaAs FET power amplifier by measured and simulated values of designed PA amplifier for multi­carrier transmission system, With the results of PA nonlinearity characteristic, we can estimates AM­AM and AM­PM of designed PA. According to the estimated nonlinear characteristics, we can analysis the ACPR of PA for spectral regrowth, the error vector measurement(EVM) of constallation signals and bit error rate of QPSK and 64­QAM. The suggested nonlinear modelling results are used to get an accurate estimate of digital characteristics between PA amplifier and wireless multi­carrier transmission system using OFDM.

  • Digital communication systems are required to cause the minimum interference to adjacent channels, they must therefore employ the linear power amplifiers. In respect to linear power amplifiers, there are many linearization techniques. Feedforward power amplifier represent very wide bandwidth and high linearization capability. In the feedforward systems, overall efficiency is reduced due to the loss of delay line. In this paper, delay filter instead of transmission delay line adapted to get more high efficiency. Experimental results showed that ACLR (Adjacent Channel Leakage Ratio) has improved 17.43(dB), which is added 3.44(dB) by using the delay filter.

  • In this paper, a double-input single-output architecture of a LNA(Low Noise Amplifier) is presented to enable to be devised for light weight and small-sized OTM(On-The-Move) satellite communication system suitable to be mounted on vehicles. In spite of advantages of the double-input single-output architecture of a LNA such as reduction of the number of physical channels, it results in time-varying phase error between a fundamental mode path and a high-order mode path. This paper shows that the error can be corrected by adding pilot signals to the LNA and using signal processing, and also gives the measurement data to use the method mentioned above.

  • In land mobile communication, very extensive studies on pilot symbol assisted modulation (PSAM) have been made on fading compensation. This paper analyzes the effect of power amplifier nonlinearity on PSA-QAM with maximal ratio combining space diversity. In practical PSAM, information on fading is obtained through interpolation of the pilot symbols. We employed the interpolation filter which could minimize the average power of error and analyzed effects on the system performance of the number of filter taps, period of the pilot symbol frame, and the Doppler frequency. Nonlinear power amplifiers of class AB, B, and C were incorporated in the system models and their AM/AM and AM/PM characteristics were taken into account in the performance analysis. We showed the performance variations according to the types of the nonlinear power amplifiers in the AWGN and Rayleigh fading channels using nonlinear compensation technique, Cartesian Feedback Loop (CFB).

Fabrication of an Optical Fiber Amplifier Using Long-period Fiber Gratings Formed by Periodically Arrayed Metal Wire (금속선의 주기적 배열로 유도된 장주기 격자를 이용한 이득 평탄화된 광섬유 증폭기 제작)

  • In this study, we have fabricated a gain flattened erbium-doped optical fiber amplifier. Gain flattening filters were realized by the strain-induced long period fiber gratings, which are made of periodically arrayed metal wires. Using the filter of $550{\mu}m$ period, spontaneous emission amplified at C-band wavelength by a 980nm pumping laser was flattened within 1dB of gain ripple. The performance of the simultaneous multi channel amplification was measured using a fabry-perot laser diode. Amplification ratio was above 20dB. This amplifier can be applied to the long distance transmission system based on a wavelength division multiplexing for boosting an attenuated signal.

  • In this paper the system performance degradation resulting from nonlinear transmitter power amplifier which is essential to increase the efficiency is analyzed in a forward link CDMA system. The power amplifier is modeled by power series model which includes only odd-order terms. The effects of power amplifier's nonlinearity such as intersymbol interference, phase distortion on the RF system performance were visualized by examining the distorted time domain waveforms, signal vector constellation. And through the investigation of the power spectrum density of the transmitted signal, spectral regrowth or sideband regrowth which is result from amplitude distortion can be seen. All these characteristics result in BER performance degradation due to other user interferences and intersymbol interference. The analysis technique described here applies not only to power amplifier but also to any other nonlinear components such as mixers and switches. Also the effects of adjacent channel interference and supurious emission can be analysed between different systems.
