수소연료전지자동차에 대한 안전기준 고찰 (Study of KMVSS for Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle)

  • In the ongoing debates over the need to identify new sources of energy and to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases. Hydrogen has emerged as one of the most promising alternatives due to its emissions from the vehicle being virtually zero. The governments have identified the development of regulations and standards as one of the key requirements for commercialization of hydrogen-fueled vehicles. Regulations and standards will helpful in overcoming technological barriers to commercialization. Developments of a technique for safety assessment of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle(HFCV) includes four tasks, research for regulation system and policy, hydrogen safety, vehicle operation safety and protection against high-voltage. The objective is to establish a technique for safety assessment and amend safety standards for HFCV and consequently reflect research results to vehicle management policy. We devised safety standards and evaluation techniques with regard to high-pressure gas and high voltage of hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. Korean Motor Vehicle Safety Standards(KMVSS) for HFCV was amended to June 10, 2014. including the results of the safety assessment technology for high-voltage and hydrogen characteristics.

성인 머리모형 임팩터의 FE 모델 개발 (Development and Validation of FE Adult Headform Impactor for Pedestrian Protection)

  • Head injury is one of the most common cause of deaths in car-to-pedestrian collisions. To reduce the severity of such injuries, many international safety committees have performed headform impact test for pedestrian protection. In this paper, an adult headform impactor model is developed based on the finite element (FE) method and validated through the numerical simulation. The skin material of headform impactor is known as polyvinyl chloride skin (PVC) and its material was assumed as viscoelastic. The viscoelastic parameters of headform skin are identified by a series of trial and error methods. The new developed FE adult headform impactor is verified by the drop test and FE JARI adult headform impactor provided by Madymo program.

  • GaN based photoelectrode has shown good potential owing to its better chemical stability and tunable bandgap with materials such as InN and AlN. Tunable bandgap allows GaN to make the maximum utilization of solar spectrum, which could improve photoelectrode performance. However, the problems about low photoelectrode performance and photo-corrosion still remain. In this study, we attempt to investigate the photoelectrochemical (PEC) properties of phosphor application to InGaN photoelectrode. Experimental result shows YAG:Ce3+ and beta-SiALON phosphor result in the highest photoelectrode performance of InGaN.

SUV & 트럭 차종의 USNCAP 통계분석, Part 1: 정면충돌 (Statistical Review for USNCAP on SUV & Pick-up, Part 1: Frontal Crash Test)

  • This paper statistically reviewed for the USNCAP frontal crash test results carried out by NHTSA. Vehicle samples were selected on total 20 vehicles which were included on 15 vehicles for MPV&SUV and 5 Pickup. The results was summarized as followings. The performance for the driver was better than the passenger's in the average sense. There exist distinctions between the driver and the passenger on the USNCAP front test procedure, for example dummy size, seating position and airbag style. Therefore these differences originated in the statistical results. Main effect was Neck injury for crash performance on both dummies on the average value. Root cause of neck injury was different for each dummy, ie, the driver caused from Nte & Ntf, but the passenger did absolutely Nte mode. Reliability evaluated from the standard deviation was highly dependent upon chest injury on the driver and neck injury on the passenger. Restraint system was also summarized.

뒷좌석 승객 보호를 위한 안전띠의 기하학적 특성에 대한 연구 (A study of rear seat belts geometric characteristics for rear seated occupants protections)

  • The protection of frontal seat passengers in both driver and front seated occupant has been more focused from the auto industries as well as regulatory bodies more than 40 years. Recently, their interests have been extended to rear seat occupants especially children and female occupants. However, the current available safety devices for the rear seat occupants are seat belt only. According to the previous researchers, the injury level of the rear seat passengers tend to be higher than the injury level of the frontal seat passengers. In this study, the optimal location of seat belts anchorages to enhance rear passengers crashworthiness are studied. FEM models are designed in accordance with regulation of KMVSS102, UN R44, UN R16, and UN R14. and three point belts are fitted on the HybridIII 5th percentile dummy and HybridIII 50th percentile dummy. The combined injury value used HIC15, Nij, Chest deflection, Femur force are used to evaluate rear seat belt anchorage optimal locations.

자전거 대상 자동비상제동장치의 성능평가 시나리오 개발 (Safety Assessment Scenarios for Cyclist AEB)

  • This paper presents safety assessment scenarios for cyclist autonomous emergency braking(AEB) system. To assess the safety performance of AEB in real traffic situation with limited number of scenarios, scenario should reflect the characteristics of real traffic collision cases. For this, statistic data of real traffic car-to-cyclist collision in Korea are analyzed. Many types of accidents are listed and categorized based on the movement of vehicle and cycle just before the collision. Then, the characteristics, main issues and limitations of each scenarios are discussed. Not only the test scenario itself but also the cost and time for the test are very important issues for the test scenarios to actually repeat the test for various systems. Also, the performance of AEB can be effected by the algorithm of AEB and the technical limitation of the sensors and hardwares. Therefore, required number of tests, possibility of dummy destruction and other technical issues are discussed for each scenarios. Based on these information, typical scenarios are selected. Also, using this information, vehicle speed range, cyclist speed and collision point are established. Proposed scenarios are verified and modified based on the vehicle test results. vehicle test was evaluated 5 times for each scenarios. Based on this results, final test scenarios are modified and proposed.

정밀 지도에 기반한 자율 주행 시스템 개발 (A Development of the Autonomous Driving System based on a Precise Digital Map)

  • An autonomous driving system based on a precise digital map is developed. The system is implemented to the Hyundai's Tucsan fuel cell car, which has a camera, smart cruise control (SCC) and Blind spot detection (BSD) radars, 4-Layer LiDARs, and a standard GPS module. The precise digital map has various information such as lanes, speed bumps, crosswalks and land marks, etc. They can be distinguished as lane-level. The system fuses sensed data around the vehicle for localization and estimates the vehicle's location in the precise map. Objects around the vehicle are detected by the sensor fusion system. Collision threat assessment is performed by detecting dangerous vehicles on the precise map. When an obstacle is on the driving path, the system estimates time to collision and slow down the speed. The vehicle has driven autonomously in the Hyundai-Kia Namyang Research Center.

타이어-노면 마찰계수 추정을 이용한 AEBS 알고리즘 (AEBS Algorithm with Tire-Road Friction Coefficient Estimation)

  • This paper describes an algorithm for Advanced Emergency Braking(AEB) with tire-road friction coefficient estimation. The AEB is a system to avoid a collision or mitigate a collision impact by decelerating the car automatically when forward collision is imminent. Typical AEB system is operated by Time-to-collision(TTC), which considers only relative velocity and clearance from control vehicle to preceding vehicle. AEB operation by TTC has a limit that tire-road friction coefficient is not considered. In this paper, Tire-road friction coefficient is also considered to achieve more safe operation of AEB. Interacting Multiple Model method(IMM) is used for Tire-road friction coefficient estimation. The AEB algorithm consists of friction coefficient estimator and upper level controller and lower level controller. The numerical simulation has been conducted to demonstrate the control performance of the proposed AEB algorithm. The simulation study has been conducted with a closed-loop driver-controller-vehicle system using using MATLAB-Simulink software and CarSim Vehicle model.

전(全)방향 충돌 회피를 위한 액츄에이터 최적 분배 알고리즘 (Unified Control of Independent Braking and Steering Using Optimal Control Allocation Methods for Collision Avoidance)

  • This paper presents a unified control algorithm of independent braking and steering for collision avoidance. The desired motion of the vehicle in the yaw plane is determined using the probabilistic risk assessment method based on target state estimation. For the purpose of coordinating the independent braking and steering, a non-linear vehicle model has been developed, which describes the vehicle dynamics in the yaw plane in both linear and extended non-linear ranges of handling. A control allocation algorithm determines the control inputs that minimize the difference between the desired and actual vehicle motions, while satisfying all actuator constraints. The performance of the proposed control algorithm has been investigated via computer simulations conducted using the vehicle dynamics software CARSIM and Matlab/Simulink.

한국시장에서의 카시트 장착성 평가 (CRS installation performance in Korean Market)

  • Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause (70%) of children injury and fatality. 98% of Children under the age of 9 who came to emergency room with a traffic accident are not seated in CRS. Reduction in mortality when using CRS (NHTSA study), 71% for infants of 1-2 years old, 54% for 3-6 years old and 7-12 years old. It is very important and essential to use CRS for child passenger safety. But in Korean market, the CRS fitment rate is relatively low (20~40%). For European market, at the start of 2013, Euro NCAP started to check how easy it is to install the most common seats. And US market, NHTSA is planning a new consumer information program of CRS fitment for near future. This study examines CRS installation performance of 3 vehicles which are produced by GM Korea and 21 CRS which are based on sales volume in Korean market. Purpose of this study is to identify both vehicle and CRS design that causes bad interaction for CRS installation.
