  • There is an increasing demand for efficient high power/weight auxiliary power supplies for use on high speed traction application. Many new conversion techniques have been proposed to reduce the voltage and current stress of switching components, and the switching losses in the traditional pulse width modulation(PWM) converter. Especially, the phase shift full bridge zero voltage switching PWM techniques are thought most desirable for many applications because this topology permits all switching devices to operate under zero voltage switching(ZVS) by using circuit parasitic components such as leakage inductance of high frequency transformer and power device junction capacitance. The proposed topology is found to have higher efficiency than conventional soft-switching converter. Also it is easily applicable to phase shift full bridge converter by applying an energy recovery snubber consisted of fast recovery diodes and capacitors.

  • In this paper, presented was the research work of finding practical application systems using IT that would be adopted by the next generation high speed train for the safety, convenience, and comfort of the passengers and crew members. Study on the applications using smart sensors and IT brought up 26 feasible application cases. Among them 16 cases were related with IT applications and 10 cases smart sensor applications. After having public hearings and surveys to make the decision more objective and generally acceptable, 7 applications - such as information providing service using personal LCD monitor, alarm service, individual internet access service, automatic and remote air conditioning, wireless visual communication with an attendant, extraordinary sound detection, urgent situation in toilet monitoring - out of those 26 were chosen as the final applications.

  • Performed was a survey to find the level of interest on passenger services using IT and smart sensor technology in connection with High Speed Train development in Korea. The survey respondents were sampled from the KTX passengers, KTX crews, Korail employees, IT or sensor experts, and rolling stock experts. The results of the survey were categorized as importance, urgency/necessity, importance vs urgency/necessity, improvement measure, preferable activities based on the trip length, and inconveniencies. By analyzing the results, service items that can be implemented to the High Speed Train were recognized. The results showed that a passenger tends to expect to have his/her comfort and convenience, an attendant safety and serviceability, a Korail employee information provision and serviceability, an IT/sensor expert technological implementation done, and a rolling stock expert implementation done in practical level.

기술이전을 연계한 한국형 차세대 고속전철의 중국진출 방안 연구 (A Strategy on Penetration of the Korean High-Speed Train into Chinese Market in Trade off the Technology Transfer)

  • Studied was a strategic plan for the Korean High-Speed Train system to penetrate the Chinese railway market in exchange of the technology of KHST. Firstly, taken was a glance at Chinese Government plans to extend total length of his railway lines and to construct the $Beijing\~Shanghai$ high-speed railway line. Then, disparity of railway technology in Korea and China was reviewed. From the review, SWOT Analysis were carried out to penetrate the foreign markets. Countermeasures to cope with SWOT were also considered. Strategical governmental supports and the establishment of the special organization to be charge of penetration of KHST into foreign markets were proposed. Finally, also proposed was the transfer of KHST technology to Chinese counterparts in exchange of tangible benefits for Korean side, The benefits may include (1) adoption of KHST as the type of rolling stock for the $Beijing\~Shanghai$ line, (2) guarantee of participation in the project and royalty for the KHST technology used for the future high-speed railway line construction. (3) prior written approval and partnership when making its way to third country, and (4) participation of Korean construction companies in Chinese railway construction project. etc. Adoption of KHST in China indeed gives chance to integrate the high-speed railway network after reunification of Korean peninsular, and enhance the economic ties between two countries.

차세대 분산형 고속열차의 후미진동 저감에 관한 연구 (A Study on Tail Vibration Reduction for the Next Generation High Speed EMU)

  • 본 연구는 차세대 분산형 고속전철 시제차량(HEMU-430X)의 후미진동저감에 관한것이다. VAMPIRE 해석을 통한 주행거동 관찰에서 HEMU-430X는 전두부 유선형 형상유지를 위하여 설치된 한방향 요댐퍼 때문에 후미차량에서 횡방향 진동이 예상되었으며, 430km/h에서 기준치를 초과하는 경우가 있었다. 이 후미진동을 감소시키기 위하여 차륜답면 형상변경, 횡댐퍼 댐핑계수조정, 요댐퍼 계수조정 등 다양한 방법을 시도하였으나 후미진동이 없어지지 않았다. 최종적으로 요댐퍼를 양방향으로 바꾸었을 때 횡방향 진동이 사라졌다. 실제 시운전에서는 150km/h로 주행하였을 때 횡방향 후미진동이 나타났으며, 요댐퍼를 양방향으로 바꾸어 300km/h 주행 시에도 후미진동이 나타나지 않았다. 추후 430km/h까지 최고속도시험을 수행할 예정인데 높은 속도에서 후미진동이 다시 발생한다면 본 연구에서 제시한 차륜답면 형상변화, 횡댐퍼 계수 조정 등의 방법을 이용해서 진동을 저감시킬 수 있을 것이다.

  • Electromagnetic Interference(EMI) in electric railway operation has become increasingly important. The components within very high power electronic, and the circuits for treating low-level signals, comprise complex system that must coexist and be highly reliable. To study it, It were included how much the HEMU-400X generates EMI and it has an effect on the power conversion units which resulted from Power Line Disturbance (PLD) phenomenon by contact loss during its running. In this study, the dynamic characteristic of a contact wire and pantograph suppling electrical power to high-speed trains are investigated. The analysis of the loss of contact based on Power Simulator program software is performed to develop power line disturbance model suitable for high speed operation. It is confirmed that a contact wire and pantograph model are necessary for studying the dynamic behavior of the pantograph system.

  • Up until now, power centralized trains have been produced due to the maintenance convenience and comfortableness, but there are some problems, such as limitation of viscosity and maintenance difficulty of railroad due to recently increasing axle mass. In order to improve the problems, power decentralized trains have been developed to improve traction power. In the case of using electrical braking system, it is possible to improve braking friction power. Induction motors have been developed for power decentralized high speed train because of less structural defection, and low maintenance and production cost. However, induction motors have limitations, such as assuring enough power capacity and efficiency with reduced size. PMSM (Permanent magnet synchronous motor) have been newly developed to improve shortcomings of induction motors. The PMSM can be produced small and light weighted. Also if the PMSM and induction motors have the same size and power capacity, the PMSM have better power efficiency. In this pater, the prototype and modified type of PMSM for "High-speed Electric Multiple Unit-400km/h eXperimmen" will be introduced.

  • Since its invention at TWI in 1991, Friction Stir Welding (FSW) has become a major joining process in the aerospace, railway and ship building industries especially in the fabrication of aluminium alloys. In an attempt to optimize the friction stir welding process of Al alloys for extrusion Aluminium carbody of HEMU-400X (Extrusion Aluminum 6xxx series), effects of joining parameters such as tool rotating speed, plunging depth and dwelling time on the weld joints properties were evaluated. Experimental tests were carried out for butt joined Al plates. A wide range of joining conditions could be applied to join Al alloys for Extrusion Aluminum 6xxx series without defects in the weld zone except for certain welding conditions with an insufficient heat input. The microstructures of welds have dynamic-recrystallized grain similar to stir zone in FSW weld. For sound joints without defects, at the rotation speed of 700 rpm with different welding speeds, the tensile strengths of the Stir Zone(SZ) were almost the same, 80% of those of the base metal.   • Systems engineering technology development program for Korea next-generation high-speed railway(KNHR) system in progress is a national large-scale system development program that is not only a large-size and complex but also multi-disciplinary in nature. Using the RDD-IOO, a systems engineering tool, the KNHR program can establish requirements traceability and development process management in the course of development. This paper presents the results from a computer-aided systems engineering application to KNHR system technology development project over the three years of activities. The traceability among the system design database in the vertical direction of SE process, as the results of the first year and the second year research was accomplished. The database in both the requirement management domain and the project management domain was developed and set up the traceability between them in the horizontal direction of the SE process in the V model as the results of the third year research. Therefore, KNHR design database was built to support the life-cycle management of the system as well as to reuse the knowledge in future programs. In the following development phase, this database will be utilized to accomplish the test and integration activities providing a baseline database. The outcome of the study contributes to the establishment of the model-based systems engineering approach as a best practice in the accumulation and advancement of systems engineering technology for railway system development.
