The relationships between the weather conditions and the occurrence of rice bacterial grain rot caused by Burkholderia glumae during the rice heading period, were examined by analying the data accumulated from 1992 through 2000 and by conducting greenhouse and field experiment to develop a model far forecasting the disease. The disease severely occurred in 1994, 1995, 1998, and 2000, when it was high in temperature and rainfall during the heading period of middle-late rice varieties. While it occurred weakly in 1993 was high in rainfall and low temperature and it was reversely in 1997. When treated under wetting condition (above the 24-hour)after inoculation at heading period, the infection rate increased as the inculum concentration increased, it was 86.1% at 10$^{8}$ cfu/ml. When under drying condition, the disease of 12.5% occurred only at $^{8}$ cfu/ml. On the other hand, 1,000 grain weight and the percentage of ripened grains remarkably decreased as the infection rate increased.
This study was conducted to find out the stalk curing methods that can reduce photobleaching, and shorten the curing period in burley to bacco stalk curing. The results obtained summarized as follows. In the ventilation window-plot, the temperature within the curing house was high and the curing period was shortened, too. The rate of photobleached leaves of whole plant stalk curing-plot was higher than those of any other plots. In the ventilation window-plot, the labor of operating the curing house was saved and the yield and visual quality of cured leaves were high, too. For reducing the photobleaching of leaves, following procedures are desirable; to prevent the lower leaves from drying up and overripening at maturing stage, cut the stalk after first or second priming, shorten the curing period as possible when the 80% of leaf bodies changed brown.
Since the inhibition of floral induction was considered to be an important subject to get high yield of Angelica gigas, the effects of low temperature, daylengh and shading were investigated in this study. The yield of A. gigas root grown by inhibition of floral induction was compared with the yield obtained by traditional cultivation method. When the seedings were exposed to the natural low air temperature condition until late of November, the plants which had 6 to 8 leaves showed vernalizing effect, and when the low temperature treatment was prolonged until mid of January, 4 to 5 leaf plants showed vernalizing effect. But 2 to 3 leaf plants did not show vernalizing effect regardless of the length of chilling treatment. The effectiveness of exposure to low temperature was markedly dependent upon the age of plants. In the artificial low temperature treatment the range of temperature varied with plant age. Vernalizing effect at 1,5 and 9$^{\circ}C$ of temperature did not show 3,5,6 leaf plants, respectively. The bolting percent in 8 leaf plant at 1,5 and 9$^{\circ}C$ for 8 weeks decreased by 80,45 and 5%, respectively. As daylength became longer, the bolting percent of A. gigas was increased. plants which were grown in the full sunlight showed the highest value in bolting percent, and the bolting percent was not decreased significantly with changing from full sunlight to 50% shading. When A. gigas were grown by the inhibition of floral induction, dry root weight per l0a showed the greatest value in 3 year old plant which 3.6 and 2.4 times higher than that of 1 and 2 year old plant, respectively. The yield of root was increased by 73.7% in 2 year old plant and 159.6% in 3 year old plant compared with the yield obtained by traditional cultivation method.
Two-year-old seedlings of Ilex rotunda were grown under control (full sunlight) and three different shading condition. Those conditions were full sunlight (PPFD 1600${\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$), 30% (PPFD 400${\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$), 50% (PPFD 250${\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$) and 70% treatment (PPFD 100${\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$). Total chlorophyll contents were inverse proportion to light intensity. Seedlings under full sunlight showed the highest photosynthetic activity such as photosynthetic rate, intercellular $CO_2$ concentration and water use efficiency. Photosynthetic activity trend was increased at the higher light intensity than the lower treatment over PPFD 500${\mu}mol\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$. Especially, seedlings under 70% treatment showed the worst photosynthetic activity at high light intensity. That result was regular for adapted plant in low intensity environment. Leaf area was also inverse proportion to light intensity, while dry weight per leaf area was shown the opposite trend.

The aim of this study was to confirm that effects of supplemental LED illumination on a strawberry yield and fruit quality when strawberry grown on a bottom bed to be deficient ambient light due to shading of a upper bed during cultivation by a two-bed bench system. A strawberry was cultivated as a drip irrigation system in the two-bed bench system filled with a strawberry exclusive media from October 2015 to January 2016. The upper and the bottom bed without LED illumination for growth of a strawberry were using as a control. For LED light treatments, from 10 am to 4 pm, we illuminated LEDs as $100{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ of light intensity by using blue, red, and mixing LED (blue plus red) on the strawberry plants of the bottom bed. In the yield of strawberry fruit, the strawberry grown on the bottom bed treated with the blue LED significantly increased compared with that of the bottom bed part control, and increased to by near 90% of the strawberry output of the upper bed part control. The soluble sugar content of strawberry fruit grown on the upper bed part control and on the bottom bed illuminated with blue or mixed LED was higher than that of red LED and the control of the bottom bed. The content of anthocyanin was the highest increased in the strawberry grown on the upper bed part control that received a lot of ambient light, however when comparing only the bottom bed, strawberry fruits grown on all LED treatments were higher than that of the control. Therefore, we considered that using of the blue LED light on the bottom bed of two-bed bench system during strawberry cultivation is advantageous for the increase of yield and improvement of fruit quality.
The present study was investigated in the Chittagong hill forest of Bangladesh to assess the feasibility of ginger cultivation under multipurpose forest and fruit tree species. There were three treatments such as i) ginger grown under open field condition, ie. full sunlight (T1), ii) ginger grown under Gamar tree (spacing of $90{\times}90cm$ (T2) and iii) ginger grown under guava tree (spacing $180{\times}180cm$) tree (T3). The experiment was laid out in randomized block design (RBD) and each treatment was replicated three times. From data it was observed that some morphological parameters of ginger such as plant height, number of leaves per plant, leaf length and leaf breadth were higher in the treatments T2 and T3 as compared to the treatment T1. A positive and linear relationship was observed between the weight of rhizome and yield of ginger which caused the highest yield of ginger ($23.63Mg\;ha^{-1}$) under guava tree species at partial shaded condition in the T3 treatment ($180{\times}180cm$), whereas the lowest yield ($15.64Mg\;ha^{-1}$) was recorded in the T2 treatment when ginger was cultivated under Gamar tree species at closer spacing ($90{\times}90cm$). Therefore, it was revealed that partial shaded condition favoured the optimum growth and yield of ginger, whereas the dense shade from intensively planted tree species badly affected the dry matter production and yield of ginger.

This study was carried out to investigated the effects of soil type and light condition on seedling quality of rare and endemic plants Orostachys iwarenge and Orostachys iwarenge for. magnus. The best seedling quality of O. iwarenge and O. iwarenge for. magnus seedling were shown in Klasmann soil at non-shading or LED (Red+Blue) condition, 50% shading or LED (Red+Blue) condition, respectively. Survival of O. iwarenge seedling was not influenced by the period of experiment but survival of O. iwarenge for. magnus seedling in sandy soil conditions decreased significantly. Results of correlation analysis of seedling quality and survival rate, indicated that O. iwarenge showed a correlation of 0.8 or more at plant height, leaf length and fresh weight. O. iwarenge for. magnus showed a correlation of 0.8 or more at plant height, leaf width and leaf length. Especially, seedling survival of O. iwarenge and O. iwarenge for. magnus showed a correlation of 0.8 or more at first seedling survival and second seedling survival. It was important to manage the early seedling stages of O. iwarenge and O. iwarenge for. magnus. Therefore, seedlings with plant height (over 2.5~4 cm) and root length (over 3~5 cm) were grown vigorously at 35 days after the seedling was transplanted in mid-April in Klasmann soil of 72 plug cell tray at LED (Red+Blue) conditions.
The reasonable level of nitrogen fertilizer of Gyokuro tea which is producted fresh leaves plucked from shade tea plants is a key factor to increase crop yield and quality. Nitrogen were applied at the level to 60, 80, 100 and $120kg\;10a^{-1}$. Analytical results of yield and quality of Gyokuro tea are summarized as follows : The soil fertility of experimental field was higher in organic matter($59.8g\;kg^{-1}$) and available phosphate($1,285mg\;kg^{-1}$), but lower in pH(4.79) compared to the common field. As the amount of nitrogen fertilizer application was increased to $80kg\;10a^{-1}$, the yield of tea leaves, the content of total nitrogen, total amino acid, caffeine and chlorophyll were increased. However, the yield of tea leaves was not increased above $100kg\;10a^{-1}$ and the increased level of nitrogen fertilizer did not show any different in the content of tannin and vitamin C. When the amount of nitrogen fertilizer application was raised, the content of thiamine and arginine increased, but the content of aspartic acid, serine and glutamic acid decreased. The content of fatty acid was produced $2.850{\sim}3.012mg\;100g^{-1}$ Especially, the content of oleic acid, linoleic acid and linolenic acid was higher at the level of $80kg\;10a^{-1}$ application than other treatments. As nitrogen was applied at $80kg\;10a^{-1}$, sensory score was 0.2~4.6 point higher than other treatments. Consequently, $80kg\;10a^{-1}$ is considered to be the best level of nitrogen fertilizer both quality and crop yield.

This study was carried out to analyze the effect of changes in the light environment caused by the daylight disturbance on the productivity and quality of the standard cut flower rose cultivar 'Monet'. It was artificially shaded to obstruct the sunlight and the productivity and growing characteristics of roses according to the time of daylight disturbance were investigated. The number of cut flowers per unit area (3.3m2) of the cut flower rose 'Monet' was 40 stems in the control, while in the 4-hour, 8-hour, and 12-hour treatments, it was 32, 29, and 25, respectively. As the daylight disturbance time was increased, the number of cut flowers showed a tendency to decrease. In the case of cut flower characteristics related to the quality of cut roses, all characteristics such as flower width, flower height, petal length, and petal width, decreased by 10 to 20% in the 12-hour treatment compared to the control. In addition, growth characteristics such as peduncle length, peduncle thickness, and cut flower height, which determine the marketability of cut roses, also tended to decrease as the daylight disturbance time increased. On the other hand, the number of days to flowering increased by 14.0% from 24.3 to 27.7. The overall growth characteristics were contracted and flowering was delayed as the time of daylight disturbance increased. In the results of this study, as the daylight disturbance time increased, flower size, cut flower length, and fresh weight was decreased. This is due to the decrease in the total photosynthetic amount as the daily average photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) was decreased, resulting in a decrease in the quality of roses. It is judged that it is because they do not receive enough carbohydrates necessary for growth and development.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of temperature and daylength on the bolting of Angelica gigas Nakai for decreasing the rate of bolting.Seedlings were transplanted on early December to the PVC pot(1 /1000) in the greenhouse controlled the temperature of 15, 20 and $25^{\circ}C$, and the daylength of 8, 12, and 16hrs. Growth of aerial parts, bolting rate and root characteristics of A. gigas were investigated. Seedlings of A. gigas untreated with low temperature were nomally emerged, bolted and flowered in maturing stage. In this results, it was assumed that A. gigas was low sensitive to low temperature. The early growth stage was good at $20^{\circ}C\;and\;25^{\circ}C$, but the late growth was effective at $15^{\circ}C\;and\;20^{\circ}C$. The bolting rate was the highest at $20^{\circ}C$ while the root weight was the lowest. Although the bolting rate was high at $15^{\circ}C$, the yield was increased by the delay of bolting and flowering stage. The bolting rate was increased in the longer daylength and showed more sensitive to the daylength condition than to the temperature. Thus, A. gigas cultivated in gully field with cool temperature or under the shading light could be reduced could the bolting rate.
