  • The pre-evaluation of the current-collection performance is an important issue for high-speed railway vehicles. In this paper, using flexible multibody dynamic analysis techniques, a simulation model of the dynamic interaction between the catenary and pantograph is developed. In the analysis model, the pantograph is modeled as a rigid body, and the catenary wire is developed using the absolute nodal coordinate formulation, which can analyze large deformable parts effectively. Moreover, for the representation of the dynamic interaction between these parts, their relative motions are constrained by a sliding joint. Using this analysis model, the contact force and loss of contact can be calculated for a given vehicle speed. The results are evaluated by EN 50318, which is the international standard with regard to analysis model validation. This analysis model may contribute to the evaluation of high-speed railway vehicles that are under development.

  • In the electric railway vehicles, securing stable current collection performance is an important factor which determines the quality of operation and the maximum speed. In order to predict such current collection performance, various analysis methods have been proposed for a long time. Also, investigations for improving the accuracy of the results and the efficiency of the analysis process have been performed. In this paper, a method for the efficiency improvement has been proposed. This method is based on the basic concept that the system equations of motion of a catenary numerical model include only interactive range with a pantograph. In this paper, an algorithm and generalized process for applying proposed method are introduced. Also, validity of the results and utility of the method was verified and studied.

  • In this paper, the inductive power collector using electromagnetic induction for vehicle such as the PRT(Personal Rapid Transit) system is suggested and son ideas for power collector design to improve tile power transfer performance are presented. And also, the analysis of the inductive power transfer system in conjunction with series resonant converter operating variable high frequency is shown. Of particular interest is the sensitivity of the complete system to variations in operational frequency and parameters. In inductive power transfer system electrical power is transferred from a primary winding in the form of a coil or tract to one or more isolated pick-up coils that my relative to the primary. The ability to transmit power without contact enables high reliability and easy maintenance that allows inductive power transfer system to be implemented in hostile environments. This technology has found application in many fields such as electric vehicles, PRT(Personal Rapid Transit) etc. But, low output power is generated due to a loosely coupled characteristic of the large air-gap. Therefore, we will show you various characteristic of inductive power transfer system as double layer construction of secondary winding, which was divided in half to increase both output current and output voltage, a model of power collector and parallel winding structure, a model of concentration/ decentralization winding and the effects of parameter and operational frequency variation.

  • Graphite sheet electro-deposited with lead was evaluated as a possible candidate for current collectors of lead acid batteries. Cyclic voltammetry was performed on the materials to evaluate the electrochemical properties. The graphite sheet electro-deposited with lead is electrochemically stable in the cathodic potential sweep. However, in the anodic potential sweep, the graphite sheet electro-deposited with lead is electrochemically unstable due to the oxygen evolution and the intercalation of sulfuric acid. Lead acid batteries were prepared by using a graphite sheet and a cast grid as current collectors for anode and performance test using those batteries was carried out. A lead acid battery with graphite sheets showed higher capacity and energy density than a conventional lead acid battery with cast grid.

  • The contact force characteristic between the pantograph and the catenary wire represents the current collection quality of trains; it should be precisely controlled under international standard. Recently, a noise reduction cover has been installed around the pantograph of high speed trains. However, little study on the contact force by the pantograph cover has been conducted. In this study, the impact on the current collection performance of the pantograph cover was analyzed by dynamic contact force measurement using a next generation high speed train (HEMU-430X). As a result, it was confirmed that the attachment of a pantograph cover could lower the mean contact force by approximately 50N at 300km/h. In addition, the pure difference of the average contact force by the presence of pantograph cover, except for the static pressure, was measured and found to be up to 110N at 300km/h. It was also found that the standard deviation of the contact force of 3~5N could be changed by use of a pantograph cover.

  • A wireless power transfer (WPT) system for an urban railroad is currently under development in S. Korea. This system supplies power to railroad cars using 60 kHz magnetic fields. The electromagnetic fields (EMFs) generated by the WPT system should satisfy established safety requirements for exposure of the human body to these fields. However, EMF measurements and the safety assessment methods for fields generated by the WPT system have not yet been established. As such, a measurement and safety assessment method for EMF generated by a WPT system for an urban railroad is proposed in this report. The EMF generated by this WPT system on a test railroad was measured and compared to the reference level set by the human safety standard for EMF exposure.

  • AC traction power supply system has adopted autotransformer (AT) feeding method. This system has an advantage as long feeding distance. However, the countermeasure for voltage drop should be considered, because load capacity grows larger and headway grows shorter in recent electric railway system. This paper proposes the improved system configuration to enhance voltage drop in ac railway system without additional power electronic device. That is to increase turn ratio between contact wire and rail of AT. By modifying turn ratio of AT at SSP or SP, collecting voltage on train will be enhanced.

This study is wearing phenomenon analysis of Cu-type wearing slider with high electric conductivity and resistance arc through experiment by running train. Author observed that wearing phenomenon of Cu-type wearing slider with normal and abnormal wearing characteristics and comparatively analysis precipitation, mileage and weight influences of exchanged Cutype and Fe-type wearing sliders. In this paper result showed that necessity for the application which is the Fe-type of wearing slider had superior wear resisting capacity etc., through tribology approach.
