Impact of Area Characteristics on the Health of Vulnerable Populations in Seoul (지역특성이 취약집단 건강에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • This research examines the effect of area level characteristics on individual health, particularly focusing on the vulnerable populations in Seoul. We consider adult individuals whose family income is under 1.5 million won, who are aged 65 and over, or who have neither spouse nor job but aged 40 and over as vulnerable populations. Using the 2005 Seoul Citizens' Health Interview Survey, we conducted multilevel analyses to simultaneously investigate the effect of area and individual level characteristics on health. Between-area variance of self-rated health status was greater for the elderly population than for all populations. Area material deprivation index and happiness index were associated with the self-rated health of economically disadvantaged populations. Vulnerable populations showed greater between-area variances in emotional health than the same for all populations. Area happiness index, material deprivation index, the proportion of households below poverty line and street safety showed statistically significant association with emotional health. The effect of area characteristics were particularly salient for the emotional health of elderly population and its between area variance was also notable.

Association Study Between the C3123A Polymorphism of the Angiotensin II Type 2 Receptor Gene in the Human X Chromosome and Essential Hypertension in Koreans (한국인에서 Angiotensin II Type 2 Receptor 유전자에 존재하는 C3123A 다형선과 본태성 고혈압과의 관련성에 관한 연구)

  • Renin-angiotensin system (RAS)은 혈압 조절에 중요한 역할을 수행하는 생리적 조절계로써, 이 system 을 구성하는 유전자들의 이상은 본태성 고혈압의 발병과 유의하게 관련된 것으로 알려졌다. RAS의 주요한 구성 성분인 angiotensin II는 2종류의 수용체인 angiotensin II type I receptor(AT₁R)와 angiotensin II type I receptor(AT₂R)에 의해 그 효과가 매개되기 때문에, 이 수용체를 암호하는 유전자는 본태성 고혈압의 유력한 후보 유전자라고 볼 수 있다. 현재가지의 연구에 의하면, AT₁R 유전자에 존재하는 유전적 변이와 본태성 고혈압과의 관련성에 관해서는 많은 보고들이 있었지만, AT₂R 유전자에 존재하는 유전적 변이 가 본태성 고혈압에 유의한 효과를 나타내는 지에 관해서는 이렇다할 연구 성과가 별로 없는 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 한국인 집단을 대상으로 하여, AT₂R 유전자에 존재하는 C3123A 다형성이 한국인 집단에서 본태성 고혈압과 유의한 관련성이 있는 지를 분석하였다. 이 유전자는 인간의 X 염색체에 존재하기 때문에, 여성인 경우에는 CC, CA및 AA로 이루어진 3유전자형이 존재하지만, 남성인 경우에는 C와 A로 이루어진 2종류의 대립 유전자로 구성되어 있기 때문에, 본 연구에서는 남성과 여성을 개별적으로 나누어서 분석하였다. 연구 결과, AT₂R 유전자에 존재하는 C3123A 다형성은 남녀 모두에서 본태성 고혈압과 유의한 관련성을 나타내지 않았다(P>0.05). 그렇지만, 이 다형성에 대한 대립 유전자 빈도를 서양인 집단과 비교했을 경우에는, 한국인을 대상으로 한 본 연구에서 A 대립 유전자 빈도가 0.33인 반면에 서양인 집단은 그 빈도가 0.43~0.48로 한국인 집단보다 높은 값을 나타내었다. 따라서, AT₂R 유전자에 존재하는 C3123A 다형성과 본태성 고혈압과의 관련성에 대해서는 한국인과 유전적 배경이 다른 서양인 집단을 대상으로 한 추시가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

The Effect of SBF Question on Conceptual Achievement and Eye Movement in Seasonal Constellation Learning of Elementary School Students (초등학생의 계절별 별자리 학습에서 SBF 질문이 개념성취와 시선이동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to study to the effect of presenting SBF questions on the level of conceptual achievement and eye movement of elementary students in seasonal constellation learning that requires systems thinking. In this study, the effectiveness of SBF questions was divided into experimental groups and comparison groups, and scientific texts with different question types were presented to analyze the level of conceptual achievement and differences in eye movement of sixth-grade elementary students. Data analysis quantitatively analyzed the pre- and post-test results of the developed concept test paper and the eye movement data when learning scientific texts related to seasonal constellations. As a result of the study, first, the SBF question was a valid learning strategy for learning seasonal constellations. The SBF question showed a statistically significant difference (p<0.05) in the pre- and post-test between groups, and a statistically significant difference (p<0.001) in the pre- and post-test within the group. Second, SBF questions had a positive effect on students' learning by inducing learners with low preconceptions to area of interest that help them achieve concepts. In other words, when presenting SBF questions with visual data from a space-based perspective, it was confirmed based on the results of eye movement analysis that there was a significant difference in total fixation count (p<0.01) of learners. On the other hand, for learners with high scientific preconceptions, the effect of exploration was not significant because the preconceptions of the learners themselves acted as a hard core rather than the effect of SBF questions. This study is different from existing seasonal constellation learning studies in that it provides quantitative data through pre- and post-test and eye movement analysis in the seasonal constellation learning process, and can help elementary students learn seasonal constellations.

  • GA has a fast convergence speed in searching the one point around optimal value. But it's convergence time increase in searching the region around optimal value because it has no regional searching mechanism. BP has the tendency to converge the local minimum because it has global searching mechanism. To overcome these problems, a method in which a genetic algorithm and a back propagation are applied in turn is proposed in this paper. By using a genetic algorithm, we compute optimal synaptic strength and offset value. And then, these values are fed to the input of the back propagation. This proposed method is superior to each above method in improving the convergence speed.

  • In this study, we proposed pathological pattern detection system for X-ray chest image using artificial neural network. In a physical examination, radiologists have checked on the chest image projected the view box by a magnifying glass and found out what the disease is. Here, the detection of X-ray fluoroscopy is tedious and time-consuming for human doing. Lowering of efficiency for chest diagnosis is caused by lots mistakes of radiologist because of detecting the micro pathology from the film of small size. So, we proposed the method for disease detection using artificial neural network and digital image processing on a X-ray chest image. This method composes the function of image sampling, median filter, image equalizer used neural network and pattern recognition used neural network. We confirm this method has improved the problem of a conventional method.

A Comparison of Scientific Concepts Acquisition between Cognitive Conflict and Non-Conflict Groups in Korean Elementary Schools (초등학생의 갈등유발집단과 비갈등집단의 개념 형성 정도 및 지속 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the effect of concept formation between conflicted case and non-conflicted case as a method of learning science concepts. This study consists of 8 classes in 5th and 6th grade of elementary school children's in Kyoung-Buk, which were divided into conflicted group and non-conflicted group. The research procedure is as follows : first, two groups were asked the introducing problems-one was asked the conflicting problem, the other was asked the non-conflicting problems. Futhermore, the incorrect-answered students of conflicting problems were classified into conflict group am the correct-answered students of non-conflicting problems were classified into non-conflict group. Secondly, the demonstration and picture presentation about the introducing problems were carried out. Thirdly, the researcher introduced scientific concepts to the students. Afterwards, posttests, made up of the same items, were presented to the students-three times-posttest, delayed posttest(one week), second delayed posttest(one month). Finally, the degree of concept formation between the two groups was compared and analyzed by these results.

Analysis of the Refinement of Shared Mental Model in Science-Gifted Students' Collaborative Problem Solving Process (과학영재의 협업적 문제해결과정에서 나타난 공유된 정신모형의 정교화 양상 분석)

  • To understand the synergy of collaboration and to apply this understanding to education, an analysis of how a team solves a problem and the sharing of their mental models is needed. This paper analyzed two things qualitatively to find out the source of synergy in a collaborative problem-solving process. First, the sharing contents in team mental model and second, the process of sharing the team mental model. Ten gifted middle school students collaborated to solve an ill-defined problem called sunshine through foliage problem. The gifted students shared the following results after the collaboration: First, scientific concept prior to common idea or the idea that all group members have before the discussions; second, unique individual ideas of group members; and third, created ideas that were not originally in the personal mental model. With created ideas, the team model becomes more than the sum of individuals. According to the results of process analysis, in the process of sharing mental model, the students proposed and shared the most important variable first. This result implied that the analysis of the order of sharing ideas is important as much as finding shared ideas. Also, the result shows that through their collaboration, the gifted students' shared mental model became more refined and expanded as compared to their individual prior mental models. It is recommended that these results can be used to measure shared mental model and develop collaborative learning models for students.

Effect of Participation in Regular Leisure Sports on Satisfaction with Family Relationship in Adolescents (청소년의 규칙적인 여가스포츠 참여가 가족관계 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of participation in regular leisure sports on satisfaction with family relationship in adolescents. To achieve this purpose, 650 students of elementary and middle schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi area were selected and surveyed using the purposive sampling method. 611 survey samples were used in final analysis and 39 survey samples were excluded because of untrustworthy response. Statistical program AMOS 18.0 was used to conduct the confirmatory factor analysis and goodness of fit test, and SPSS 21.0 Window program was used to conduct analysis of frequency, t-test, and ANOVA. Through the analysis, the main findings were as follows; First, it was found that the adolescents participating in regular leisure sports has significant difference in satisfaction with family relationships compared to non-participation group. Second, satisfaction with family relationship of parental participation group in regular leisure sport was high the most followed by lonely participation group and non-participation group. Finally, authors described the implications and future studies.

Implementation of Serious Games with Language-Based Cognitive Enhancement for BIF Children (경계선지적기능 아동을 위한 언어기반 인지강화 기능성 게임 구현)

  • This study aims to propose instituting the serious games of language-based cognitive enhancement for the BIF children. The program consists of 4 cognitive areas (perception, attention, working memory, knowledge inference) in 4 language dimensions (phoneme, word, sentence, discourse). 16 games of 4 areas/2 dimensions with 3 difficulty levels were implemented in a mobile station and pilot-tested to children including BIFs. The results from the pilot tests supported for the validity and effectiveness of our games: Children's game performance correlated with their IQ scores (overall and sub-areas) revealing significant differences between the groups. The stroop scores in pre-and-post training hinted the increase of children's cognitive control.
