Development and Evaluation of Road Safety Information Contents Using Commercial Vehicle Sensor Data : Based on Analyzing Traffic Simulation DATA (사업용차량 센서 자료를 이용한 도로안전정보 콘텐츠 개발 : 교통시뮬레이션 자료 분석을 중심으로)

  • A Cooperative Intelligent Transportation System (CITS) provides useful information on upcoming hazards in order to prevent vehicle collisions. In addition, the availability of individual vehicle travel information obtained from the CITS infrastructure allows us to identify the level of road safety in real time and based on analysis of the indicators representing the crash potential. This study proposes a methodology to derive road safety content, and presents evaluation results for its applicability in practice, based on simulation experiments. Both jerk and Stopping Distance Index (SDI) were adopted as safety indicators and were further applied to derive road section safety information. Microscopic simulation results with VISSIM show that 5% and 20% samples of jerk and SDI are sufficient to represent road safety characteristics for all vehicles. It is expected that the outcome of this study will be fundamental to developing a novel and valuable system to monitor the level of road safety in real time.

Conclusion Structure of Thesis in the Journal of Korean Elementary Science Education (초등과학교육 학술지 논문의 결론 구조 분석)

  • This study analyzes the characteristics of the "Conclusions" section of a thesis in elementary science education and presents a conclusion model that can be used in elementary science education. In the "Elementary Science Education" journal published by the Elementary Science Education Association, the conclusion section was analyzed on the four-year academic papers published. First, the title of the concluding chapter and the number of conclusions frequently used in elementary science education were identified. Results showed that most commonly used title for the conclusion section was "Conclusion and Suggestion," and the length of the section was 85.4 lines or 2.1 pages.. Then, as a result of analyzing the conclusions of elementary science journals in sentence units, we found stages as a kind of semantic unit frequently used in elementary science education papers. Further, we obtained that these stages are often used in connection with specific stages. Finally, a conclusion template for papers commonly used in elementary science education was presented. The results of this study can be used as basic data when drafting elementary science education papers. Furthermore, specific thesis regarding education plans and educational materials might be prepared for elementary science education graduate students based on the present results.

Evaluation of Transit Services based on Transit Smart Card Data (스마트카드 데이터를 활용한 대중교통 서비스 평가)

  • This study analyzed the transit services with respect to transit service measures such as the load factor representing number of passengers between stops, dwelling time, and operational speed based on transit smart card data recorded in 2009. A case study on the local bus line 7024 connecting Seoul railway station to evaluate bus services at passenger perspectives was accomplished. From the results, we found that the dwelling time was not affected by the number of passengers which is because the tagging patterns are different among passengers. The operational speed was analyzed by calculating the average speed of the bus route and the speed of each bus stops based on dwelling time. Interestingly, calculating operation speed based on the transit smart card data is the first time effort ever made and this means that it is not necessary to observe travel speed of bus and railway at a field level any more. we hope that this study will be a basis of evaluation of transit services purely based on the transit smart card data and help to make better transit services for passengers and operators as well.

Valuation of Willingness to Pay for Forest Fire Prevention (산불 예방(豫防)을 위한 지불의사금액(支拂意思金額) 평가(評價))

  • The purposes of this study are to estimate mean willingness to pay (WTP) for preventing forest fires by contingent valuation method (CVM), and to calibrate the variables affecting WTP. The forest fire prevention fund was utilized as a payment vehicle to elicit respondents' willingness to pay (WTP). A total of 500 adults who reside in Seoul Metropolitan area were selected by two-stage cluster sampling and conducted the face-to-face interview. The scenario was designed to meet the requirements for double-bounded dichotomous choice CVM. More than half of the respondents (64.6%) have a willing to pay for the fund. The mean WTP was \4,532. Therefore a total WTP for the population was \34,165,758,000. The calibration of Weibull proportional hazard model showed that education level, environmental conservation intention and negative consciousness about the effect of forest fire were independent variables strongly influencing the WTP.

Local Imbalance of Emergency Medical Services(EMS): Analyses on 119 EMS Activity Reports of Busan (구급서비스의 지역 불균형: 부산시 119 구급활동일지 분석)

  • This study analyzed local imbalances in the supply and demand of emergency medical services in Busan using the 119 emergency activity reports of the Busan Fire & Disaster Headquarters. The data for EMS activity reports in 2017 was converted into Jimgyegu units. The spatial distribution of the indicators representing the local imbalance of emergency demand and supply (number of reports, number of reports relative to the population, average coefficient of variation and outlier of on-site arrival time, and number of dispatches outside the jurisdiction) was analyzed using Hotspot analysis of GIS spatial statistics analysis. As a result of the analysis, the hot spot area and the cold spot area where both supply and demand of emergency services are concentrated were clearly distinguished. This means that the supply and demand of emergency services in Busan are locally unbalanced. In particular, there was a difference in the demand and supply of emergency services in the original downtown and its surrounding areas, and in the outskirts of Busan.

  • Currently, the establishment and management of civil defense shelters are under the initiative of the government and local governments to protect the lives of citizens. In the future, there is a need for efficient civil defense shelters operation through the expansion of general shelters, including designated dedicated shelters. Therefore, it is more efficient to consider the distribution of residents and the location of access to shelters, not the quantitative operation considering only the number of residents. This study uses genetic algorithms and Huff gravity model based on census output data, building data, and road network information to understand the distribution of inhabitants more precisely than existing administrative district data. In addition, the spatial- database was used for efficient data management and fast processing, and if this study is improved, it can be used as a basis for the selection and improvement of general shelters positioning for a wider area.

Improvement of Service Quality for Urban Railway Operations Using Simulation (시뮬레이션을 이용한 도시철도 운행 서비스품질 개선에 관한 연구)

  • In the major operation sections of the urban railway, there has been habitual delay, and delay propagation; another problem is the increase of crowds and of inconvenience to passengers. The urban railway has different characteristics from rural railways, such as uncertainty of demand and irregularity of train operation. In urban railways, recently, operators manage quality indicators of service using operation results, such as the delay of train operation and the congestion of trains. However, because the urban railway has characteristics in which demand, passenger behavior, and train operation mutually affect each other, it is difficult to express the quality of service that passengers actually feel. In this paper, we suggest a quality indicator of service from the viewpoint of passengers, and present a demand responsive multi-train simulation method to predict dynamic dwell time and train operation status; we also use simulation results to consider changes in the quality indicator of service.

  • Fatigue cracks can be generated in aircraft as a result of the cumulative time spent during flight operations, which can extend for long periods of time and cover a variety of missions. If a crack occurs in an aircraft's main spar, it can generate many problems, including a lift time reduction. To solve this problem, it was necessary to perform an analysis of fatigue crack growth in the fatigue critical locations. Much time and expense is involved in generating the stress needed for a crack propagation analysis over a long period of time to obtain the amount of data required for an actual aircraft. In this paper, an algorithm is developed that can calculate the spectrum of stress over a long period of time for a mission by the Southwest Research Institute, which is based on the short-time load factor data produced using the peak-valley cycle counting method.

An Overview of Exit Polls for the 2006 Local Elections (2006년 지방선거 출구조사 현황 및 예측오차)

  • This article attempts to provide an overview of the exit polls for the 2006 local elections in Korea. The sampling method, sampling error, non-response rate, and prediction error of the exit polls are reviewed. Also, we explore the fact that the propensity to vote varies according to age and gender of voters. In terms of age and gender, the representativeness of the sample is investigated by comparing to the data released by the National Election Commission. Through this empirical research, we show that the exit poll samples are unbalanced in terms of age and this unbalance may be one of the causes of bias occurred in the prediction of the 2006 local election results. The design effects of the sample design implemented for the exit polls are also examined.

  • As the firewall is a typical network security equipment, it is usually installed at most of internal/external networks and makes many packet data in/out. So analyzing the its logs stored in it can provide important and fundamental data on the network security research. However, along with development of communications technology, the speed of internet network is improved and then the amount of log data is becoming 'Massive Data' or 'BigData'. In this trend, there are limits to analyze log data using the traditional database model RDBMS. In this paper, through our Method of Analyzing Firewall log data using MapReduce based on NoSQL, we have discovered that the introducing NoSQL data base model can more effectively analyze the massive log data than the traditional one. We have demonstrated execellent performance of the NoSQL by comparing the performance of data processing with existing RDBMS. Also the proposed method is evaluated by experiments that detect the three attack patterns and shown that it is highly effective.
