Copper concentrate particles were fed from the top of vertical reaction tube of 2.8 cm ID and 65 cm long with an $O_2$-$N_2$ gas mixture. The reaction tube was heated to 1000 K to 1400 K. The copper concentrate particles were very rapidly oxidized and melted down during their descent in the reaction tube. The particle temperature were calculated by combining an unreacted core model, mass transfer between gas and particles, and heat transfer between gas, particles and tube wall. The particle temperature reached its maximum at the height of 20 to 30 cm from the top of the reaction tube, and it attained about 1700 K at higher oxy-gen partial pressure. The most particles were melted at the oxygen partial pressure above 0.2 atm.

Liquid rocket injectors play crucial roles on propulsive performance, combustion stability, and heat transfer characteristics. Nevertheless, their developments have mainly relied on empirical methods and expensive hot-firing tests due to lack of fundamental understanding of high pressure combustion phenomena in the near-injector regions. The present study was motivated by recent efforts to develop reliable modeling of liquid rocket combustion. The turbulent combustion model based on the flamelet concept has been extended to take into account real-fluid behaviors occurred at supercritical pressures, and validated against measurements for a cryogenic nitrogen injection, a non-premixed turbulent jet flame at atmospheric pressure, and a LOx/$GH_2$ coaxial shear injector at a supercritical pressure.

Digestate or slurry produced from anaerobic digestion is mostly applied to crop lands for its disposal and recovering nutrients. However, minimizing nitrogen losses following field application of the digestate is important for maximizing the plant's nitrogen uptake and reducing environmental concerns. This study was conducted to assess the effects of three different biogas digestate application techniques (sawdust mixed with digestate (SSD), the hole application method (HA), and digestate injected in the soil (SD)) on nitrate leaching potential in the soil. A pot laboratory experiment was conducted at room temperature of 25 ± 2 ℃ for 107 days. The experimental results showed that sawdust application method turned out to be appropriate for quick immobilization of surplus N in the form of microbial biomass N, reflecting its lower total nitrogen and NH4-N contents and low pH. The NH4-N and total nitrogen fate in the soil fertilized with manure showed no statistically significant (p > 0.05) differences between the different methods applied during the incubation time under room temperature. In contrast, NO3-N concentration indicates significant reduction in sawdust treatment (p < 0.05) compared to the control and other application methods. However, the soil sawdust mixed with digestate was more effective than the other methods, because of the cumulative labile carbon contents of the amendment, which implies soil net N immobilization.
Many railway-advanced countries are using the various types of track to reduce the track maintenance and repair cost according to the improvement of velocity. It spends on much maintenance and repair cost for ballast track due to abrasion of ballast, track irregularity and unisotropical ballast-support stiffness. The ballast track on railway bridge is accelerating the deterioration of ballast according to interaction of railway bridge and track. As continuing the deterioration, it is caused dynamic loads. Due to these effects, it increases negative loads of track and bridge. However, when designing the railway bridge, the effect of ballast track was applicate only dead load, so elastic behavior effect of ballast track is not influenced. Therefore, this paper presumes the stiffness of ballast track on railway bridge considering dynamic behavior of railway bridge, it was evaluated that effect on dynamic behaviors of railway bridge according to ballast track stiffness.

This experiment was performed to evaluate the characteristics of BNR system performance, behavior of pollutants as organic and nitrogen at each basin and the effects of C/N ratio on biological nitrogen removal with methanol as an external carbon source for a low C/N ratio municipal wastewater. A lab-scale $A_2O$ system by employing the aerobic basin with the fluidized polyurethane media, which was $10{\sim}20$ mm rube type like a sponge, was used. The aerobic basin was hybrid type to be suspended and fixed biomass. The obtained results from this study were as follows; When no methanol was added, suspended biomass was 3 times more than that of the fluidized media in this system(total biomass 80 g). Biomass growed by an external carbon was firstly attached on media, and then suspended. $COD_{Cr}$ concentration for the effluent was a range of 13 to 29 mg/L regardless of pouring an external carbon. For nitrogen, the effluent concentration was $20.0{\sim}35.9mg/L$(removal efficiency; 18%) in case of no addition of an external carbon, but was $2.5{\sim}9.0mg/L$(removal efficiency ; $71{\sim}83%$) with addition of methanol. For the characteristics of pollutants removal, most of $COD_{Cr}$ were removed at the anaerobic basin when no external organic carbon was added, and were removed at the anoxic basin in case of adding external organic carbon but at the aerobic basin in case of adding excess external organic carbon. On the other hand, most TIN(total inorganic nitrogen) were removed at the anaerobic basin when no external organic carbon was added, but when an external organic carbon was added, they were removed at the anaerobic basin under unstable condition and at the anoxic basin under stable condition.
Leakage of leachate from animal carcass disposal is a significant issue because disease can easily spread to humans and other livestock. In this study, we analyzed the physicochemical properties of leachate and tested for the presence of aerobic bacteria in leachate using molecular biology methods, for 16 animal carcass disposals in the first stage (after burial for 5 months). Leachate physicochemical analysis revealed higher total coliforms, TOC, $NH^{4+}$, and $NO^{3-}$ concentrations compared with previously published data. In most leachate samples, the concentrations of $NH^{4+}$ and $NO^{3-}$ exceeded the Korean guideline values for drinking water. In 16S rRNA sequence analysis of the distribution of leachate under aerobic conditions, Bacillus pumilus, Lysinibacillus sphaericus, and B. sphaericus were observed with high frequency, whereas no food-poisoning-related bacteria such as B. cereus or Salmonella were detected. The present findings improve our knowledge of the transport of leachate from animal carcass disposal sites through geologic media, and are useful in risk analysis and for subsequent studies.
As the demand for a clean energy to replace fossil fuel being depleted increases, hydrogen energy is considered as a promising candidate for future energy source. Water electrolysis which produces hydrogen has high energy efficiency and stability but still has a large overpotential for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). In this study, $Co_3O_4$ catalysts with different morphology were prepared by spray pyrolysis from solutions which contain Co precursor and various organic additives (urea, sucrose, and citric acid), followed by post heat treatment. For the catalysts synthesized, X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements were performed to identify their crystal structure. Morphology and surface shape of the catalysts were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Surface area and pore volume were examined by nitrogen adsortpion & desorption tests and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was conducted to confirm nitrogen doping. Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) was carried out to investigate OER activity of $Co_3O_4$ catalysts. As a result, bare-$Co_3O_4$ which has high surface area and small particle size determined by spray pyrolysis showed high activity toward OER.

There are several purpose to introduce microorganism into the Soil. The major purpose is to promote plant growth and inhibit plant pathogens. The model example is to put in nitrogen fixing symbiotic bacteria, Pythium and Rhizobium. In order to achieve the intended goal, the introduced microorganism should survive and colonize with sufficient density. The survival of introduced microorganism depend upon biotic and abiotic factors. Predation and competition are important among biotic factor. Water tension, organic carbon, inorganic nutrients(N, P), pH are important factor among abiootic factor. Soil texture and distribution of soil pore are also important in the survival and colonization of introduced microorganism. Selection by soil ecosystem for inoculant is a crucial factor for colonization. Good example are control of autochtonous microorganism and the introduction of surfactant biodegrading Pseudomonas. Sometimes, carriers such as peat and montmorillonite can be added to help colonization. Carriers can protect introduced microorganism by supplying protective microhabitat. Organic polymer is also used as a carrier to immobilize bacteria or industrial enzymes. Examples of these carrier are calcium alginate, agarose and k-carrageenan. The function of these carrier is to provide microhabitat and help colonization for introduced microorganism.
The direct fluorination of polymers is a heterogeneous reaction using the mixture of $F_2$ and inert gas. In general, the resulting fluorinated polymers have good barrier property chemical stability similar to those of the fluoro-polymers, and could be prepared from the simple process. In this study, the polysulfone dense films were surface fluorinated using the direct fluorination technique and gas permeability and selectivity of the prepared membranes were measured with varying both $F_2$ concentration and reaction time. The introduction of $F_2$ was confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), water contact angles, and atomic force microscopy (AFM). As the $F_2$ increased, the permeability decreased while the selectivities for $O_2$, $CO_2$, and He gases relative to $N_2$ increased.

This study was conducted to investigate the nutrient distribution and controlling factors in small stream estuaries. The seasonal variations of nutrient concentration (nitrate, ammonium and phosphate) were observed from 2010 to 2012 in the three streams located in Dang-hang (closed estuary: Go-seong, open estuary: Gu-man and Ma-am). The nutrient concentrations in Go-seong were significantly higher than other estuaries, because Go-seong is relatively large and has large nutrient load from the watershed. The dyke located at the estuary, also, caused the high nutrient concentration by reducing the dilution and increasing residence time. In all three streams, nitrate concentration was high at upstream and decreased toward the downstream, because high load of nutrient input were located at upstream. Dilution and biogeochemical removal toward the downstream also caused the trends. Especially, denitrification, a typical nitrogen removing process showed clear tendency of gradual decreasing from upstream to downstream. However, Ammonium and phosphate concentrations were high at upstream and decreased toward the downstream only when the nutrient loads from the rivers were high. Nutrient concentrations were low in summer and high in winter. Freshwater discharge in summer caused a decrease of the residence time and increase of the transport of nutrients to downstream and reduced the nutrient concentrations in the estuary. Nutrient removal by the biological production during high temperature periods also affected the low nutrient concentrations. Small stream estuaries showed distinct nutrient dynamics. It is necessary to understand these characteristics in order to properly manage the small stream estuary.
