  • Under the influence of non-uniform magnetic field, melt flow in steady state and oxygen concentration in unsteady state are numerically investigated. The strength of the applied characteristic magnetic fields are B=0.1T, 0.2T, and 0.3T, respectively. The buoyancy effects due to the crucible wall heating and the thermocapillary effects due to the surface tention at the free surface are suppressed differentially by the non-uniform magnetic fields. As the intensity of characteristic magnetic fields is increasing, the recirculation region in the meridional plane is moving toward the growing crystal, and is diminishing. The oxygen concentration on the growing surface of crystals is decreasing and the uniformity of the oxygen concentration is increasing as the intensity of the magnetic fields is increasing.

  • Satellite laser ranging observation of LAGEOS II has been performed using the SLR System at Sheshan Laser Ranging Station, Shanghai Observatory. And we obtained 1,838 observational points. The observed range data is corrected by means of system delay correction using ground target observation, atmospheric refraction delay correction, offset correction, general relativistic correction and tide correction including solid tide, polar tide and ocean tide. As a result, the determined range delay mean value is 19.12m and the mean internal accuracy by means of polynomial fitting and least square method is $\pm$7cm. Corrected observational points are 1,340 and noise ratio to total observational points is 27.1%.

  • UHV-LCVD system was constructed for high quality silicon nitride thin film fabrication. This system consisted of a reaction chamber, an introduction chamber with sample load lock entry, a carbinet for gas manipulation controlling gas flow, a $CO_2$ laser and a Fourier transform mass spectrometer. Although the UHV-LCVD system construction was more sophisticated than low pressure CVD, highly pure thin films were fabricated by controlling gas mixing ratio and flow rate in ultra high vacuum surroundings.

  • The characteristics of the floating breakwater is briefly reviewed and their performance is numerically investigated. The numerical scheme is a boundary integral method for inviscid potential flows, and various two-dimensional floating breakwater modules are studied focusing on the transmission coefficient. The general characteristics of pontoons is studied as function of mooring line stiffness, mass moment inertia and draft. Trapezoidal-, hat- and table-shape cross-sections are also studied with varying shape-parameters. The efficiency varies with changes in each shape-parameter and for some cases satisfying tranquility can be expected with even longer waves.

  • This paper presents controller design of a two wheeled mobile inverted pendulum robot for one man transportation vehicle. Since the overall mass is varying with different drivers, suitable controller gains are obtained through experimental studies. Variation of the center of gravity due to different masses also affects stable balancing control. Thus, the desired balancing angle si required to be modified with respect to different masses. To measure masses for different drivers, a weight scale is used and those data are used for balancing control through communication. The gain scheduling method of using data obtained from experimental studies allows the robot to have stable balancing performances.

  • The gas jet from a coaxial porous injector for two-phase flows is discharged from the porous surface, which encloses the center liquid jet, and the gas and liquid jet interact with each other physically. The wall injected gas jet transfers the radial momentum effectively while the radial gas jet develops to axial jet, and the performance of atomizing and mixing can be improved. In this study, the Weber number and the ratio of momentum flux were controlled by changing the gas injection area and the mass flow rate of the gas jet, and a study on the spray characteristics at the cold-flow test using water and air simulant was performed. It is concluded that the radial momentum transfer concept of a coaxial porous injector gives a positive effect on the atomization and mixing of the two-phase spray.

  • As the recent announcement of the functional cosmetics law, the need of studies on efficacy evaluation of skin related cosmetics and medical supplies has grown. Especially to identify skin improvement, we have to compare the exact parts of the skin, however up to now it is compared only by image matching that is appeared to the human eye. This study proposes the automatical image matching system for improving the accuracy of evaluation a skin improvement. Firstly we define the feature of the skin pores and wrinkles, and extract anticipation region from skin images. And then, we calculate moments for each extracted regions and classify them as pores and wrinkles. After that, we calculate the vector by computing centroids between each regions. Through this process, we compare the vector similarities and perform the matching between existing image and reference image. To verify the efficiency of the algorithm several experiments are conducted.

  • Differential equations and its numerical solution program using Turbo-C were formulated to describe the radical distribution and average displacement amplitude of vibrating dehydrated contact lens(HEMA) driven by sinusoidal or rectangular pressure. The natural resonant frequency of the lens diaphram(thickness 0.08mm, diameter 14mm, curvature radius 8mm) was measured to be 5730 Hz from the extrapolation of frequency vs addedmass to the diaphram curve. The Young's modulus of the lens was measured to be $4{\times}10^9$ Pa with altering the original shape. The effect of parameters such as thickness, effective radius, damping coeff., amplitude of driving pressure on the vibration characteristics was illustrated by the computer simulation of the derived program. When the frequency of driving pressure coincides with the integral multiple of fundamental resonance frequency of the lens the wave pattern changes from arc to bell-shape along the radial position of the diaphram. If this happens to the contact lens on the cornea in vivo, it might create the feel of pull of the lens due to the increased rise of central part of the lens.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of foot type and ankle joint fatigue levels on the trajectories of center of pressure and center of mass during a single-leg stance. The study subjects included 24 healthy women (normal foot group, n=10; pronated foot group, n=14). Ankle joint muscle fatigue was induced by using an isokinetic dynamometer, where the fatigue levels were measured on plantar flexion and dorsiflexion at angular velocities of $30^{\circ}/s$ at 50% and 30% of the peak torque of ankle plantar flexion. Following assessments in the anteroposterior direction according to the level of fatigue, the pronated foot group showed decreased single-leg stance ability at 50% and 30% of the fatigue level. Moreover, the normal foot group showed better single-leg stance ability than the pronated foot group at 30% of the fatigue level. Following assessments in the mediolateral direction, we noted that the single-leg stance ability did not differ significantly according to the levels of fatigue or foot type. In conclusion, ankle plantar flexion at 50% and 30% of the peak torque reduced the ability of the pronated foot group to achieve a single leg stance in the anteroposterior direction. Moreover, the normal foot group showed better single-leg stance ability than the pronated foot group.

  • Over the last three decades, advances in AMS (Accelerator Mass Spectrometry) and Noble Gas Mass Spectrometer make various application of terrestrial cosmogenic nuclides (CNs) to wide range of earth surface sciences possible. Dating techniques can be divided into three sub-approaches: simple surface exposure dating, depth-profile dating, and burial dating, depending on the condition of targeted surfaces. In terms of Korean landscape view, CNs dating can be applied to fluvial and marine terrace, alluvial fan, tectonic landform (fault scarp and faulted surfaces), debris landforms such as rock fall, talus, block field and stream, lacustrine and marine wave-cut platform, cave deposits, Pliocene basin fill and archaeological sites. In addition, in terms of lithology, the previous limit to quartz-rich rocks such as granite and gneiss can be expanded to volcanic and carbonate rocks with the help of recent advances in CNs analysis in those rocks.
