  • The purpose of this study is to devise a model of career decision in the science-gifted by exploring factors of having influence upon career decision in the science-gifted undergraduates of our country, and by examining pattern and path of career decision. By suggesting a model of structure, which synthetically considered factors of parents (parental social support), school (stress of college life, adjustment to college life), and individual characteristics(problem solving ability, career decision-making self-efficacy, conviction for major selection)as for career decision in the science-gifted undergraduates through this study, the aim was to arrange the theoretical frame for career in the science-gifted undergraduates. The research subjects were 93(class of 2007~2009) students who completed education in 2002 and 2003 at the gifted education center affiliated with University, and 264 scholarship students(class of 2005-2008) by the President at home and abroad, who are receiving scholarship by being selected as a science scholarship student by the incumbent President. The measurement tools, which were used in this study for collecting data, are test of parental social support, test of problem-solving ability, test of stress in college life, test of adjustment to college life, test of efficacy in career decision, and test of having confidence in selecting a major. For statistical analysis of the collected data, SPSS Program and AMOS Program were used. As a result, the model showed a good fit to the present data in the science-gifted undergraduates, TLI=.928, CFI=.941, RMSEA=.059. It was confirmed to be a model that is accepted in the group of the science-gifted undergraduates. Also, hypotheses, which were established on the basis of a theoretical quest, could be known to have been all adopted except one path. The results of this study can be offered as basic data for developing program and implementing a system in order to broaden the width of understanding about career and to help the career decision in the science-gifted.

In this study, we analyzed the relationship between the variables related to career indecision of college students and the structural equation model to verify the fit of the research model. The results of this study suggest that adaptive perfectionism has a positive effect on career decision self-efficacy and career decision self-efficacy has a negative effect on career indecision and adaptive perfectionism has a negative effect on career indecision by mediating career decision self-efficacy. In addition, maladaptive perfectionism has a negative effect on career decision self-efficacy, and it has a positive effect on career indecision through mediation of career decision self-efficacy. we discussed the implications for career decision making and employment of college students based on the results of the relationship between variables such as perfectionism, career decision self-efficacy, and career indecision.

Also, This study explored whether the development of career aspiration differs by gender. A total of 316 undergraduate students(155 male and 161 female) completed measures of social support, personal self-esteem, collective self-esteem and career aspiration. Structural equation modeling results provided support for the mediating effects of personal self-esteem and collective self-esteem, In addition, the relationship model differed by gender. The results showed that the full mediation model fit of collective self-esteem in the relationship between individual self-esteem and career aspiration was better than the partial mediation model fit. Next, in the relation of social support and career aspiration, the partial mediating effect of individual self-esteem and collective self esteem was significant. Lastly, when the model of social support, individual self-esteem, and collective self-esteem, and career aspiration was tested to examine gender differences, the relations among these variables were found to be different according to gender-difference. These results suggest that evaluations and perceptions on the individual's social group as well as the individual influedced to career aspiration, interacting with the environmental factors. Also, the gender-difference of relationship model indicates that it might be different from men and women in psychological mechanism in the career aspiration formation.

  • This study aims to verify the effect of mother's career-related behavior on the intention of multicultural youths to school dropout intention and the mediating effect of academic adaptation. To this end, 1,121 middle school seniors were sampled in the 7th (2017) data of the Multicultural Youth Panel Survey, and the influence relationship of the model presented as a three-step method of analysis of the mediated effects of Baron & Kenny and the Sobel test were conducted. First, the analysis showed that mother's support, a subfactor of mother's career-related behavior, had a negative effect on dropout intention, and that mother's interference had a positive effect. Second, academi adaptation has been shown to have a negative effect on dropout intention. • This study verified the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the Student Career Construct Inventory(K-SCCI) that was translated into Korean language from the Student Career Construct Inventory (SCCI) developed by Savickas et al.(2018). To achieve this, this study conducted item content analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and criterion-related validity in 530 university students. As a result of item content analysis and exploratory factor analysis, it was found that 4 factor models and 18 items were the most appropriate in K-SCCI. The 4 factors were named as crystallizing a vocational self-concept, exploring to gather information about occupations, deciding to commit to an occupational choic, and preparing to implement that choice. As a result of confirmatory factor analysis to verify the goodness-of-fit of the 4 factor models, it appeared to be appropriate. As a result of analyzing the correlation with related measures to verify the criterion-related validity of measures, it was found that student career construct was negatively correlated with employment anxiety but positively correlated with career adaptability.
