  • A theoretical models has been prepared which describes the noise generated by tire/road interaction for the tire structure-borne sound analysis. The model begin with a set of thin shell equations describing the motion of the belt of a radial ply tire, as drived by Bohm('mechanisms of the belted tire', Igeniur-Archiv, XXXV, 1966). Structural quantities required for these equations are derived from material properties of the tire. The rolling shape of a tire is computed from the steady-state limit of these equations. Vibrational response of the tire is treated by the full dependent shell equations. The force input at the tire/road interface is calculated on the basis of tread geometry and distribution of contact patch pressure. Radiation of noise is calculated by a simpson integral. Using the programs, the effect on noise of various tire design variations is computed and discussed. Trends which lead to quiet tire design are identified.

  • An evaluation method for flutter derivatives is proposed, using indicial functions of structural members produced by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Flutter derivatives are obtained by Fourier integration of indicial functions. Instead of direct simulation of oscillating objects, only the calculation of time-dependent lift and moment variations of fixed objects with constant attack angle are necessary. The Finite Element Method (FEM) is developed as a tool for the numerical method. For two rectangular sections having different aspect ratios, the numerical analysis and wind tunnel test are carried out to inspect the adequacy of this study. The results proved to be good, and they could be used for a preliminary design.

  • A cup burner experiment was performed to investigate the effect of the oxidizer velocity and concentration on flame instability near extinction. Heptane was used as a fuel and air diluted by nitrogen and carbon dioxide was used in the oxidizer stream. Two types of flame instabilities at the flame base and at axial downstream were observed near extinction. The instability at the flame base could be characterized by cell, swing, and rotation modes, and the cell mode changed to the rotation mode through the swing mode as the oxidizer velocity increased. To assess the parameters for the flame instability, the initial mixture strengths, Lewis number, and adiabatic flame temperature were investigated under each condition. The Lewis number might be the most important among them, but it is impossible to generalize because of the insufficient number of cases. Furthermore, the axial periodic flickering motion disappeared at low and high oxidizer velocities near extinction. This resulted from the fact that low oxidizer velocity induced evaporated fuel velocity below the critical velocity and high velocity made the reacting fuel velocity comparable.

  • The ration of payload to weight of industrial robot amounts form 1:10 to 1:30. Compared with man who have a ration of 3:1, it is very low. One of the goals for the next generation of robots will be a ration. This might be possible only by developing lightweight robots. When two-link flexible arm is rotated about an joint axis, transverse vibration may occur. In this paper, vibration dynamics of flexible arm is modeled by using Bernoulli-Euler beam theory and Lagrange equation. Using the fact that matrix $\dot{D}-2C$ is skew symmetric, new controllers which have a simplified structure with less computational burden is proposed by using Lyapunov stability theory. We propose deterministic and adaptive control laws for two link flexible arm, and the validity of the proposed control scheme is shown in computer simulation for two-link flexible arm.

  • This paper describes the general formulation for the in-plane flexural free vibration analysis of two layered structure by the transfer influence coefficient method. The structure is regared as a distributed mass system with lumped mass and inertia moments, massless linear and rotational springs, and joints elements of releases and rolls at which the displacements are discontinuous in each layer. The results of the simple numerical examples on a personal computer demonstrate the validity of the present method, that is, the numerical high accuracy, the high speed, the flexibility for programming of the present algorithm, compared with the transfer matrix method.

  • Through analytical method based on S-76 model, the level of rotor hub vibration reduction was analyzed according to higher harmonic actuating by individual blade control. The higher harmonic actuating method for individual blades was divided into a method of generating an additional actuating force from the pitch-link in the rotating part and generating actuating force through the active trailing edge flap control of the blade. In the 100kts forward flight conditions, the hub load analysis was performed by changing the phase angle of 15 degree for the 2P/3P/4P/5P harmonic actuation for individual blades. Through the harmonic actuation results, the sensitivity of the rotor system according to the actuating conditions was analyzed, and the T-matrix representing the characteristics of the rotor system was derived based on this analysis result. And through this T-matrix, optimal higher harmonic actuating condition was derived to minimize hub vibration level for flight condition. In addition, the effect on the performance of the rotor system and the pitch-link load under minimum hub vibration condition, as well as the noise influence through the noise analysis were confirmed.

  • In this study, comparison between Harris-theoretical values and experimental data of load-deflection characteristics in bearing was made. The experiments are conducted under the conditions of the various radial loads and speed of shaft. In the case of non-defective ball bearing, the experimental data agreed well with the Harris-theoretical values for the small steady radial load but not for the large steady radial load. For the radial load bearing, the experimental results show that the stiffness of bearing at the single and multiple defective bearing are bigger in the radial defectiion than in the axial deflection. Load-deflection characteristics for the bearing defect part make it possible to detect the presence of a defect in bearing.

  • In this paper, the sound radiation from a clamped circular plate with a viscoelastic layer excited by impact force is studied both analytically and experimentally. The composite plate vibrations are obtained by using the normal mode analysis and the eigenvalues are obtained by a Mindlin plate theory including the rotary inertia and shear deformation, The contact force developed between the ball and the plate with attached layers is obtained by Hertz contact theory. The radiated sound pressure is calculated by the Rayleigh integral. Prediction of the waveforms of sound radiating from the plate with attached layers and a method for reducing noise generation from the plate by impact force are also shown in this paper.

  • This paper presents the analytical-FE (finite element) squeal model, which can provide the efficient simulation time and accuracy. The system geometry and the extraction of the vibration modes were constructed using the finite element method. Instead, the friction contact model was derived from theoretical contact kinematics of the rotating disc and the stationary pads. This modeling procedure was incorporated into the perturbed equations of motion based on the finite elements of the system. Throughout the analytical-FE squeal model, the accuracy of linear stability analysis and the simulation time of FE squeal analysis were improved. In addition, the sensitivity of contact stiffness on brake squeal and the mode-coupling mechanism were provided by the system parameter study.

  • A naval shipboard inevitably movies in a pitch and roll direction under the influence of wave and wind in the sea. As a result, the shipboard gets in a continuous turning motion back/front and right/left. And the shipboard is also constantly exposed to many different kinds of disturbance signals including the vibrations of various frequencies from the internal equipments and their vibrations, strong waves, and impact from explosion. This paper formulates multi-body dynamic models similar to an actual system and simulates the pitch/roll positions of a 2-axes gimbals with PI controller for consecutive behavior of a naval shipboard including disturbance.
