This study investigated electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) of hybrid conductive fabrics. The coaxial transmission line method was used to measure the EMI Shielding effectiveness of the conductive fabrics. We designed and constructed a measuring system, consisting of a network analyzer and a device that serves as a sample holder and at the same time as a transmission medium of incident electromagnetic waves. The measurements of SE were carried out in a frequency range from 100 MHz to 2 GHz. The results of the EMI shielding experiments showed that the maximum electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (EMSE) values of sandwich type C/A/C (carbon fiber sheet/aluminum foil tape/carbon fiber sheet) and C/Ni/C (carbon fiber sheet/magnetic shielding foil/carbon fiber sheet) samples were 55 dB and 113 dB, respectively, at a frequency of 1.9 GHz.
Weaving, is an ideal subject for study to designer who is concerned with interrelationship between art and technology. Double cloth is a two layered fabric that can be woven on the loom with more than 4 harnesses, is often used to produce special woven fabric such as double width fabric or reverse pattern fabric, etc, in textile industry. Because of the attractive characteristic of two layered structure, double cloth technique can be applied as expressive media in fiber art requiring aesthetics and creativty. in the work, the concept, types, and characteristics of double weave have been studied through literature survey and sample production and the potential characteristics of this technique is, especially, emphasized by analysing the representative works of artists specilized in a double weave. Double weave technique can provide various images or forms throught the variation of structures and expressive styles and therefore suggests another characteristic expression creative means for weaver to develope.
In this paper, an efficient method is proposed to produce photorealistic images of woven fabrics without empirical data such as the measured BRDFs(bidirectional reflectance distribution functions). The proposed method is applicable both to ray tracer based offline renderers and to realtime applications such as games. The proposed method models the reflectance properties of woven fabric with alternating anisotropy and deformed MDF(microfacet distribution function). The procedural modeling of the yarn structure effectively and efficiently reproduces plausible rendering of woven fabric. The experimental results show the proposed method can be successfully applied to photorealistic rendering of diverse woven fabric materials even in interactive applications.

This study investigated electromagnetic interference(EMI) shielding effectiveness(SE) of the aluminum film, conductive fabric and nano carbon black carbon fiber reinforced composites. We fabricated carbon fiber reinforced composites filled with nano carbon black where they bonded aluminum film and conductive fabric. The measurements of SE were carried out frequency range from 300MHz to 1.5GHz. It is observed that the SE of the bonded aluminum film and conductive fabric composites is the frequency dependent, increase with the increase in filler nano carbon black content. The aluminum film bonded composites showed higher SE compared to that of carbon black and conductive fabric. The aluminum film bonded epoxy composite was shown to exhibit up to 80dB of SE. The result that aluminum film bonded composite can be used for the purpose of EMI shielding as well as for some microwave applications.
This study is focused on an integrated numerical modeling enabling one to investigate the dynamic behavior and failure of 2-D textile composite and 3-D orthogonal woven composite structures weakened by micro-cracks and subjected to an impact load. The integrated numerical modeling is based on: I) determination of governing equations via a three-level hierarchy: micro-mechanical unit cell analysis, layer-wise analysis accounting for transverse strains and stresses, and structural analysis based on anisotropic plate layers, II) development of an efficient computational approach enabling one to perform transient response analyses of 2-D plain woven and 3-D orthogonal woven composite structures featuring the matrix cracking and exposed to time-dependent loads, III) determination of the structural characteristics of the textile-layered composites and their degraded features under various geometrical yarn shapes, and finally, IV) assessment of the implications of stiffness degradation on dynamic response to impact loads.

A porous tube, comprised of a resin-coated woven fabric has recently been used as an effective component for use in intake systems of internal combustion engines to reduce the intake roaring. For the prediction of the acoustic performance of an engine intake system with a porous woven hose, the acoustic wall impedance of the hose must be known. Because of its peculiar acoustical and structural characteristics, the accurate measurement of the wall impedance ofa porous woven hose is not easy. A new measurement technique is proposed herein, that is valid over the low to mid frequency ranges. The acoustics impedance is inversely estimated from an overdetermined set of measured pressure transmission coefficients for specimens of different lengths and the reflection coefficient of end termination. The method involves only one measurement, and, as a result, it is very simple. The measured TL for samples with arbitrary conditions, arbitrary porous frequency, arbitrary length, and arbitrary mean flow condition, are in reasonably good agreement with values predicted from curve-fitted impedance data.

This paper represents a simple and effective calculation method to predict the orthotropic engineering constants for C/SiC woven fabric composite. The method, a quasi-analytical method using the modified equivalent laminated model, idealizes the woven fabric structure as a symmetric three-ply laminate to utilize a classical laminated plate theory. The required initial parameters are in-plane modulus from experiments and crimp ratio of the woven fabric. This study shows its feasibility by demonstrating example to calculate the engineering constants to thickness direction needed for three dimensional thermo-mechanical stress calculations.

Since the mechanical strength and stiffness of wire-woven bulk Kagome (BK) have been theoretically estimated by assuming that WBK is composed of straight struts, the analytical solutions occasionally give substantial errors as compared with the experimental results. The struts of WBK are helically formed, which results in errors in the estimations In this study, for accurately predicting the mechanical properties of WBK, the effects of waviness and brazed part are taken into account for estimating the strength and stiffness of WBK. The results are compared with the measured experimental results and the results estimated by a finite element analysis performed on a unit cell under periodic boundary conditions (PBC).

Inner structured and bonded panel, or ISB Panel, as a kind of sandwich type panel, has metallic inner structures which have low relative density, due to their dimensional shape of metal between a pair of metal skin sheets or face sheets. Previous works showed that ISB panels containing inner structures formed as repeated pyramidal shapes saved weight up to $60\%$ in condition of same stiffness comparing with solid sheet. In this work, woven metal is adapted to inner structures replacing pyramidal structures. The test specimens of ISB panel containing woven metal made by multi-point electric resistance welding and 3-point bending test have been carried out. The results of experiments and comparisons of process parameters, stiffness and failure mode are discussed.
Flow-induced voids during resin impregnation and poor fiber wetting have known to be highly detrimental to the performance of composite parts manufactured by resin transfer molding(RTM) process. In this study, in order to overcome these serious problems encountered in RTM, the effects of surface modification by using silane coupling agent as a surface modifier on the flow characteristics, the wetting between resin and fiber, and void content were investigated. For the experiments of microscopic flow visualization and curing in a beam mold, glass fiber mats having plain weaving structure and epoxy resin were used. Modifying the fiber surface was found to result in a significant decrease of dynamic contact angle between resin and fiber and increase of wicking rate. Therefore, it was confirmed that the surface modification employed in this study could improve the wettability of reinforcing fibers as well as micro flow behavior. In addition, It was revealed that high temperature and low penetration rate of the resin are more favorable processing conditions to reduce the dynamic contact angle. However, surface modified fiber mat was found to have lower permeability than the unmodified one, which may be explained in terms of the decrease of contact time between resin and fiber owing to improvement of wetting. It was also exhibited that surface modification had a significant influence on void formation in RTM process, resulting in a decrease of overall void content due to the improvement of wetting in cured composite parts.
