  • A series hydraulic hybrid vehicle(SHHV) concept has been explored as a potential pathway to an ultra-efficient city vehicle. Improvements in SHHV fuel economy with reduced emissions strongly depend on their supervisory control strategy. Thermostatic control is simple and reliable but it's cause of frequent engine on-off. Therefore, power follower strategy is presented. In this paper, thermostatic control strategy and power follower strategy is compared for the SHHV model developed using AMESim.

  • In order to improve fuel economy and emissions, many studies of HEV have been conducted. However, most of these studies concentrate on parallel or power-split HEVs. Series-type HEVs have some advantages over parallel and power-split HEVs. One is that the engine is operated at high efficiency since the engine and the driveshaft are decoupled. Nevertheless, the optimization of the powertrain system of series HEV has not been specifically addressed. We conduct an optimization of the generation system of a series HEV based on the series HEV bus. The main objectives are to simulate the system and to compare the fuel economies of conventional and optimized generation systems.

  • Bimodal tram is designed to run on a dedicated path in automatic mode using a magnetic track system in order to realize a combination of the accessibility of a bus and the constant regularity of a railroad. This paper presents design and test results of the series hybrid propulsion system of the bimodal tram on both test track and public road, which uses CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) engine and Lithium polymer battery pack. This paper describes the real-time data measuring equipment for the series hybrid propulsion system of the bimodal tram. Using this measurement equipment, the performance of the prototype vehicle's driving on test track and public road was verified and the fuel consumption and the efficiency of CNG engine have been investigated.

  • A bimodal low-floor tram is designed to provide the flexibility of bus and the punctuality of trains together to the passengers. The propulsion equipment of the bimodal tram is a series hybrid type using a set of CNG engine generator and Li-polymer battery. The present paper describes the specifications of the propulsion system in the bimodal tram which was drawn by a desirable driving cycle. In addition, it shows how the propulsion system of the bimodal tram can be controlled. With using a computer simulation tool of hybrid vehicles, ADVISOR, the performance of the bimodal tram was verified.

  • 본 논문에서는 직렬형 디젤 하이브리드 전기 트럭 구동을 위한 견인 전동기 제어 시스템 개발에 대해 소개한다. 높은 출력 밀도를 요구하는 복합형 전기 차량의 특성을 고려하여 매입형 영구자석 동기전동기를 선정하고, 대전류 고효율 시스템 구성을 위해 수랭식 MCU(Motor Control Unit)를 개발 하였다. 또한 빠른 토크 응답 특성과 넓은 영역의 속도 운전을 위한 약자속 제어 기법을 적용하였으며, 전체 시스템 효율을 향상시키기 위해 단위 전류당 최대 토크 제어 기법(MTPA)이 사용 되었다. 개발 된 제어 시스템 및 제어 기법을 실험을 통해 검증 하였다.

  • The interest in reducing the emissions and increasing the fuel economy of ICE vehicles has prompted research on hybrid vehicles, which come in the series, parallel, and power-split types. This study focuses on the series-type hybrid electric vehicle, which has a simple structure. Because each component of a series hybrid vehicle is larger than the corresponding component of the parallel type, the sizing of the vehicle is very important. This is because the performance may be greater or less than what is required. Thus, in this research, the optimal fuel economy was determined and simulated in a real-world system. The optimal sizing was achieved based on the motor, engine/generator, and battery for 13 cycles, where DP was used. The model was developed using ASCET or a Simulink-Amisim Co-simulation platform on the rapid controller prototype, ES-1000.

  • Military vehicles, compared to conventional vehicles, require higher driving performance, quieter operation, and longer driving distances with minimal fuel supplies. The series hybrid electric vehicle can be driven with no noise and has high initial startup performance, because it uses only a traction motor that has a high startup torque to drive the vehicle. Moreover, the fuel economy can be improved if the vehicle is hybridized. In series hybrid electric vehicles, the electric generation system, which consists of an engine and a generator, supplies electric energy to a battery or traction motor depending on the vehicle driving state and battery state of charge (SOC). The control strategy determines the operation of the generation system. Thus, the fuel economy of the series hybrid electric vehicle relies on the control strategy. In this study, thermostat, power-follower, and combined strategies were compared, and a 37% improvement in the fuel economy was implemented using the combined control strategy suggested in this study.

  • In this research, the effect of the pressure control of cooperative control system with regenerative brake for a military series hybrid-electric vehicle was studied. A cooperative control system with regenerative brake was developed to maximize regenerative energy from electric traction motors of the vehicle. However, the pressure control method of the system was modified to solve a time delay problem and it deteriorates the performance of the system. A Simulink model including the hybrid-electric components, the cooperative control system with regenerative brake, and the vehicle dynamics was developed and used to find a solution. The regenerative energy ratio with respect to the whole brake energy was increased in this research from less than 60 % to over 80 %.

  • There are lots of studies about hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) because of the global warming and energy problems. Series and parallel HEVs are the common types of many developing hybrid vehicle types. Series HEV uses engine only as the generator for the battery but parallel HEV utilizes engine for driving and generating of the vehicle. In this paper, backward simulations based on dynamic programming were conducted for the fuel economy analysis of two different types of hybrid transit buses depending on driving cycles. It is shown that there is a relation between the type of HEV and the characteristics of driving cycles. Regarding the aggressiveness, the series hybrid bus is more efficient than the parallel system on highly aggressive driving cycle. On the other hand, the parallel hybrid bus is more efficient than the series system on low aggressive driving cycle. Based on this results of the paper, it is expected to choose more efficient type of the hybrid buses according to the driving cycle.

  • 병렬형 마일드 HEV(Hybrid Electric Vehicles)는 동력변환과정이 적어 구동계 전체의 효율이 직렬형에 비해 우수하고 다양한 구조를 가질 수 있으며 기존차량에 적용하기 쉽다는 장점이 있으나 구조 및 제어가 복잡하다. 따라서 병렬형 마일드 HEV의 성능을 예측하고 적절한 제어기를 설계하기 위해서는 구성요소의 종류 및 규격과 제어전략에 따른 HEV의 성능을 해석할 수 있는 체계적인 방법이 필요하다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 Simulink 소프트웨어를 이용한 모듈화 모델링에 의하여 병렬형 HEV의 구성요소를 모델링하고 이로부터 병렬형 HEV의 성능해석 및 운전제어전략의 특성을 비교할 수 있도록 한다.
