  • In this study, the shape of the Baramarae beach, Anmyeondo Area in West Coast of Korea and the changes in the sedimentation and erosion environment were analyzed in time series. As a result of the time series analysis of the shape of the Baramarae beach using aerial photographs from 1967 to 2009, the sand spit that developed in the southern part of Halmi Island was found to have had an EEN direction, but it was changed to a NNS direction, as reflected in the 2009 aerial photographs, as it gradually shifted to the west. In the onsite measurement, the H-3, H-4, H-5, and H-6 spots showed a superior sedimentation environment and the H-7, H-8, and H-9 spots showed a superior erosion environment. It was thus found that sedimentation is superior in the southwest beach and that erosion is superior in the northeast beach. The results in the spots between H-3 and H-6 indicate that the sand in the beach could not move to the northeast beach of Halmi Island due to the bank that had been established in the southwest beach of the island. On the other hand, it seems that superior erosion takes place in spots H-7 to H-9 in the northeast beach, where sand is not provided from the southwest beach of Halmi Island. It was found from the seasonal analysis that the season when superior sedimentation takes place in all the spots is autumn, and that the season when superior erosion takes place is summer. Superior sedimentation takes place in winter and spring in the southeast side and in summer in the northwest side.

  • The landforms based on granite and basalt in Gosung, Gangwon province were analysed. Some part of this area experienced volcanic activities while most of the area was experiencing erosion of weathered mantle(saprolites) of mesoic granites during cenozoic period. Two different lithologies affect the mode of landscape evolution. The basalt covers the mountain tops as a 'cap rock' with flat surfaces. It shows relatively fresh rock surface with cliff or steep slops at the boundary with weathered granite. The blocks detached from the cliff accumulated at the foot of the cliff(talus) or moved and filled the valley(block streams). These debris slopes cover the deeply weathered granites. In the case of Oeum Mt. and Duibaekjae, the number of point of origin of the basalt flow is not clear. The orientation of blocks from block stream coincides with slope aspects and it can be assumed that the bolcks were moved by solifluction. The landscape change of the block streams are dominated by removal of weathered material from beneath of the valley rather than removal of bedrock blocks themselves.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the history of phenomenon(hereinafter called mass-movement) of movement of inorganic material originated from hillslope by denudation of hillslope surrounding the watershed during Holocen period in the Chaamgol watershed(hereinafter called study watershed) uppermost stream of Maegokcheon Cheonan-si Chungnam. To do this, for the object of allivium distributed in valley bottom of study watershed, facies analysis, radiocarbon dating and grain size analysis were conducted and geomorphological analysis on study watershed conducted together. The result is like the following. It was confirmed that over around 9,100yrBP~to recent due to a few times of mass-movement occurred in time scale of 102~103 years, a large quantity of inorganic material is mixed in organic material layer originated from wetland formed in valley bottom of study watershed or exists between organic material layers. And it was found that in study watershed, mass-movement occurred in instable period of hillslope after the Early Holocen existed at least 8 times (M1 period~M8 period) and wetland environment formed in the stable period of hill slope existed total 4 times (W1 period~W4 period). This analysis result will be used in the future as basic material in research of Holocen climate change of Maegokcheon watershed and in restoration of denudation process of hillslope following this.

  • This work is to review the granite landforms studies by Korean geographers. It is verified that geomorphlogical characteristics of granite present landscapes characterized by 1) in case of mountains, are difficultly or irregularly weathered, so as to develop rocky forms such as domes, cliffs, and tors ; 2) in case of stream valley that is inter-massif lowland, low relief hills and flood plains with alluvium. All these facts owe to the difference of weathering mode granite properties. The granite hills and alluvial plains of southwestern coastal parts in Korean peninsula is low undulatory and large owing not only to the existence of highly weathered granitic regolith, but also to frequent flooding. Cultivated brownish field, orchard, meadow and forest are located at granite hills. On the other hand paddy rice field at granite alluvial plains. Korean peninsula have endured erodible geomorphlogical processes since Miocene when warping it up. Therefore many intermontane basins are located on the weathered granite areas which are surrounded by mountains composed of much less Precambrian gneiss complex. In fact, intermontane basin is mainly linear fault-line valley. The landforms of the intermontane basins are characterized by gentle piedmont slopes, alluvial fans, fluvial terraces and alluvial plains.

  • Among the changes of the Curriculum from the liberation to the present, the biggest change in the highschool geography course appeared during the period from the Period of Syllabus to the 1st National Curriculum. More specifically, during the 1st National Curriculum the highschool geography course which previously had three subjects, 'Natural Environment and Human Lives', 'Human Geography', 'Economic Geography' was reduced to one subject, 'Human Geography.' In addition, while some contents related with astronomy, geology, and biology had been contained in the physiography course, they were left out from the human geography course of the 1st National Curriculum. This reduction of the geography course was related to the context that earth science was newly established in the 1st National Curriculum. Originally the draft plan released in June, 1953, which was 10 months before the formal time allotment criteria list had been made public, contained 'Physical Geography' instead of 'Earth Science'. What is sorry is that the name of 'Physical Geography' did not remain and was changed to 'Earth Science'. The underlying causes of the crisis the geography education is now facing are the reduction of Physical Geography and the emergence of 'Earth Science' during the 1st National Curriculum. To overcome the present crisis, the subject of geography should be changed more meaningful one based on the comprehensive perspective and academic product that geography has accumulated.

  • This paper describes a dune field on shoreline of Young Gwang. To clarify geomorphic characteristics, made an analysis of grain size of the sand sediments samples and surface texture of quartz grains, and field survey. The following results were obtained : 1) Young Gwang sand dune is taking to pieces by human impact, and dose not move ahead the process of sand dune. 2) there was a turbulence of sand sediments outcrops saying to the cryoturbation that represents cold climatic environments, 3) Constituents of sand dune are mainly fine and very fine sand(2.5~4.5Φ) consisted by quartz and feldspar. Young Gwang sand grians have some analogy with different sites in west coast 4) In surface texture, roundness is thought to have been formed sub-angular, and some V cracks represented mechanical weathering environments. Especially, the dune environment has significant cultural and archaeological values arising from the occupation of human in the past. Those areas where occupation is known provide a valuable source of past records relating to human settlement.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the discharge patterns of Yongnup, Daeam-san. Many hydrographs were analyzed by the types of rising and falling stages, and the slope of those stages with the semi-log graph paper was a key point to distinguish the discharge patterns during rainstorms. The correlation between rainfall intensity and slopes of the second or third rising stage was higher than that between slopes of the first rising stage and rainfall intensity. Also, the coefficient of correlation between discharge decrement and the lapsed time from the peak to inflection point of hydrograph, during high water stages, was better than that during low water stages. The annual average discharge rate of Yongnup was 0.54 and the average direct runoff ratio was 0.14. The total discharge amount from Yongnup was about 410,000 tons for a water year, the monthly maximum amount emerged in September and the minimum amount was occurred in March. In summer, 37.7% was a seasonal maximum runoff ratio; on the other hand, 9.4% was a seasonal minimum runoff ratio in winter.

  • We were to investigate the geomorphological environment of optimum location in the object of Bronze Age's dwelling site (hereinafter called dwelling site) of total of 205 units confirmed in the 'Cheonan Baekseokdong Relic Group' distributed in hill of the uppermost stream part in the watershed of Jangjae stream in Cheonan, Chungnam Province. To do this, we classified the hill of the object of investigation where dwelling sites were distributed as 8 units of slope micro-landforms and again by combining them with the grade of gradient of 5 units subdivided them into ultra-micro-landforms of total 40 units. On the foundation of this, in the viewpoints of 'gradients of each of micro-landforms' analyzed the 'number of dwelling sites' and 'dwelling site distribution density (measure: number of dwelling sites/1000m2) of 'Cheonan Baekseokdong Relic Group'. As the result, the optimum landform environment where the dwelling sites were located were found to be largely 5 units of ultra-micro-landforms - ① flat land of crest flat, ② gentle slope land of crest flat, ③ flat land of crest slope, ④ gentle slope land of crest slope and ⑤ semi-gentle slope land of crest slope. This analyzed material will be used from now on as basic material which can predict the distribution of dwelling sites of Bronze Age men who dwelled in the watershed of Jangjae stream.

  • This is to find out geomorphological environment of optimum location for the object of dwelling site of Bronze Age (hereinafter called dwelling site) of total 177 unit confirmed in Yongducheon basin and Onyangcheon basin (hereinafter called investigation-object basin) in Asan-si Chungnam. To do this, hill of investigation-object basin where dwelling sites were confirmed was divided into 11 units of hillslope geomorphological and this was combined with the grade of 5 units of gradient and again subdivided into total 55 units of micro-landforms of Hillslope. Based on this, in the viewpoint of 'gradient of each of micro-landforms' analyzed 'number of dwelling sites' and 'dwelling site distribution density (unit: number of dwelling sites/1000m2)'. As the result, the optimum geomorphological environment where dwelling sites were located was largely confirmed be 5 units(① semi-gentle slope land of crest slope ②gentle slope land of crest slope ③ slope of upper sideslope ④ flat land of crest slope ⑤ flat land of crest flat). It is thought that this analysis data will be used in the future as basic data for the study of predicting distribution of dwelling sites in Bronze Age which might have been buried in the investigation-object basin.

  • The fluctuation of inundation height due to climate change and sea level rise is expected to cause the socio-economical damage in the coastal zone. To evaluate the inundation damage in Haeundae Beach Area, the inundation height was calculated using the observed data and the range of inundated area and buildings was estimated by applying to DEM data, which was constructed with airborne LiDAR data. The range of inundated area and buildings were estimated with 5 scenario of sea level rise in the condition of minimum and maximum inundation height. When the 181cm, the area of 7.19ha and 5 buildings were expected to be inundated. As 20cm in sea level rises at the minimum of the inundation height, the area of 8.90ha and 8buildings were expected to be inundated. As 30cm, 40cm, 50cm, 60cm in sea level rise, 9.98ha and 9 buildings, 11.11ha and 11buildings, 12.41ha and 11buildings, 14.18ha and 14buildings were expected to be inundated, respectively. When the 526 cm, the area of 32.35ha and 42buildings were expected to be inundated. As 20cm, 30cm, 40cm, 50cm, 60cm in sea level rise at the maximum of the inundation height, 38.94ha and 47buildings, 42.46ha and 52buildings, 45.76ha and 58buildings, 49.51ha and 66buildings, 52.53ha and 72buildings were expected to be inundated, respectively. The leisure and industry facilities, socio-economical installation, habitation are located near by the estimated inundation area, then the inundation damage is expected to be greater scale.
