In this study, seismic performance tests for 500 kV EBA are conducted through the IEEE Std. 693. It is hard to conduct both the static tests and dynamic tests for 500 kV EBA as IEEE Std. 693 because the size of specimen, 9 m in height, is too large to be examined. To do so, it can cause the unnecessary time and cost, and also the damage on the specimen. However, in this study, both static tests and dynamic tests are conducted in the same test field as IEEE Std. 693 to achieve more accurate and reliable test results. From the test results Taihan Electric Wire Co. can win contract for 500 kV extra-high voltage project in the U.S.A., therefore it can be evaluated that the tests are conducted successfully and the capability to estimate large electric power facilities are achieved as IEEE Std. 693.

The main research content of this paper is to evaluate the structural integrity and the cooling performance of 4250 kVA power transformer with ONAN(Oil Natural and Air Natural) mode. The dynamic analysis is used to verify the structural safety of the transformer by seismic loading. The transformer structure is simplified and NX software is used to build a three-dimensional model, and ANSYS commercial software is used to calculate the stress and deformation by applying corresponding load. The analysis result was evaluated whether it satisfies the design requirements according to the IEEE Std 693 standard. In terms of thermal analysis to evaluate the cooling performance, the thermal physical model is used to calculate the heat exchange between the radiator and the tank in the steady state, and the result is input into the Fluent software to calculate the internal temperature field of the transformer tank, which reduces the calculation cost of thermal fluid. Comparing the simulated hot spot temperature and top oil temperature of the transformer with the calculation results of the IEC60076 classic model, it is found that the error is only 1.9%.

High-rise buildings are equipped with TMD (Tuned Mass Damper), a vibration control device that ensure the stability and usability of the building. In this study, the seismic response control performance was evaluated by selecting the design variables of the TMD based on the installation location of the twisted irregular building. To this end, we selected analysis models of 60, 80, and 100 floors with a twist angle of 1 degree per floor, and performed time history analysis by applying historical seismic loads and resonant harmonic loads. The total mass ratio of TMDs was set to 1.0%, and the distributed installation locations of TMDs were selected through mode analysis. The analysis results showed that the top-floor displacement responses of all analysis models increased, but the maximum story drift ratio decreased. In order to secure the seismic response control performance by distributed installation of TMDs in twisted irregular buildings, it is judged that the mass ratio distribution of TMDs will act as a key variable.

As earthquakes have frequently happened all over the world, huge losses of human life and property have occurred. Therefore, retrofitting and strengthen technologies of non-seismically designed structures in Korea are urgent. Also, there has been a growing interest about seismic retrofitting, where researches on the topic have been actively pursued in Korea. The study results showed that ductility inducing retrofitting method is more superior stiffness inducing method. In Japan, Super Reinforcement with Flexibility (SRF) was introduced. Therefore, in this study, seismic performance evaluation was performed through pseudo dynamic test and uniaxial compression test for RC column retrofitted by PolyUrea for ductility inducing retrofitting material. Uniaxial compression test results showed that strength of all specimens retrofitted by PolyUrea was higher than that of RC specimens. Also, all specimens retrofitted by PolyUrea also showed ductile fracture behavior. In pseudo dynamic test, by appling real earthquake record, the seismic behavior of RC column reinforced by PolyUrea was evaluated through relative displacement, reinforcement strain, displacement ductility, and dissipation energy. The results showed that PolyUrea helped to enhance seismic performance of RC columns.
In the 1994 Northridge earthquake, connection damage initiated from the beam bottom flange was prevalent. The presence of a concrete slab and resulting composite action was speculated as one of the critical causes of the prevalent bottom flange fracture. In this study, four seismic retrofit schemes are proposed in order to salvage welded steel moment connections with composite floor slabs in existing steel moment frames. Because top flange modification of existing beams is not feasible due to the presence of a concrete floor slab, three schemes of bottom flange modification by using welded triangular or straight haunches or RBS(reduced beam section), and beam web strengthening by attaching heavy shear tab were cyclically tested and analyzed. Test results of this study show that haunch and web-strengthened specimens can eliminate the detrimental effect caused by composite action and ensure excellent connection plastic rotation exceeding 5% rad. Design recommendations for each retrofit scheme together with supplemental numerical studies are also presented.

Recently, as the magnitude and frequency of earthquakes increases, research is needed to increase the ductility of the columns in order to prevent the collapse of structures. In this study, to evaluate the performance of columns reinforced with continuous transverse reinforcing bars, the FE model for the dynamic analysis of structures reinforced with continuous transverse reinforcing bars for circular and rectangular columns is to be verified using the results of uniaxial compression experiments in the previous study. As a result, the experimental value of the column reinforced with continuous transverse reinforcement and the result value related to the dynamic analysis showed similar behavior, and the reliability was high. As a result of the analysis, the usability of the rectangular column reinforced with continuous lateral reinforcing bars was confirmed because the dissipated energy performance of the columns reinforced with spiral reinforcing bars was higher than that of the columns reinforced with band reinforcing bars.
Purpose: After analyzing the seismic capability of low-rise RC grid structures with insufficient seismic performance, the purpose of the project is to install steel slab hysteretic dampers (SSHD) to improve the seismic performance of beams and columns, and to suggest measures to minimize damage to the structure and human damage when an earthquake occurs. Method: The evaluation of the seismic performance of a structure is reviewed based on the assumption that the seismic performance is identified for the grid-type subway systems that are not designed to be seismic resistant and the installation of an SSHD system, a method that minimizes construction period, if insufficient, is required. Result: After the application and reinforce of structure with SSHD, and the results of eigenvalue analysis are as follows. The natural periodicity of longitudinal direction was 0.55s and that of vertical direction was 0.58s. Conclusion: As results of cyclic load test of structure with SSHD, the shear rigidity of damper is 101%, the energy dissipation rate is 108% and, plastic rotation angle of all column and beam is satisfied for $I_o$ level and therefore it is judged that the reinforce effect is sufficient.

In this paper the moment transfer efficiency of a web and the strain concentration at the RHS (Rectangular Hollow Section) column-to-steel beam connections was evaluated. Initially, non-linear finite element analysis of five bare steel beam models was conducted. The models were designed to have different detail at their beam-to-column connection, so that the flexural moment capacity was different respectively. Analysis results showed that the moment transfer efficiency of the analytical model with RHS-column was poor when comparing to model with WF(Wide Flnage)-column due to out-of-plane deformation of the RHS-column flange. The presence of scallop and thin plate of RHS column was also a reason of the decrease of moment transfer efficiency, which would result in a potential fracture of the steel beam-to-column connections. Analytical results were compared with the previous experimental results. The analytical and the previous experimental results showed that the strain concentration was inversely proportional to the moment transfer efficiency of a beam web and the deformation capacity of connection was poor as their moment transfer efficiency degrades. Further finite element analyses of composite beam with a floor slab revealed that the neutral axis moved toward the top flange and the moment transfer efficiency of a beam web decreased, which led to premature failure of the connection.

In a performance-based design, the structural safety is estimated from pre-defined damage states and corresponding damage indices. Both damage states and damage indices are well defined for above-ground structures, but very limited studies have been performed on underground structures. In this study, we define the damage states and damage indices of a cut-and-cover box tunnel which is one of typical structures used in metro systems, under a seismic excitation from a series of inelastic frame analyses. Three damage states are defined in terms of the number of plastic hinges that develop within the structure. The damage index is defined as the ratio of the elastic moment to the yield moment. Through use of the proposed index, the inelastic behavior and failure mechanism of box tunnels can be simulated and predicted through elastic analysis. In addition, the damage indices are linked to free-field shear strains. Because the free-field shear strain can be easily calculated from a 1D site response analysis, the proposed method can be readily used in practice. Further studies are needed to determine the range of shear strains and associated uncertainties for various types of tunnels and site profiles. However, the inter-linked platform of damage state - damage index - shear wave velocity - shear strain provides a novel approach for estimating the inelastic response of tunnels, and can be widely used in practice for seismic designs.

To resolve the conservative requirements for clear headed-bar spacing in KBC 2016 and ACI 318-08, two 2/3-scale exterior beam-column connections were tested under cyclic seismic loading. The seismic tests primarily explored the effect on their seismic performance of using (a) small clear spacings and (b) multiple layers of headed reinforcements in the beam. Also, the previous test data were thoroughly analyzed. It was concluded that the clear bar spacing of 2db or the use of two bar layers might be permitted for headed reinforcements embedded in exterior beam-column connections.
