Climate Change during the recent 10 years in Korea (한반도 최근 10년 기후특성)

  • 우리나라는 지난 94년간 1.5도 상승하여 전지구 온난화추세를 상회하였다. 기온뿐만 아니라 강수량 역시 변화하였는데 변동폭이 크기는 하나 장기적으로 증가하는 경향으로 20세기초에 비해 상대적으로 기온이 높고 강수량도 많은 특성을 보인다. 평균적인 기후변화추이와 더불어 특히 최근 10년($1996{\sim}2005$년)은 1850년 이후 지구평균기온이 가장 높았던 기간으로, 세계적으로 열파, 홍수, 가뭄, 태풍 등 기상이변에 의한 인명과 재산 피해, 생물종의 멸종 등 사회경제적 피해가 막대하였다. 우리나라 역시 폭염, 호우등의 빈번한 출현으로 급격해지는 온난화추세 영향을 반영하였는데 이러한 기후 변화양상을 파악하기 위하여 우리나라의 최근 10년간 기후 특성과 계절별 현상일수의 변화를 분석하였다. 최근 10년(1996-2005년) 우리나라 기후변화의 특성을 보면 우리나라(15개 관측지점자료)는 평균기온이 과거 30년$(1971{\sim}2000)$ 평균대비 $0.6^{\circ}C$ 상승하였다. 계절별로 봄은 평년대비 $0.7^{\circ}C$, 여름은 $0.4^{\circ}C$, 가을은 $0.6^{\circ}C$, 겨울은 $0.7^{\circ}C$ 상승하여 봄과 겨울의 상승폭이 가장 크다. 연강수량은 30년 평균대비 최근 10년 강수량은 11% 증가하였고 특히 여름은 증가폭이 가장 커서 18% 증가하였다. 계절에 따라 다양한 기상현상의 변화도 나타났다. 3월 이후에 나타나는 늦서리의 종료일은 평균적으로 3월 말경에 나타났는데 최근 10년에는 3월 중순으로 2주 앞당겨졌고 이 추세는 특히 1993년 이후 뚜렷하다. 늦서리의 발생일수도 평균 4일 정도 줄었다. 일평균기온 $20^{\circ}C$이상인 날은 평년에 비해 최근 10년 동안 약 2일 증가하여 여름 시작시기가 빨라지고 있음을 알 수 있다. 일최저기온이 25도 이상인 열대야는 평년대비 최근 10년간 연간발생일수가 1.3일 증가하였으나 일최고기온 $35^{\circ}C$ 이상인 날의 수는 오히려 감소하는 경향을 보인다. 이것은 여름철 강수량이 증가하고, 호우발생빈도, 특히 8월의 강수일수가 증가하고 있다는 것과 밀접한 관련이 있다. 여름과 가을에 우리나라에 영향을 미치는 태풍의 수는 뚜렷한 추세를 보이지 않으나, 2002년 루사, 2003년 매미로 인하여 각각 6조원, 4조원 이상의 막대한 피해가 발생하였다. 태풍에 의한 피해액은 GDP 대비 약 0.9%(태풍 루사)로 최근 경제상장률과 비교해 보면, 상당한 비율을 차지한다. 우리나라에 영향을 미치는 태풍은 연근해의 해수면 온도가 높아지면 세기가 강해질 가능성이 높다. 폭설과 한파일수도 평년대비 최근 10년 감소하였고 일최저기온이 영하 $10^{\circ}C$ 이하인 날도 연간 발생일수가 감소하였다. 최근 10년간 우리나라 기후의 변화특성은 기온상승과 더불어 서리종료일이 앞당겨지고 열대야가 증가하고 폭설, 한파, 겨울철 일최저기온 영하 10도 이하인 날의 감소 등이 나타나고, 여름철 재해의 원인인 호우일수는 증가하는 추세이다. 앞으로 지구온난화는 가속화될 것으로 전망되고 이로 인한 피해규모도 커질 것으로 예상된다. 최근 우리나라에서 나타나는 기후변화의 추이를 감안할 때, 기후변화에 대한 장기적인 대비책을 마련하여 이로 인한 부정적인 영향을 감소시키기 위하여 국가차원의 체계적인 대응이 필요하다.

Organophosphorus Pesticide Residues in Major Enviromental Components of Nakdong River (낙동강(洛東江) 주요(主要) 환경(環境) 구성분중(構成分中) 유기인계(有機燐系) 농약잔류분(農藥殘留分))

  • Waters, sediments and crucian carps samples collected bimonthly from Nakdong river during- the period of August 1982 to June 1983 were analyzed for organophosphorus pesticide residues by GLC equipped with a flame photometric detector. Among the environmental samples, IBP, diazinon, phenthoate, parathion, malathion and fenitrothion residues were found only in waters and crucian carps and sediments samples were devoid of the residues. In addition, seasonal variations of the residues in waters and crucian carps were observed. Waters and crucian carps samples collected in August, when pesticides are generally in great demand, contained all the organophosphorus pesticide residues while no organophosphorus were detected in waters and crucian carps samples collected in February, April or December. The most abundant residues in the two environmental samples were diazinon and IBP and residue levels of parathion, malathion and fenitrothion were found extremely low.

Analysis on the contamination and source of VOCs in groundwaters of Gwangju area (광주광역시의 지하수 중 휘발성유기화합물(VOCs)의 오염과 오염원 분석)

  • VOCs were detected in the 21 groundwaters out of 37 groundwaters sampled from around the Hanam Industrial Complex and the Gwangju stream. Ten components of chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons of VOCs were detected in the 18 groundwater samples. Among them, total trihalomethanes (TTHM) concentration is in the range of $0.1~36.2{\;}\mu\textrm{g}/L$, CECs concentration is $2.3~190{\;}\mu\textrm{g}/L$, and chlorinated solvents concentration containing PCE, TCE, etc. is $0.1~124.2{\;}\mu\textrm{g}/L$ respectively. Ten components of the aromatic hydrocarbons of VOCs were detected in the 5 groundwater samples, but their concentration are less than $1{\;}\mu\textrm{g}/L$. Detection frequency and concentration of the chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons components from the groundwaters in the Hanam Industrial Complex are higher than those of nearby downtown Gwangju stream. VOCs components except for TCE are lower than the MCL of USGS drinking water standard. TCE concentration of the 2 groundwater samples is over MCL, whose concentrations are 5 and 25 times higher than MCL, respectively. TCE is detected from the H8 and H10 groundwater samples and CFCs is detected H8 and H11 groundwater samples in the Hanam Industrial Complex. TTHM in study area is estimated from leakage of the main waters or sewage waters. Because most of the studied groundwater is under an aerobic condition, aromatic hydrocarbons are well degraded. But chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons are degraded very slowly.

  • This study aims to understand the patterns of spatial distribution of snowfall by Siberian High in the Honam region in Korea. In the Honam region, Siberian High induces snowfall dominantly. There is a huge amount of snowfall in the westward of the Noryung mountain ranges to the Wert coast in the Honam region affected by northwesterly wind directly from the Siberian High. The westward of the Noryung mountain ranges such as a heavy snowfall region has a various pattern of distribution of snowfall due to topography. The coast region has a large amount of snowfall by sea effect. And, snowfall amount is decreased from the coast to the inland plain. However, in front of mountain, snowfall is increase by reason of a forced ascending air to the mountain. In general the region where frequently appear a cumuliform cloud has a large amount of snowfall. A cumuliform cloud is frequent in the mountainous region in inland, the coast, and the inland plain in order Snowfall is intense in the coast and the mountainous region, and weak in the inland plain. In the mountainous region, a cumuliform cloud induced tv a forced ascending air by reason of topography generates snowfall mostly. This fact is the main difference with snowfall in the mountainous region and the coast region. In the result, in the Honam region, snowfall distribution and snowfall pattern are various, according to geographical climate factor such as sea and topography. The heavy snowfall region in the Honam region is divided into the coast region affected by sea effect and the mountainous region affected by topography effect.

Water level prediction in Taehwa River basin using deep learning model based on DNN and LSTM (DNN 및 LSTM 기반 딥러닝 모형을 활용한 태화강 유역의 수위 예측)

  • Recently, the magnitude and frequency of extreme heavy rains and localized heavy rains have increased due to abnormal climate, which caused increased flood damage in river basin. As a result, the nonlinearity of the hydrological system of rivers or basins is increasing, and there is a limitation in that the lead time is insufficient to predict the water level using the existing physical-based hydrological model. This study predicted the water level at Ulsan (Taehwagyo) with a lead time of 0, 1, 2, 3, 6, 12 hours by applying deep learning techniques based on Deep Neural Network (DNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and evaluated the prediction accuracy. As a result, DNN model using the sliding window concept showed the highest accuracy with a correlation coefficient of 0.97 and RMSE of 0.82 m. If deep learning-based water level prediction using a DNN model is performed in the future, high prediction accuracy and sufficient lead time can be secured than water level prediction using existing physical-based hydrological models.

Isolation and Identification of Ampicillin-resistant Bacteria in Changwon (창원근교에서의 ampicillin 내성세균의 분리 및 동정)

  • The number of antibiotic-resistant bacteria is increasing rapidly while the discovery rate of new antibiotics is in decline. A systematic study is therefore necessary to investigate which bacteria are resistant to medically important antibiotics and how high that resistance is. To that end, this study aimed to analyze which bacteria demonstrated resistance to ampicillin, one of the currently most-widely used medical antibiotics. Water samples were collected from the Changwon-Cheon that runs through Changwon City and from the pond in front of the dormitory building at Changwon University. Hundreds of ampicillin-resistant colonies were obtained and 22 morphologically distinct examples were chosen for further study. These bacteria were identified by amplifying their 16S rRNA genes and comparing those sequences with data in GenBank. The bacteria was identified as belonging to 10 families, 12 genera, and 17 species, and all were able to grow in the presence of $50{\mu}g/ml$ ampicillin while seven showed growth at ampicillin concentrations as high as 1.5 mg/ml.

A study on environmental flow release through flood control reservoir (담양·화순 홍수조절지 환경대응용수 활용방안 연구)

  • 담양 및 화순 홍수조절지는 홍수 시 본류에 계획방류량만 흘러가도록 제수문을 운영하고, 계획방류량을 초과하는 홍수량은 하도 및 조절지 내에 저류하여 홍수를 지체시킨 후 저류된 홍수량은 첨두홍수가 지나간 이후 방류하는 방법으로 영산강 유역의 홍수를 방어하기 위해 '12년 건설되었다. 그러나 홍수조절지는 200년 빈도의 홍수량을 저감 시키도록 설계됨에 따라 준공 이후 10년간 '20년 8월 홍수 등 3회만 홍수방어용으로 활용되었다. 영산강은 오염부하량 대비 유출량 부족 등으로 수질관리에 취약하고 하천유지용수를 공급하는 다목적댐이 없는 등 수자원 확보가 어려우므로, 비홍수기 홍수조절지에 환경대응용수를 담수 및 방류하여 영산강의 유량확보 및 수질개선 등 활용 다변화 방안을 모색하고자 한다. 이와 관련하여 '16년 및 '19년에 시범담수를 실시하였으나, 담수 수질 관리의 어려움, 방류 전후 강우 등 제한적 여건으로 인해 하류 유량증가 및 수질 개선 효과의 확인은 어려웠으며, 제방 물비침 등을 발견하여 시설 안정성 확보가 필요한 것으로 확인되었다. '21년 안정성 확보를 위한 보강 그라우팅을 시행했으며, '19년부터 '21년 2월까지 「홍수조절지를 활용한 영산강 수질개선 방안」연구용역을 실시하여, 비홍수기 활용방안을 수립하였다. '21년 4/4분기 댐과 보 등의 연계운영협의회에 '시범담수 계획' 안건 상정 및 의결을 거쳤고, '22년 3월 25~26일까지 담양 74mm, 화순 61mm 비가 내려 담양 63만m3, 화순 151만m3를 담수하고 18~19일간 저류 후 담양은 평균 3.0m3/초로 25시간 동안, 화순은 평균 5.0m3/초로 32시간 동안 하류로 방류하였다. 방류 후 담양·화순 모두 가까운 하류 수위국 수위 상승을 확인했으며, 화순의 경우 하류 수질에 일부 영향이 있음을 확인하였다. 다만, 초기유출수 배제 등을 고려하지 않아 담수의 수질이 본류보다 좋지 않았으며, 이에 따라 수질 영향의 인과관계 확인이 어려웠다. 기존 연구용역에서 제시한 비홍수기 활용방안의 검증·보완을 위한 연구용역이 '22.5월부터 '23.12월까지 진행될 예정이며, 초기유출수 배제를 위한 조건 재수립, 수질 모니터링지점 확대 등 보완된 '시범담수 계획'을 '23.3월 댐과 보 등의 연계운영협의회에 보고하였다. 연말까지 연구용역과 연계한 시범담수·방류 시행 및 모니터링·효과분석을 통해 비홍수기 홍수조절지 최적운영방안을 마련할 계획이다.

Ecological health assessments using fish communities in the habitat of Manchurian trout (열목어 서식지의 어류군집을 이용한 생태적 건강성 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to conduct ecological health assessments by using the fish communities in the Manchurian trout habitat. Sampling was conducted twice in July and September 2018. In the survey, 1,119 individuals belonging to 16 species and seven families were collected. The dominant species by number was Rhynchocypris kumgangensis and the subdominant species was Zacco koreanus. Korean endemic species represented 73.33% at Geybang Stream and 76.92% at Naerin Stream. Community analysis revealed that the structure of the fish community was unstable by the dominance index 0.63 (±0.09)-0.97 (±0.01), the diversity index 1.63 (±0.23)-0.33 (±0.09), the evenness index 0.79 (±0.06)-0.24 (±0.07) and the richness index 0.67 (±0.14)-1.80(±0.16). According to the analysis of the tolerance guilds, the total individual number of sensitive species was higher than the intermediate and tolerant species. The insectivore species accounted for 65.09-98.56% of the total trophic guilds, which was the highest observed. The value of the QHEI (Qualitative habitat evaluation index) in the Brachymystax lenok tsinlingensis habitat was 119.5 (±0.5)-153.5 (±0.5), indicating an optimal-suboptimal condition. The FAI (Fish assessment index) stream health value was A to B in the study sites. Correlation analysis with FAI and various factors was conducted and a high correlation in QHEI, Brachymystax lenok tsinlingensis individuals, species, individuals, diversity, richness, sensitive species, carnivorous species, insectivorous species, and omnivorous species was found. The similarity analysis was divided into three groups from A to C, based on 56.9%.

Analysis of Fire Occurrence Characteristics According to Ignition Heat Sources (발화열원에 따른 화재발생 특성 분석)

  • Purpose: In this study, the characteristics of fire occurrence according to ignition heat sources such as operating equipment, cigarette/lighter fire, and flame/fire were analyzed. Method: One-way ANOVA and cross-analysis were used to analyze the characteristics of fire occurrence by verifying the difference between the ignition environment, fire damage status and scale, and cause of ignition according to the ignition heat source. Result: The fire occurrence characteristics were analyzed through As a result of the analysis, it was found that fires caused by operating devices occurred more frequently on weekdays than other ignition heat sources, and the number of victims and the number of victims were the highest, so mobilization of firefighting power and property damage were the greatest. The initial ignition was generated by electric and electronic devices, and the combustion was expanded by the synthetic resin. For fires caused by cigarette and lighter fires, the most fires occurred on Saturdays and Sundays, and the mobilization of the police force was more characteristic than the mobilization of the firefighting force. In particular, it was found that the initial ignition and combustion expansion were caused by paper, wood, and hay. Fires caused by sparks and sparks occurred most frequently on Saturdays and Sundays, and initial ignition and combustion expansion were found to be caused by paper, wood, and hay. In particular, it showed the characteristic that it occurred in the place farthest from the fire station. The common characteristic of all ignition heat sources was that the fire occurred most frequently in the afternoon time, and the fire type was predominantly the building structure fire, and only the ignition point was burned the most. Conclusion: In order to prevent fire and minimize damage, it is necessary to analyze the tendency of fire occurrence and to prepare appropriate preparations according to the fire occurrence factors. In order to analyze the characteristics of fire occurrence using public data in the future, it is necessary to standardize disaster data and to open and activate data.

Mineralogical Characteristics of the Lower Choseon Supergroup in the Weondong Area (원동지역 하부 조선누층군의 광물학적 특성)

  • This study determined mineralogical characteristics and discussed the meaning of mineralogical changes of the lower Choseon Supergrouop in the Weondong area based on the field geological investigation and the drilling core description using X-ray diffraction (XRD) mineral quantification and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) observation. 100 samples with depth were collected from the core (250 m long) at a site in the study area. Especially, to investigate the changes from the upper Daegi Formation to the lower Hwajeol Formation, the samples were collected closely with the interval of about 0.3 m at this section. All samples were made into power using mortar for XRD. Mineral quantitative analysis was executed using Relative Intensity Ratio (RIR) method with corundum as an internal standard phase. Calcite, $2M_1$ illite and quartz are main constituents in most of samples. Dolomite and siderite are significantly observed in the Sesong Formation. As the results of quantitative analysis for the major minerals, the upper Daegi Formation is dominated by calcite with over 80%. The Sesong Formation includes high percentage of dolomite and siderite with the intercalation of thin layers containing high calcite and $2M_1$ illite contents. Hwajeol Formation is characterized by the alternation between thin layers of $2M_1$ illite and quartz-dominated layer (IQDL) and calcite-dominated layer (CDL). IQDL is more frequent in the lower part, whereas CDL is more common in the upper part. The boundary between Daegi Formation and the Sesong Formation is distinct, whereas the boundary between the Sesong Formation and the Hwajeol Formation tends to be changed gradually in mineralogy. The result of SEM observation shows that quartz and $2M_1$ illite are detrital, and a significant amount of calcite also shows detrital form with some recrystallized one, indicating that the repeated influx of terrestrial materials had changed the mineralogy of the shallow sea depositional environment in the early Paleozoic era.
