  • Hyperspectral images have emerged as a new and promising remote sensing data that can overcome the limitations of existing optical image data. This study was designed to provide a comprehensive review on definition, data processing methods, and applications of hyperspectral data. Various types of airborne, spaceborne, and field hyperspectral image sensors were surveyed from the available literatures and internet search. To understand the current status of hyperspectral remote sensing technology and research development, we collected several hundreds research papers from international journals (IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, International Journal of Remote Sensing, Remote Sensing of Environment and AVIRIS Workshop Proceedings), and categorized them by sensor types, data processing techniques, and applications. Although several hyperspectral sensors have been developing, AVIRIS has been a primary data source that the most hyperspectral remote sensing researches were relied on. Since hyperspectral data have very large data volume with many spectral bands, several data processing techniques that are particularly oriented to hyperspectral data have been developed. Although atmospheric correction, spectral mixture analysis, and spectral feature extraction are among those processing techniques, they are still in experimental stage and need further refinement until the fully operational adaptation. Geology and mineral exploration were major application in early stage of hyperspectral sensing because of the distinct spectral features of rock and minerals that could be easily observed with hyperspectral data. The applications of hyperspectral sensing have been expanding to vegetation, water resources, and military areas where the multispectral sensing was not very effective to extract necessary information.

  • This study suggests a novel approach of estimating stream flow discharge using the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images taken from 2015 to 2017 by European Space Agency Sentinel-1 satellite. Fifteen small to medium sized rivers in the Han River basin were selected as study area, and the SAR satellite images and flow data from water level and flow observation system operated by the Korea Institute of Hydrological Survey were used for model construction. First, we apply the histogram matching technique to 12 SAR images that have undergone various preprocessing processes for error correction to make the brightness distribution of the images the same. Then, the flow estimation model was constructed by deriving the relationship between the area of the stream water body extracted using the threshold classification method and the in-situ flow data. As a result, we could construct a power function type flow estimation model at the fourteen study areas except for one station. The minimum, the mean, and the maximum coefficient of determination ($R^2$) of the models of at fourteen study areas were 0.30, 0.80, and 0.99, respectively.

  • Hoseonmu belongs to the genre of a composite of song, music, and dance. At that time, there was no widely known record of Hoseonmu in Baekje, but it is clear that it was popular enough to be invited to Changan by Emperor Yang of Sui. The musical instruments, songs, and dances were analyzed through the research method of literature and the content of the Hoseonmu version was established. The setting of the stage for the performance of Baekje instrumental music reveals its characteristics through sabangak from Gigaku in the neighboring countries. The stage for Hoseonmu was set up utilizing the creation of the imperial performance stage in the Baekje instrumental music. In particular, Hoseonmu has two types: heavenly and earthly. The heavenly Hoseonmu can be found on the wall of the Cave No. 220 formed in the Chodang (618-707) era. They include Dongbang Pharmacopoeia jingbian and Western Paradise jingbian. Hoseonmu would have chosen to be the fast-paced spinning dance. Motions for Hoseonmu could be set up through them. Meanwhile, Mimaji's instrumental dance is presented. Six dancers appear in two turns of the performance. Four dancers in front row and other two in the back are dressed up as hunters, wearing goblin masks, and holding flowering plum tree branches in their right hands. Through this, the movements and costumes of Hoseonmu are reproduced in more detail. Various sectors of education, theater, dance, and tourism in the Hoseonmu contents of Baekje instrumental music contributed to the Korean Wave.

  • To elucidate the pattern of nutrient absorption and endosperm consumption as the seedling age of rice, Dongjinbyeo was raised in the seedling box with different nitrogen levels. Absorption of nitrogen and phosphorus were high in the order of artificial seed bed soil, sand with N-1g /box and sand without N from 3 and 5 days after seeding but, potassium wasn't significantly different between sand+N-1g /box and sand. Endosperm consumption rate was high in the order of artificial seed bed soil, sand + N-1g /box and sand but, endosperm dependence rate (endosperm consumption /top dry weight) was vice versa. Seedling height and dry weight were higher in the order of artificial seed bed soil, sand+N-1g /box and sand from 3 days after seeding, number of leaves were more from 5 days after seeding in same order.

Recently, drones have been used as a major means of attack drones in major wars around the world, and it seems likely that they will evolve into game changers in the future. In the major wars of the 21century, attack drones are used for precision fire-guided or self-destruct attacks, For the purpose of cognitive warfare, its territory is expanding not only to land and air, but also to sea and water. These attack drones will perform multi-domain operations, and for this purpose, the level of autonomy will be improved and High-Low Mix We will continue to develop by strengthening concept-based scalability. North Korea has also been making considerable efforts to operate attack drones for a long time, and activities such as third-country-level self-explosive drones, artificial intelligence-based clustered self-explosive drones, and self-destructive stealth unmanned semi-submersible are expected. In addition to North Korea's provocations and attacks, it is hoped that there will be a need for active follow-up research on our military's countermeasures and utilization plans.

  • This study was conducted to assess effect of thiacloprid fogging on non-target insect communities in Korean white pine forests. In addition, we assessed effect of thiacloprid fogging on mortality of Monochamus saltuarius as a vector of pine wood nematodes, and Apis mellifera as a non-target species. We compared abundance, species richness, and compostion of insects, and mortality of two insects among four treatment groups (control and thiacloprid-fogged groups with 3 different doses) located in the Kangwon National University Forest. For sampling of insects, 6 pitfall and 2 multi-funnel traps and 3 waterproof cloth sheets were placed in each study plot. In addition, M. saltuarius and A. mellifera were put into each meshed cage which installed at 7 m and 15 m heights in center of each study plot. Thiacloprid was fogged only once (middle May) in each plot using a fogging machine. Overall, thiacloprid fogging was appeared to be low toxicity to the abundance, species richness, and compostion of insects and mortality of A. mellifera, while it seems effectively impact on the mortality of M. saltuarius. However, thiacloprid fogging seems more influenced by microclimates in forests because the mortality of M. saltuarius in mesh cages was different according to heights and spatial locations. To control the population density and dispersal of M. saltuarius using by fogging techniques, therefore, it may be necessary to minimize the uncertainty about the effectiveness of thiacloprid fogging by improving the fogging techniques.

  • Pepper plants were water-logged at 0, 5, 10 and 15 cm at transplanting and flowering stages under the condition of greenhouse. Treatment of water-logging times were 6, 12, 24, 48 and 120 hours. The results obtained are summarized as follows. At the transplanting stage, plant height, number of leaves, shoot and root fresh weight decreased by water-logging at 0cm for 24 hours and at 5cm or more for 6 hours. Number of fallen leaf was negligible by 12 hours water-logging at 0cm, however, its increased by more increased the water-logging depth and time. Diffusion resistance and chlorophyll content of leaf, and root activity decreased at more than 24 hours of water-logging regardless of the water-logging depth treatments. Photosynthesis and respiration rate diminished by increased the water-logging depth at 120 hours water-logging treatment. Plant diseases, mainly anthracnose(Colletotrichum) occurred in proportion to increase the depth and time of water-logging. It was not possible to control the diseases by fungicides. At the treatment of foliar spray of urea for recovery to water-logging damage, the efficiency was not found on plant height, but the number of leaves. Number of fruit and weight of fruit per plant showed no difference from no water-logging to 24 hours water-logging at 0cm, but its decreased that more than 24 hours water-logging at 0cm and more than 6 hours water-logging at 5cm or more. The averaged weight of a fruit on survival plants increased by more hours and deeper water-logging. There was positive correlation between all the investigated characteristics of growth and yield. There was, however, negative correlation between the characteristics and diffusion resistance of leaf stomata. The correlation between number of fallen leaf and averaged weight of a fruit was not significant. At flowering stage, number of fruit and weight of fruit per plant showed a similar tendency to no water-logging and by 12 hours water-logging at 0cm and 5cm, but significantly decreased at more than 24 hours water-logging from 0 to 5cm, and more than 6 hours water-logging at 10cm or more. The averaged weight of a fruit on survival plants increased by more hours and deeper water-logging except for 120 hours water-logging at all water depths.

  • A biopolymer based on microorganism-derived β-glucan and xanthan gum is being studied as a new eco-friendly material that stabilizes the riverbank slope, and also promotes vegetation growth. However, it is still inconclusive whether biopolymers have a positive effect on plant performance in the riverbanks which are subjected to various climatic factors and plant competitions. For a practical ecological evaluation of the biopolymers, their effect on plant growth promotion was studied in a natural environment. Considering the relationship between competition and plant community formation, the effects of biopolymers on competition were also investigated. For four plant species (Echinochloa crus-galli, Pennisetum alopecuroides, Leonurus japonicus, and Coreopsis lanceolata), the biopolymer effects under intra/interspecific competition were tested at the riverbank (20 m × 10 m) near Samjigyo Bridge in Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do. A biopolymer powder was mixed with water and commercial soil following the manufacturer's recommendations. The soil mixed with the biopolymer was filled in a pot or applied to the surface of the commercial soil with a thickness of 3 cm. Across the competition treatments, the biopolymer treatment promoted root growth of the target plant species and decreased the specific leaf area. The total biomass and shoot dry weight of P. alopecuroides increased in response to the biopolymer treatment. The competition treatment decreased the total biomass and shoot dry weight compared to the case without competition. Notably, such a competitive effect was similar in all the biopolymer treatments. Thus, biopolymers, when mixed with soil, promote the growth of some plant species, but do not appear to affect the competitive ability of plants.

  • This study was carried out to examine the effect of rice bran, barley bran, burned rice bran, and burned barley bran on the growth and yield of Chinese chive (Allium tuberosum Rottler), taro (Colocasia esculenta), and weed control. When the above 4 brans were examined 13, 27, 41 and 57 days respectively after application, the plant height of Chinese chive applied with burned barley bran was significantly higher than non-treated control, whereas the other brans did not have any distinct effect on the plant height or population number of Chinese chive. However, when examined 57 days after the application of the above 4 brans, all the plants applied with brans showed more than twice the improvement in shoot fresh weight compared with non-treated control. A chemical analysis of soil 57 days after the application of the above 4 brans showed that the soils were richer in available phosphate and organic matter. Shoot fresh weight of Chinese chive at 2 weeks after cutting was significantly higher in barely bran treated plot than in non-treated plot. In the case of taro, only taro plots transplanted when 10 cm tall and applied with barley bran showed an improvement in growth increment of both the underground and above parts. However, when sowed seeds after the application of the 4 brans, the yield of taro was reduced by the brans. Thus this research indicates that the effect of brans is differ based on the amount of bran application as well as crops. The effect of weed control on Echinochloa crus-galli, Digitaria clliaris, Chenopodium album, and Solanum nigrum as affected by brans was very low in pot conditions. Weed efficacy of the brans was also very low in field conditions. Growth of Chinese cabbage and garland chrysanthemum was inhibited 63% and 37% by rice bran at $4,000kg\;ha^{-1}$, respectively, but other crops such as maize, squash, cucumber, and Chinese chive were inhibited by 0-20%. These results were similar to that of barley bran except for Chinese cabbage.

  • The protection of space asset has been new major cause of space militarization. For such purpose, it has been officially announced that a policy of deterring and denying any adversaries from accessing the outer space. Space militarization is to be conversed into a new concept of space weaponization. The USA has announced its policy of space weaponization, while China and Russia have not revealed their plan or policy. Latter States, however, have proposed a draft treaty limiting the deployment of warfare in the outer space. The terms of the Outer Space Treaty, reflecting three significant United Nations General Assembly resolutions from the 1960s, support the position that ground rules must be observed in the exploration and the use of outer space, particularly in the absence of specific space law rules. Yet the combination (and culmination) of these two approaches to the legal regulation of outer space-specific rules as and when agreed by the international community and the translation of principles developed for terrestrial regulation to outer space-still leaves much room for uncertainty and exploitation for military and strategic purposes. As space weaponization may contribute to deterring the use of weapon, it may be not against the UN Charter Article 2(4). If space weaponization might generate the space debris such that the outer space is no more available for exploration and use, it is against the proportionality principle and discrimination principle enshrined in the laws of the war. But, if the limitation upon the kind and use of space weaponization is agreed among the States, then the space weaponization may not be against the laws of the war, and be considered permissible within the rationale of limited war.
