  • This study investigates the factors affecting Korean consumers' willingness to pay (WTP) for domestic and organic agricultural, livestock, and processed food products. The findings reveal that obesity status, drinking frequency, and dining out frequency positively influence WTP for both domestic and organic products across all categories, while higher personal income, a convenience-seeking lifestyle, and the tendency to make shopping lists have a negative effect. The factors influencing WTP for organic products differ partially based on the country of origin, with dining out expenditure, disease symptoms, purchase of processed foods, and avoidance of risky foods show different impacts between domestic and imported organic products. The category- specific analysis shows that the perceived nutritional value of domestic products significantly affects WTP, except for livestock products. Safety certification preference has a mixed impact, lowering WTP for domestic agricultural and livestock products but increasing it for domestic organic livestock and processed foods. These results provide valuable insights for developing segmentation and differentiation strategies in the domestic agricultural market.

  • Customer Experience Management (CEM) appeared as a complementary solution to overcome CRM limitations. CEM enhances profitability through building long-term relations with customers by understanding their experiences. This study aims at investigating the impact of customer experience quality on the willingness to pay more through customer satisfaction in the hotel businesses. The survey for this study was carried out on customers who had domestic hotel experience s within the last 6 months. Out of the 306 questionnaires retrieved, 225 valid responses were used for the empirical analysis that utilizied the statistical package programs SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0. The research findings may be summarized as follows. First, as an outcome of the research hypothesis that each component of customer experience management would influence satisfaction, 'the peace of mind' & 'the moment of truth' were shown to have a significantly positive (+) impact on it. On the other hand, 'the product experience' was shown not to significantly influence it in a positive (+) way. Second, as an outcome of the research hypothesis that satisfaction would influence willingness to pay more. From the findings of the study, theoretical implications are as follows. It can be predicted that customer experience management will likely make customers more profitable because customers are willing to pay more with a sense of loyalty built through satisfaction of the hotel industry. In the practical implications, the dimension of experience quality examined by the study can be used as an index to measure and manage customer experience in the hotel industry.

  • Real-time bus arrival information within the Bus Information System (BIS) is an invaluable resource for users that demand accurate and up-to-date bus headway information while waiting at a bus stop. The associated benefits of such a system come in two folds, that is to 1) resolve the psychological uncertainty caused by the lack of real-time bus arrival information and 2) empower the user waiting at bus stops with the ability to reliably coordinate various tasks and errands, such as a quick trip into a convenience store or restroom without fear of missing a bus pick-up. This paper discusses the appropriate methodology with which to measure the economic value of reliable bus arrival information, with particular emphasis on the psychological uncertainty in users associated with the lack of real-time headway information at bus stops. Data regarding bus transit users' willingness to pay for such a service is obtained through questionnaire surveys, and the Contingent Valuation Method is used to analyze and derive the associated economic value. Our findings indicate the monetary value associated with a real-time bus arrival information system is approximately 132.5 won/min at the 0.3 significance level.

  • This study estimates the willingness-to-pay (WTP) for avoiding the destruction of a first-grade ecological area by means of contingent valuation method. Specifically, we employ the dichotomous choice technique along with the follow-up questionnaires. Our analysis implies the yearly WTP per household for avoiding the destruction of the ecological area of 100,000 pyongs is 8,898 won with the 95% confidence interval of 6,611~11,976 won. We estimate the asset value of that area to be 1,707 billion won with the 95% confidence interval of 1,269 to 2,298 billion won. We also decompose the total value of the area into the value of direct (22%) and indirect (38.8%) use, the option value (19.9%) and the conservation value (21.3%). Although using these data for SEEA (the system of integrated environmental economic accounting) is bound by certain restrictions, one could employ our empirical findings as advisory information for decision making in the process of prior environmental review or for assessing the environmental impact.

  • The current study attempted to assess the environmental value of Geum-river estuary for rational management decision-making. To investigate the comprehensive properties of the Geum-river estuary, we applied the contingent valuation method based on multi-attribute utility theory. We surveyed a randomly selected sample of 400 and 600 households of the Geum-river estuary-neighboring area (Jeollabuk-do, Chungcheongnam-do), and other nation-wide large districts (except Jeollabuk-do, Chungcheongnam-do, and Jeju-do), respectively, and carried out person-to-person interviews with subjects on their willingness-to-pay for the estuary conservation and management program. Respondents, overall, accepted the contingent market system and were willing to contribute a significant amount, that is 1,497 won for the residents from the Geum-river estuary-neighboring area and 4,343 won for the residents from other nation-wide large districts on average, per household per year. These results implied that there were large difference between the two groups. The aggregate values of the Geum-river estuary for the estuary-neighboring area and other nation-wide large districts amount to 2.13 and 70.15 billion won, respectively, per year. This quantitative value deduced from the current study, could be a useful baseline fact for any decision-making process particularly in the establishment of management policies for the Geum-river estuary.

  • This paper attempts to measure the environmental value of the Seomjin-River estuary that has been comparatively well conserved but is confronted with the threat of its development. Especially, in order to elicit the environmental values of its four attributes, contingent valuation method(CVM) based on multi-attribute utility theory is applied and the CVM survey was rigorously designed to comply with the guidelines. for best-practiced CVM studies. We surveyed a randomly selected sample of 300 and 350 households in the Seomjin-River estuary-neighboring area(Gwangyang, Sooncheon, Yeosu, Hadong, Namhae) and seven large cities(Seoul, Busan, Incheon, Daegu, Daejeon, Gwangju, Ulsan), respectively and asked respondents questions in person-to-person interviews about what they would willing to pay for the estuary conservation and management program. Respondents overall accepted the contingent market and were willing to contribute a significant amount(5,763 won in the Seomjin-River estuary-neighboring area and 1,883 won in seven large cities), on average, per household per year, which implies that there is a large difference between the two. The aggregate values of the Seomjin-River estuary in the estuary-neighboring area and seven large cities amount to 1.52 and 14.05 billion won, respectively, per year. The quantitative values can be utilized in planning and decision-making about development versus conservation of the estuary.

  • This study proposes a new answering mechanism of deciding whether to purchase or not under uncertainty-real risk answering mechanism (R-RAM) for real transaction and hypothetical risk answering mechanism (H-RAM). It IS also. shown that the traditional answering mechanism (TAM) assumed in most of existing contingent valuation methods should be applied in a real transaction without uncertainty. While the willingness to pay (WTP) being simply compared with the bidding price m TAM, the mean of WTP should be greater than the bidding pnce at least by the risk premium for a purchase decision m R-RAM and H-RAM. Only difference between R-RAM and H-RAM is risk premium. The H-RAM takes a smaller risk premium than the R-RAM. This study proposes the contingent valuation method (CVM) with H-RAM could be an alternative to reducing the under-or over-estimation of WTP by comparing the WTP estimates obtained from three different CVMs with TAM, R-RAM and H-RAM.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate the appropriate Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) fare for bus users upon introduction of the system, which is to improve ridership on economically non-profitable routes and to conform to the mobility right of those living in presently non-serviced rural areas. For this, a stated preference (SP) survey was adopted to assess respondents' preferences regarding DRT introduction, while the contingent valuation method (CVM) was used to calculate their willingness to pay (WTP) for DRT services. The analysis results show that, compared to the existing bus services with a 1,000 won bus fare, the value of DRT is considered to be 38.85%, 31.03% and 30.12% higher in terms of overall assessment, usability and convenience, respectively. The results of this study are expected to facilitate the decision making aimed at setting the appropriate DRT fare and implementing a DRT system that meets sustainability requirements.

  • This paper takes a close look at technology related services of e-Commerce companies from the viewpoint of B2C customers. The goal is to determine at which specific points of the customer purchase journey changes should occur, to address consumers' personal needs more effectively. All ten technologies examined fall into one of the following steps of the customer purchase journey: Decision Making, Payment Methods, and Delivery. AHP was utilized to clarify the preferences of millennials from Germany and Korea. The findings show that factors such as country of origin and gender had an impact on the preferences of the survey participants. In case of Germany, women replied that a change in Payment Methods would lead to significant enhancement of their shopping experiences, whereas men favored Decision Making. As for Korea, both genders stated that Decision Making should be the focus of marketers' efforts. One of the main findings was that participants from Germany and Korea exhibited different tastes in the use of technologies. Germans preferred functional technologies, whereas Koreans favored technologies which are more engaging and entertaining.
