A study on the psychosocial changing process of upper grade students expelled from local private university (지방사립대 남학생들의 학업중단과정에 대한 질적 연구: 고학년 제적학생을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the psychosocial changing process of upper grade students expelled from local private university. For this purpose, interview were conducted with 15 students. The collected data were analyzed using a Grounded Theory. As a result, 183 concepts, 54 sub categories, and 18 essential categories were derived. The results of the process analysis showed that the process of psychosocial changing is composed of seven steps Find a sense of belonging', 'Find fun', 'Stop thinking', 'Experience the (outside) world', 'Career decision', 'Immersion', 'Finish the course'. The results of this study were compared with previous researches, and the newly discovered points and future research topics and points to be considered in local private university field were discussed.

A Study on the Instructional Model utilizing Scratch for Introductory Programming Classes of SW-Major Students (SW전공자 프로그래밍 입문 수업의 스크래치 활용 수업 모형 연구)

  • The programming language is a core education area of software that is becoming increasingly important in the age of the fourth industrial revolution, but it requires mathematical knowledge and logical thinking skills, so that many local private university and college students with low basic skills are having difficulties learning it. This problem occasionally causes SW-major students to lose interest and confidence in their majors during the introductory course of programming languages; making them change their majors, or give up their studies. In this study, we designed an instructional model using Scratch for educating C-language which is a typical programming introductory language. To do this, we analyzed the concepts that can be trained by Scratch among the programming concepts supported by C-language, and developed the examples of Scratch for exercising the concepts. In addition, we designed an instructional model, by which the programming concepts are first learned through Scratch and then C-language is taught, and conducted an experiment on the SW-major freshman students of a local private university to verify the effectiveness of the model. In the situation where SW education is becoming common, we expect that this study will help programming language education of security IT students.

Survey and Analysis of the Present State of Education in Regard to the Accreditation in Engineering Education (공학인증 관련 지방 사립 대학교 공학 교육 현황 조사와 분석)

  • In recent years, most domestic colleges of engineering are continuously trying to enhance the quality of education in engineering so as to meet the international requirement of education standards of this era. In consequence, the colleges are willing to acquire the accreditation of education by the ABEEK (Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea) so that they can find the right way for the education of engineering and establish concrete educational programs in engineering. In this contribution, we exemplify a case of the College of Engineering in Mokwon University to survey and analyze the current state of education in engineering. We adopt the AS-IS and TO-BE analysis model to assess the system and try to figure out the right way for custom-designed education. The analysis helps understanding of the current situation of local private universities and consequently be used as important data for acquiring the engineering accreditation for global standard.

An Analysis of the Factors Affecting Local University Students' Halting Their Academic Studies and Satisfaction with Their Campus Life (지방대학생들의 학업중단 영향요인과 대학생활만족도 분석)

  • This study was aimed to obtain basic data with the intention of lowering the motives of local university students' halting their studies through an analysis of the factors affecting their academic interruption and satisfaction with their campus life. The result of this study is as following. First, it was found that the factors affecting their academic interruption included social variables, sense of self-respect, educational services, home environment, personal interest, academic abilities and so on. It was noted that the factors of personal interest and self-respect had the most significant effects on their academic interruption, statistically. Second, it was shown that the factors such as self-respect, educational services and personal interest had significant effects statistically on satisfaction with their campus life. Third, it turned out that there were significant differences in satisfaction with their campus life between those who considered halting their studies and those who did not. Therefore, concrete efforts at the university level should be put into practice to enhance students' self-respect for and satisfaction with their universities.

An Analysis of the Determinants of Employment and Wage of New College Graduates (신규대졸자의 취업 및 임금수준 결정요인 분석)

  • This study examines the determinants of employment and wage of new college graduates by using Youth Panel Data(2003-2005) of the Work Information Center, and seeks assignments for mitigating unemployment and wage disparities of new college graduates. Results are summarized as follows. First, an analysis of the determinants of employment shows that the Kyunggi Inchon district in school locations, higher school records, and qualification certificates positively affect the employment rate, while the private college group in the non-capital area negatively affects the employment rate. Second, an analysis of determinants of standard employment demonstrates that the Kyunggi Inchon district in school locations, higher school records, qualification certificates, and the major group of medical science, pharmacy, nursing science and health science, and the major group of education positively affect the employment rate, while the private college group in the non-capital area, the junior college groups in the capital and non-capital areas negatively affect the employment rate. Third, an analysis of determinants of nonstandard employment shows that the junior college graduation in scholarly attainments, the junior college groups in the capital and non-capital areas positively affect the employment rate, while the private college group in the non-capital area negatively affects the employment rate. Fourth, an analysis of the determinants of wages demonstrates that male in sex, the older in ages, the major group of medical science, pharmacy, nursing science and health science, and the major group of education positively affect the wages, while nonstandard employment, Kyunggi Inchon and Cholla districts in school locations negatively affect the wages. These results suggest several implications. First, college education should be reformed to cultivate professional manpower who are required by industries. Second, alternative measures to mitigate sex discrimination in labor markets should be prepared. Third, the process of attaining qualification certificates should be reformed in order that it is actually connected to the abilities of work performances and the improvement of productivity. Fourth, a locally balanced development must be realized through the decentralization of industries. Fifth a systematic and comprehensive program need to be prepared to promote the employment of new college graduates.

A Study on the EPL using Instructional Model of SW Major's Programming Class (EPL 기반의 SW전공자를 위한 프로그래밍 수업 모형에 관한 연구)

This difficulty occasionally causes SW major students to lose interest and confidence in their major during the introductory course of a programming language; making them change their majors, or give up their studies. In this study, we designed an instructional model using Scratch for educating C language which is a typical programming introductory language. To do this, we analyzed the concepts that can be trained by Scratch among the programming concepts supported by C language, and developed the examples of Scratch for exercising the concepts. The instructional model supports the progress model of learning first the programming concepts through Scratch and then expand the learning content into C language. We also conducted an experiment on the SW major freshman students of a local private university to verify the effectiveness of the model.

A Study on the Gap Between University Academic Information Resource Using Gini Coefficient (지니계수를 활용한 대학도서관 학술정보자원 격차 연구)

  • This study uses Gini coefficient to index the inequality of academic information resource among universities to identify the areas where the gap is extremely severe, and analyzes the Gini coefficient over time for 10 years to show how the gap is changing. In addition, the degree and characteristics of the gap appearing by type of universities such as metropolitan universities, local national universities, private universities, and colleges were also compared. As a result, first, the university library academic information infrastructure showed a severe level of disparity (0.6 - 0.9), and the inequality was more severe in serials, electronic resources, and reference service. Even when the relative Gini coefficient was calculated considering the number of students, the inequality was over 0.4 in serial etc. Second, the Gini coefficient trend over the last decade shows that the inequality has decreased toward equality in the re-education time of employees and electronic information resources, but not in other sectors. Third, it was found that special universities and universities in the metropolitan area showed a large gap between universities of the same kind, and local national universities showed the best gap level as well as the best academic information infrastructure.

A Study on Correlation between Work Environment Factors and Job Satisfaction of Librarians Working in Different Types of Libraries (관종별 도서관 사서의 직무환경요인과 직무만족도의 상관성 연구)

  • In this study, libraries of national and public universities, libraries of private universities, libraries of colleges, public libraries of local governments were selected to measure, compare and analyze the differences in job satisfaction of librarians working in different types of libraries. As for measurement items, 10 factors for job satisfaction were chosen. In doing so, this researcher compared and analyzed the overall job satisfaction and work satisfaction, employment satisfaction, satisfaction with promotion system, satisfaction with work distribution, satisfaction with payment system, satisfaction with service system, satisfaction with facility environment, satisfaction with educational training, satisfaction with welfare system, and satisfaction with personal relations. The results of the analysis on job satisfaction with each factor by librarians working in different types of libraries are presented as follows. First, the overall job satisfaction value of the librarians was 3.940, which means relatively high satisfaction, and in terms of a type of library, libraries of private universities showed the highest value, and the next ones were found to be libraries of colleges, public libraries and libraries of national and public libraries. Secondly, regarding the ranking of the overall satisfaction with the selected 10 job satisfaction factors by different types of libraries, educational training was found to rank the highest, and the next ones were surveyed to be the job, the service system, the personal relations, the employment system, the work distribution, the facility environment, the payment system, the welfare system, and the promotion system.
