Spatial analysis of financial activities in the Korean urban system (한국 금융의 공간적 특색에 관한 연구)

  • This paper focuses on the geographical pattern of financial activities in the Korean urban system during 1975-1990, based on the assumption that financial activities can reveal control points in Korea's urban economy. In terms of spatial evolution of financial insitutions, different locational characteristics are revealed among different types of financial institutions, implying the role of urban hierarchy. Financial resources are highly concentrated in the capital region, Seoul and Kyonggi Province. Both centralization trends into the large metropolitan cities and relative declines of medium and small cities within the Korean urban system, have been experienced over the study period. Financial activities sustain relatively stable hierarchical structure in the urban hierarchy. Regarding the financial flows, dominant flow zones centered on major metropolitan cities are identified, clearly showing a prominant role of Seoul in financial flows in the entire urban system.

Examining Access Mode Choice Behavior of Local Metropolitan High-Speed Rail Station - A Case Study of Dong-Daegu Station - (고속철도 지방대도시 정차역의 연계교통수단 선택모형 구축에 관한 연구 - 동대구역을 사례로 -)

  • This study aimed to analyze access mode choice behavior for KTX Passengers. To fulfill the aims of this study, Dong-Daegu Station was selected as a station for a case study. This study takes place in two stages. These are (i) descriptive statistical analysis of transportation status before and after introduction of the KTX, (ii) empirical model estimation for analyzing access mode choice behavior. This study makes use of the data from travel survey from Daegu metropolitan area. The main part of the survey was carried out in the KTX Dong-Daegu station. The data was collected from a sample of 1,800 individuals. The survey data includes the information on travel from Dong-Daegu station to Seoul. From descriptive statistical analysis of transportation status before and after introduction of the KTX, it is found that revealed demand of the KTX is lower than that expected. Moreover, it is found that the low demand of the KTX stems from high cost for the KTX itself and inconvenience( including travel time and cost) of access mode. In order to analyze mode choice behavior for accessing Dong-Daegu station, multinomial logit model structure is used. For the model specification, a variety of behavioral assumptions about the factors which affect the access mode choice, were considered. From the empirical model estimation, it si found that access travel time and access travel cost are significant in choosing access mode. Given the empirical evidence, we see that improvement of access transportation system for Dong-Daegu station is very important for enhancing the use of KTX.

An Interpretation of a Social Implication on the Transition of the Urban Park in Daegu (대구 도시공원의 변천에 나타난 사회적 의미 해석)

  • This study was done for analyzing processes on the planning and opening of chronological urban parks in Daegu City since the 1960s, and for interpreting the social meaning on changes of the urban parks with regards to historical circumstances during that period. In the 1960s, urban parks, which were recognized as one of urban planning facilities, were only designated for creating rather than created, although nationally several laws including urban planning act and park act were newly legislated. Rapid urbanization and increasing population in the 1970s led to create many urban parks. However, the policy for increasing parks had been not successful because of the lack of enough funds. In the 1980s, multi-purpose urban parks including stable area as well as active facilities were created for getting several attractions to urban residents. During this period, urban parks were recognized on an aesthetic perspective through vegetating plans on the city-beautiful movement for hosting consecutive international games. The citizen participation in urban parks and the increasing concern about urban environment were started in the 1990s, and the people living in an urban area were interested in the quantitative expansion and qualified renovation of the urban parks as well. Finally, modernistic urban parks were first introduced in the late period of Chosun Dynasty, however their substantial introduction was done in the 1960s. Through this study, the concept of an urban park as a public resting place for citizen in Daegu was thought to be mostly established in the 1990s as we have investigated on the social meaning derived from the periodical changes of urban parks.

  • The old city centers of local metropolitans have lost their functions as CBD in korea. Those old city centers have an only role as a gate connected to the new CBD. This study aims to present regeneration stratigies of old city centers through Osaka case study. This research has been focused on the physical and environmental factors in urban regeneration. There are 4 strategies for old city centers. First, the strategy to attract people to the old city centers is high-density and mixed-use development having functions like shopping, entertainment, residence. This kind of development makes local metropolitan cities compact cities to protect urban sprawl. Second, strategy to give old city centers an identity is to conserve traditional culture and structures and to revitalize retail market. Third is to make pedestrian-friendly street system. Osaka ism't pedestrian friendly but remodelling the connect the pedestrian path to the culture facilities. Fourth is to have water and green environment. Green space is the strong factor that pull people to old city centers.

The Analysis of Regional Characteristics of the Aging Population in Korea (한국 인구고령화의 지역적 특성 분석)

  • This paper investigates both the spatial patterns of aging population and its formal regional structure in 2010. The results are as follows: first, aging index shows high values in remote mountainous and coastal regions while showing relatively low values in Capital Region and large provincial cities. Aging index has low negative correlation with such variables as population increasing rate, ratio of youth population, ratio of apartments, and ratio of newly built housing. However, aging index shows high positive correlation with variables including ratio of single unit house, ratio of aged peoples' house ownerships, ratio of welfare recipients, ratio of old housing, and number of public healthcare facilities. Secondly, four factors are identified from factor analysis including aging factor, welfare factor, economic vitality factor, and new town factor. The aging level of a region is negatively related to the strong level of those factors. Thirdly, cluster analysis results in four different types of formal regions including rural mountainous coastal type, rural non-capital region type, large metropolitan type, and provincial industrial city type.

Relationship between the creation of a child-friendly city and children's regional satisfaction, living satisfaction, and happiness

  • The purpose of this study is to present policy implications for the efficiency of child-friendly city creation through an empirical analysis of the relationship between variables related to the effectiveness of child-friendly city creation and the creation of child-friendly city. For this purpose, the difference between before and after the certification of child-friendly cities was analyzed for children of local governments certified as child-friendly cities. According to the analysis, the factors in the six major areas of child-friendly city creation do not significantly affect children's regional satisfaction, living satisfaction, and happiness. Based on these analysis results, the necessity of creating a child-friendly city and the direction related to the creation of a child-friendly city were presented. We also present the limitations of our research and future research challenges.

  • Recent development booms in urban watersheds have increased impermeable areas and brought about an increase of peak flood. Eventually, some people living in the lower area of an urban watershed, very often and seriously, have suffered form inundation. In this study, for minimization of inundation in urban watersheds, the operational criteria for pump stations are suggested. At first, ILLUDAS has been selected as a runoff model which can explain the past precipitations. Secondly the operational criteria for pump stations could be suggested by working out an operational criteria for pump stations could be suggested by working out an operation program from the relationship between pumping capacity and accumulative hydrographs, and from the Intensity-Duration-Frequency relationship.

현상설계경기 - 부산 사하구 신청사

  • 부산시 사하구에서는 발전하는 경제추세와 지방화시대에 발맞추어 2천년대 서부산의 중추기능을 수행하는 낙동강권의 중심도시로 지역사회가 원하는 공공시설을 수용하고 지역의 Land Mark로서 구청의 이미지를 부각시키는 등 대민봉사의 질향상과 구민편의를 제공코자 신청사 건립 현상설계 경기를 실시했다. 이 설계경기에서는 총 11개 작품이 제출되어 심사한 결과 일신설계(정태복)안이 당선작으로 선정됐으며, 우수작으로는 신도시 설계감리(박찬실)안이, 가작으로는 부원종합건축(정성규)안이 각각 선정됐다. 본지에서는 이번 현상설계 경기의 심사과정, 심사평과 함께 당선작과 우수작을 게재한다.
