  • We conducted the airborne magnetic and radiometric survey for the characterization of the black shale related and pyrometamorphic uranium deposits distributed in Geumsan area. For the successful characterization of the uranium deposits, the general geological and structural geological features were investigated based on the lithological and linear feature analysis to individual magnetic and radiometric data as the first step. Lithological analysis from the magnetic reduction to the pole and downward continuation map revealed that prominent positive anomalies caused by black and dark gray slate member were clearly recognized as magnetic sources. These results indicate that magnetic survey, even though it is not a direct method for the detection of uranium, can be a useful tool in uranium detection. By the linear feature analysis based on 2nd vertical derivative and curvature map, two linearments corresponded the gray hornfels and black slate member were extracted and in succession, the additional uranium potential zone was inferred. Final discrimination whether uranium-rich or not was confirmed by radiometric and uranium anomaly map. From these analysis, we finally concluded that uranium deposit originated by pyrometamorphic process was confined near the intrusive area only. On the contrary, it was found that black shale related uranium deposit is distributed and extended through out the entire survey area with south-west to north-east direction. In addition, from the linear feature analysis based on radiometric total anomaly map, the typical discontinuous characteristics were recognized in areas where uranium-contained linearments cross the faults. From the above discussion, we concluded that airborne magnetic and radiometric survey are complementary to each other. So it is preferable to carry out simultaneously for the efficient data processing and fruitful interpretation.

  • In this case study, we present the various and consistent processing techniques for the reasonable interpretation of aeromagnetic data. In the processing stage, we especially focused on the three major respects. First, in the low latitude area, severe artifacts are occurred as a result of reduction to the pole technique. To overcome this problem, variable alternative methods were investigated. From the comparison of each technique, we concluded that energy balancing method gives more fruitful result. Second, because of limited a priori information, it is nearly impossible to employ detailed geological survey due to wide and thick spreading of soils in the survey area. So we especially investigated the new techniques such as extracting slope, curvature and aspect information mainly used in GIS field as well as conventional methods. Finally, by using the Euler deconvolution, we extracted the depth information on the magnetic anomalous body. From the synthetic analysis between depth information and previous discussed results, the detailed future survey area was proposed. We think that a series of processing techniques discussed in this study may perform an important role in the domestic and abroad resource development project as a useful guideline.

  • As a part of trying to get the resistivity values correctly from laboratory core resistivity measurement, the effect of sample holders in resistivity measurement was analyzed and a better way to determine the representative resistivity value from the time series resistivity data was searched. Modified GS type and modified two-electrode type sample holders were devised and their effects have been compared with those of GS and two-electrode type sample holders. The modified two-electrode type sample holder has benefits both in repetition and simplicity in data acquisition. The analysis of distribution trend of the time series resistivity data obtained with different kind of sample holders and source frequencies shows that the maximum curvature point method gives the best result in determining representative resistivity value.

  • In this paper, we proposed the geolocation method using target detection information in infrared images. Our method was applied to geolocation system of hostile targets in ground-to-ground field. The major distortion that has bad effect of geolocation was composed of optic, topography, GPS(Global Positioning System) and IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit) of reconnaissance unit. We proposed enhanced geolocation method to cope with optic and topography distortion using polynomial fitting and slant-range calculation model to overcome earth curvature problem, and the result showed that the performance of our method was good for system requirements.

  • In this paper, analyzed of UAVs operation altitude and range from the point of view of the data link. UAVs operation altitude is determined by the specification of the mission equipment and operational purposes. The link-of-sight analysis of data link equipment before deciding the unmanned aircraft operation altitude conditions should be considered. If GDT=0m installation then 32dBi antenna apply 15,779 meter is operation altitude. 44dBi antenna 7,927 meters. Operating altitude perspective, high-gain antenna is recommended of the long range communication.

  • The purpose of this paper is design and implement the invisible depth analysis tools. The developed algorithm was basically used reference plan method and to remove first step errors we mix-used point-to-point method. and we consider error due to curvature and refraction for large scale analysis. The final algorithm was developed as ArcToolBox tools, which can be considered convenient and public use as well; as result it reduced experimental errors as compared with conventional method and makes possible high resolution analysis for large scale site.

  • Gravity data were analyzed to identify the cause of clustered seismicity that occurred intensively in Yeoncheon, located in the central part of the Korean Peninsula. Our analysis suggests that the En echelon faults developed in the northwest-southeast direction. In addition, in the eastern part of the Dongducheon Fault, it was interpreted that high-density lower bedrock intermittently lifts close to the surface due to vertical tectonic movement accompanied by a flower structure. The fracture zone of the Dongducheon Fault is estimated that the width is about 200 m, the depth is at least 5 km, and the density is about 15% lower than the adjacent rocks. It is analyzed that the shallow earthquakes that occurred within 5 km depth was concentrated along the low-density En echelon fault fracture zone developed between the high-density rocks intruding close to the surface. Therefore, the earthquakes can be interpreted as the result that the north-south stress caused by the dextral tectonic movement of the Dongducheon Fault activated the En echelon fault in the northwest-southeast direction.

  • In order to estimate the vertical and horizontal structural in the Yangsan fault core line (Naengsuri area, Pohang), we carried out gravity field measurements and interpretation procedures such as Euler deconvolution method and curvature analysis in addition to the forward modelling technique (i.e. IGMAS+). We found a prominent gravity difference of more than 1.5 mGal across the fault core. This indicates a distinct density difference between the western and eastern crustal area across the Yangsan fault line. Comparing this gravity field interpretation with other existent geologic and geophysical survey data (e.g. LiDAR, trenching, electric resistivity measurements), It is concluded that (1) the prominent gravity difference is caused by the density difference of about 0.1 g/㎤ between the Bulguksa Granite in the west and the Cretaceous Sandstone in the east side, (2) the fault core is elongated vertically into a depth of about 2,000 meters and extended horizontally 3,000 meters to the NNE direction from Naengsuri area. Our results present that the gravity field method is a very effective tool to estimate a three -dimensional image of the active fault core.
