The data was analyzed by the SPSS/PC+ program using frequency & percentage, item mean & standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA & Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation coefficient. The results of this study was as follows: 1) The item mean score of quality of life was $6.05{\pm}1.16$ (range 0-10). The highest score of subarea of the quality of life was the spiritual wellbeing area ($7.09{\pm}1.63$) and the lowest score was social wellbeing area ($5.53{\pm}1.65$). The mean score of perceived social support was $52.65{\pm}10.32$ (최저 1, 최고 80). The mean score of family support was $32.71{\pm}6.66$ (range 1-40) and the mean score of medical team support was $19.93{\pm}5.95$ (range 1-40). The mean score of Hope was $37.02{\pm}5.64$ (range 1-48). 2) There were statistically significant difference in the score of quality of life according to the life effect of religion(F=3.97, p=0.00), treatment method(F=2.94, p=0.01), area of diagnosis(F= 3.48, p=0.01), stage of disease (F=13.74, p=0.00). 3) There was significant correlation between perceived social support(r=0.44, p=0.000 ; family support ; r=0.334, p=0.000, medical support; r=0.395, p=0.000), hope(r=0.563, p=0.000) and quality of life. In conclusion, there was a significant relationship among perceived social support, hope and quality of life. Therefore perceived social support, hope intervention programs should be developed to improve the quality of life in cancer patients.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation of social support and aggression of early adolescents. The subject were 220 adolescents aged 11 & 14 years, who were enrolled 11 child welfare facilities or 6 public schools(3 elementary & 3 middle schools) in Seoul. That is, 110 institutionalized(IA) & 110 middle class home-reared adolescent (HA)s were examined. They subjects were asked to complete the questionnaire on social support and aggression. According to the results, 1)IAs perceived less support from peers or adults and showed more aggressive behaviors than HAs. 2)Significant sex difference was observed in aggression. Girls showed lower level of aggression than boys. 3)Adolescents' aggression was significantly correlated with social support. The more support from friends, classmates, and parents HAs perceive, the less aggression they reported. Though support from peers was correlated significantly only with anger expression, support from parents was correlated significantly with all the components of aggression. And the more support from friends and classmates HAs perceive, the less aggression they reported. These findings implicate that social support is a important factor in preventing aggressive behaviors of early adolescents.

The subjects were 257 kindergarten and child care teachers. The data were analyzed by Path Analysis, Multiple Regression(using SPSS 15.0 and Amos 6.0). Major findings were as follows: (1) The self-efficacy was significantly associated with organizational commitment of kindergarten and child care teachers. And social support was significantly associated with organizational commitment of kindergarten and child care teachers. (2) The self-efficacy was significantly associated with social support of kindergarten and child care teachers (3) The self-efficacy was not significantly associated with organizational commitment of kindergarten and child care teachers, controlled by social support. That result showed the social support was more important variable affecting organizational commitment of kindergarten and child care teachers than the self-efficacy.
This study identified which aspects of perceived social support influence children's internalizing problems. The participants were 91 children from divorced families and 87 children from non-divorced families. They completed a questionnaire assessing the level of perceived social support and their teacher rated their internalizing problems(withdrawal, depression/anxiety) on K-CBCL scale. Sixth graders from non-divorced families perceived evaluative support higher than sixth graders from divorced families. In withdrawal, third graders from divorced families were rated higher than preschooler and sixth graders by their teacher. In depression/anxiety, third graders from divorced families were rated higher than sixth graders by their teacher. Internalizing problems of children from divorced families were affected by their perceived emotional support. Namely, children from divorced families who perceived less emotional support experienced more withdrawal and depression/anxiety.
Media reports of suicides has been found to increase suicide cases that were temporally and spacially proximal to the reports, but the psychological mechanisms, social learning, underlying the negative effects was not directly tested. The present study examined the cognitive processes of social learning that media reports of suicides, especially positive contents toward suicides, might change people's perception, memory, and attitudes toward suicides positively and subsequently increase subsequent suicide intentions and behaviors. Through an internet survey, 300 adults reported their perception, memory, and attitudes toward news reports of suicides, and rated whether the suicides were described positively or negatively in the reports. Finally they reported their suicide intentions and behaviors. The results revealed that people tended to remember more the contents of suicide reports suggested to increase copycat suicides. Also, people were found to have an ironic view to suicide reports of media that they acknowledged the dangers of suicides reports and approached the reports with curiosity. More importantly, the perception of the positive reward that suicides might achieved through suicides was related with positive attitudes toward suicides and behavioral intention to suicides. The present findings was discussed in the social learning understanding of copycat suicides and their implications for suicide-prevention strategies.
The purpose of the study was to identify the latent classes of meta-awareness of gender discrimination among Korean young adults using Latent Profile Analysis based on 'perceived ambivalence toward men among women', 'perceived ambivalent sexism among men', 'perceived gender(reverse-) discrimination in Korea'. After identifying the latent classes, the difference between gender role conflict, sense of distance from the opposite sex, and support for gender discrimination issues were explored among the classified groups. As a result, 3 latent classes among women and 2 latent classes among men were identified. Latent classes among women were named 'women with low sensitivity of sexism', 'women with high sensitivity of sexism' and 'women against sexism' and latent classes among men were named 'men with perception of gender equality', 'men with perception of reverse discrimination'. Types with higher levels of meta-awareness of gender discrimination were related with higher gender role conflict and higher sense of distance from the opposite sex. Among women, types with higher levels of meta-awareness of gender discrimination perceived higher levels of gender discrimination and showed more support for gender discrimination issues while among men, types with higher levels of meta-perception of gender discrimination only perceived higher levels of reverse discrimination. Based on the present findings, implications about the severe gender conflict among Korean young adults are further discussed in the article.
This study was designed to construct a model that predicts the health promoting behavior of the Korean elderly. Data were collected by self-reported questionaires from 254 Korean elderly in seoul, from June 1 to July 15, 1998. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and correlational analysis using pc-SAS program. The Linear Structural Modeling(LISREL) 8.0 program was used to find the best fit model which predicts causal relationships of variables. The overall fit of the hypothetical model to the data was moderate[X$^2$=249.83(df=83, p=.00), RMR=.07, GFI=.90, NNFI=.92, NFI =.91]. The predictable variables of health promoting behavior of the Korean elderly were social activity. social support. self-integrity and helplessness except the perceived health status. These variables explained 17.1% of health promoting behavior of the Korean elderly.
