  • An offset compensation scheme for rail-to-rail CMOS op-amps with complementary input stages is presented. Two auxiliary amplifiers are used to compensate for the offsets of NMOS and PMOS differential input stages, and ping-pong control is employed for continuous-time operation. A 3V offset-compensated rail-to-rail CMOS op-amp has been designed and fabricated using a 0.8$\mu\textrm{m}$ single-poly, double-metal CMOS process. Measurement results show that offsets are reduced about 20 times by this scheme.

  • We have investigated the output characteristics and optimal conditions of a multi-stage amplifier system of Rhodamine 6G dye laser. The parameters in this simulation work were the beam diameter of the dye laser oscillator, the size of dye cell, the dye concentration, the number of stages in the amplifier system, and the pumping energy ratio of each amplifier at given pump energy. As a result, the output energy 10 mJ and the conversion efficiency of 40% in the two stage amplifier system were obtained with the pumping energy of 25mJ and the oscillator energy of 0.01 mJ.

  • In this paper, wideband two-stage amplification stage was designed, fabricated and evaluated. The proposed amplification stage with a novel gain control method have a high gain, low noise and high linearity performance. It is consisted of common emitter amplifier as the first stage, cascode gain control amplifier as second stage and power detector which sense the received signal strength. The proposed amplification stage shows a total gain of 29 dB~37 dB, noise fiugre of 1.5 dB at operating band and high linearity performance as the IMD (third intermodulation distortion) level is below the noise level of the measurement equipment at the control voltage 2.0 V generated from power detector under the strong electric field condition.

  • The aim of this study was to develop a signal process circuit for a position sensitive avalanche photodiode detector. The circuit parts consisted of amplification, differential and peak/hold circuit. This research was the baseline to develop highly compact radiation detector. The signal was amplified by an amplification chip and its shape was changed in a differential circuit to minimize the pulse tailing. The peak/hold circuit detect the peak of the signal from the differential circuit and hold the amplitude of the peak for data acquisition. In order to test the intrinsic function of the circuit, the input signal was transmitted from a commercial pulse generator.

  • This paper is concerned with instability of flow fields which are dominated by the entropy mode with the presence of usual acoustic and vortical modes. These combined modes lead to nonlinear unstable waves which may occur in automobile, aircraft, or rocket engines. In this study instability in a side-burning rocket is investigated. It is shown that the energy growth rate parameters increase with an increase of the energy growth factor. The energy growth rate parameters for turbulent flows are larger than those for laminar flows. It is further shown that unstable wave motions for the high-temperature side-burning rocket are dictated mostly by the entropy mode, somewhat by the vortical mode, and least by the acoustic mode.

  • Site amplification should be considered in order to estimate Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI), seismic source and attenuation parameters with a greater degree of reliability. The horizontal to vertical (H/V) ratio technique, originally proposed by Nakamura (1989), has been applied to analyze the surface waves in microtremor records. Recently, its application has been extended to the shear wave energy of strong motion in order to study the site transfer function. The purpose of this paper is to estimate the H/V spectral ratio using the observed data from 9 seismic stations distributed within the Southern Korean Peninsula, from the Odesan earthquake (2007/01/20). The results show that most of the stations have more stable amplification characteristics in a low frequency band than in a high frequency band. However, each seismic station showed its own characteristic resonant frequency and low and high frequency. The resonant frequency at each station should be estimated carefully, because the quality of seismic data is dependent on the resonant frequency. It can be obtained more reliable results of seismic source and attenuation parameters, if seismic ground motions which deconvolved from site transfer function is used. The site amplification data from this study can be used to generally classify the sites within the Southern Korean Peninsula.

  • Observed ground motions are composed of three factors such as, seismic source, attenuation, and site amplification effect. Among them, the site amplification characteristics should be considered significantly when estimating seismic source and attenuation characteristics with more confidence. The site effect is also necessary when estimating not only seismic hazard in seismic design engineering but also rock mechanical properties. This study uses the method of H/V spectral ratio of observed ground motion between target site and reference site called a reference site method. In addition to using the vertical Fourier spectrum of the reference site, we try out the horizontal Fourier spectrum as a new method in this study. We analyze H/V spectral ratio of six ground motions respectively, observed at four sites close to Yedang Reservoir. We then compare site amplification effects at each site using 3 kinds of seismic energies including S waves, Coda waves energy, and background noise. The results suggest that each site showed similar site amplification patterns in S waves and Coda waves energy. However, the site amplification of background noise shows much different characteristics from those of S waves and Coda wave energy, which suggests that the background noises at each site have their own developing mechanism. Each station shows its own characteristics of specific resonance frequency and site amplification properties in low, high and specific resonance frequency ranges. Comparison of the method used in this study to the others that used different methods can provide us with more information about the dynamic amplification of a site characteristics and site classification.

  • Amplication factor spectrum, using the observed strong ground motions database, has been obtained and compared with Standard Response Spectrum. The observed ground motions from the Miramichi, Nohanni, Sagueray and New Madrid Earthquake (19 vertical components, 36 horizontal components), which are estimated to represent domestic seismotectonic characteristics such as seismic sources, attenuation, and site effect, are used for the analysis of amplification factor spectrum. Amplication factors have been calculated by comparing the observed peak ground motions with results form responses to the observed horizontal and vertical ground motions. The comparison shows that the amplification factors resultant from this study exceed those of Standard Response Spectrum of relatively higher frequencies. The result implles that the characteristics of the seismic strong ground motion, which may represent the domestic seismotectonic characteristics differ from of standard Response Spectrum, especillay of higher frequencies.
