A study on the heat transfer performance of evaporator for absorption chiller (흡수식 냉온수기용 증발기의 전열성능에 관한 연구)

  • The objectives of this paper are to measure the heat transfer and pressure drop of the heat transfer tube for an evaporator of absorption system applications. Five types of heat transfer tubes with different shape and heat transfer area are tested in the present experiment. Heat transfer and pressure drop performance of heat transfer tubes are measured in various operating conditions, and compared each other. The results show that the heat transfer rate of thermoexcel notch tube and low fin tube increases about 27.6% and 11.6% at the refrigerant flow rate 250 kg/h compared with that of bare tube, respectively. The thermoexcel notch tube is shown the best performance considering pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient.

A Proposal of a Correlation of the Enthalpy of Vaporization for Pure Substances and Performance Comparison of Correlations (순수물질에 대한 증발엔탈피 상관식의 제안 및 성능비교)

  • Published correlation equations of the enthalpy of vaporization are reviewed and a new four-parameter correlation equation is proposed. Performance of the proposed equation is examined using the ASHRAE data for 22 pure substance refrigerants as reference data. The new equation yields an average absolute deviation of $0.05\%$, which is smaller than those of published equations, such as equations of Guermouche-Vergnaund $(0.08\%)$, Aerebrot $(0.13\%)$, Radoz-Lydersen $(0.08\%)$, and Somayajulu $(0.08\%)$. The three adjustable parameters of the modified correlation are optimized and reported for 22 substances. The equation proposed in this work is valid over the entire temperature range where data points exist.

Performance Analysis of Fin-tube Evaporator for Carbon Dioxide (이산화탄소용 핀-관 증발기의 성능해석)

  • Fin-tube evaporator for carbon dioxide has been investigated both by experiment and simulation. Inside refrigerant heat transfer and outside heat and mass transfer of a wet surface heat exchanger were modeled using appropriate correlations. The results estimated by the calculation were in good agreement with the experimental results. The simulation errors were less than 7.9% for estimating capacity, 0.6$^{\circ}C$ for air exit temperature, 1.2% for air exit humidity and 17% for $CO_2$ exit pressure. The simulation program was used to study the effect of air flow direction, number of rows and refrigerant circuits. For a 2-row evaporator, parallel flow showed better performance for low air velocity but for high air velocity, counter-flow was better. Refrigerant circuits, however, showed insignificant effect on the performance.

  • An experimental investigation was conducted to study two-phase flow distribution in a T-type distributor of slit fin-and-tube heat exchanger using R22. A comparison was made between the predictions by previously proposed tube-by-tube method and experimental data for the heat transfer rate of evaporator. Experiments were carried out under the conditions of saturation temperature of 5$^{\circ}C$ and mass flow rate varying from 0.6 to 1.2kg/min. The inlet air has dry bulb temperature of 27$^{\circ}C$, relative humidity of 50% and air velocity varying from 0.63 to 1.71㎧. Experiment show that air velocity increased by 85.2% is need for T-type distributor with four outlet branches than that of two outlet branches under the superheat of 5$^{\circ}C$, which resulted in air-side pressure drop increase of 130% for T-type distributor with four outlet branches as compared to two outlet branches.

Performance Evaluation of Paving Blocks Based Ambient Temperature Reduction Using a Climatic Environment Chamber (기후환경챔버를 활용한 블록의 공기온도 저감 성능평가)

  • This study evaluated the reduction performance of ambient temperature and the amount of evaporation that takes place depends on the temperature difference of paving blocks which are used in the sidewalk, roadway, parking lot, park, plaza, and etc. The water-retentive block of the LID (Low Impact Development) practice was compared with the conventional concrete block. For the quantitative performance evaluation, experiments were performed in a climatic environment chamber capable of controlling the climatic environment (solar radiation, temperature, humidity, rainfall, and snowfall). The method for performance evaluation was proposed using temperature, humidity, and ambient air of paving blocks which changes according to the solar radiation and the wind speed after the rainfall. As a result, the evaporation amount of the water-retentive block was 2.6 times higher than that of the concrete block, the surface temperature of water-retentive block was $10^{\circ}C$ lower than the concrete block, and the air temperature of water-retentive block was $4.6^{\circ}C$ lower than the concrete block. Therefore, it is analyzed that the water-retentive block with a large amount of evaporation is more effective in reducing the urban heat island phenomenon as compared with the concrete block.

  • As the interest on the air-pollution is gradually rising up at home and abroad, automotive and fuel researchers have been working on the exhaust emission reduction from vehicles through a lot of approaches, which consist of new engine design, innovative after-treatment systems, using clean (eco-friendly alternative) fuels and fuel quality improvement. This research has brought forward two main issues : exhaust emission and PM (particulate matter) particle emissions of gasoline vehicle. Exhaust emission and PM particle of automotive had many problem that cause of ambient pollution, health effects. In addition, researcher studied the environment problems of the MTBE contained in the fuel as oxygenate additives. The researchers have many data about the health effects of ingestion of MTBE. However, the data support the conclusion that MTBE is a potential human carcinogen at high doses. Based on the oxygenated fuel additive types (MTBE, Bio-ETBE, Bio-ethanol, Bio-butanol), this paper discussed the influence of oxygen contents on gasoline fuel properties and evaporative emission characteristics. Also, this paper assessed the acceleration and power performance of gasoline vehicle for the fuel property.

Performance Comparison between Indirect Evaporative Coolers made of Aluminum, Plastic or Plastic/Paper (알루미늄, 플라스틱, 플라스틱/종이 재질의 간접 증발 소자 성능 비교)

  • In Korea, summer is hot and humid, and air-conditioners consume lots of electricity. In such case, simultaneous usage of indirect evaporative cooler may reduce the sensible heat and save the electricity. In this study, heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of indirect evaporative cooler made of aluminum, plastic, plastic/paper are investigated both under dry or wet condition. Results show that indirect evaporation efficiencies of the plastic/paper sample (38.5% ~ 51.4%) are approximately the same as those of the aluminum sample (41.9% ~ 47.5%), and are larger than those of the plastic sample (29.0% ~ 37.4%). This suggests that the plastic/paper sample could be a good substitute to the aluminum sample. However, the pressure drops across the paper channel are 92% ~ 106% larger than those across the aluminum channel. The heat transfer coefficients of the paper channel under dry condition are 15% ~ 44% larger than those of the plastic channel. The increases are 185% ~ 203% for the aluminum channel. The pressure drops of the paper channel are 34% ~ 48% larger than those of the plastic channel and 93% ~ 106% larger than those of the aluminum channel. Rigorous heat transfer analysis reveals that, for the plastic sample, 30% ~ 37% of the wet channels remain dry, whereas all the channels are wet for plastic/paper sample. For aluminum sample, the ratio is 17% ~ 23%.

  • 유역의 물수지를 강수, 증발산, 토양수분저류, 유출 등 성분으로 구성하고, 토양수분저류 상태에 따라 증발산과 유출이 변화하는 식을 기본식으로 구성하였으며, 물수지를 개선하는 매개변수를 변수화하는 개념을 도입하여 다음 식의 모형을 개발하였다. 여기서, ETa는 실제증발산량, ETo는 잠재증발산량, Q는 유출량, S는 토양수분저류량이고, C1은 증발산, C2, ${\alpha}$는 유출반응, C3, C4는 매개변수 ${\alpha}$를 변수화시키는 데 관련한 매개변수이다. $$ETa(i)=(1-e^{-c1{\times}s(i)}){\times}ETo_{(i)}$$ $$Q_{(i)}=S_{(i)}{\times}(1-e^{-c2{\times}s(i)})^{[(c3+e^{-c4{\times}s(i)}){\times}a]}$$ 모형의 검증을 위해 Monte Calro 기법으로 최적 매개변수를 결정한 결과 수많은 매개변수 조합이 최적영역에 분포되는 것을 확인하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 매개변수 하나만 남겨 놓고 나머지 매개변수는 상수화시켜도 모의결과가 똑같다는 결과를 관찰하였으며, 이를 토대로 하나 매개변수만으로 일 유출 모의가 가능하다고 결론을 내렸다. 하나의 매개변수는 ${\alpha}$를 우선 추천하고, C1도 유역의 토지이용에 따라 증발산이 변화하기 때문에 의미있다고 판단하고 있다. 하나의 매개변수를 결정하는 방법은 유출 자료가 있으면 유출량으로, 없으면 유출률을 맞추는 방법이며, 일반화하기 쉽고 실용성이 매우 높은 것으로 평가된다. 유역면적 $209km^2$인 보령댐의 2007년부터 2009년까지 Monte Calro 기법으로 매개변수를 결정한 결과 C1=0.0196, C2=0.0023, C3=0.3230, C4=0.0051, ${\alpha}=2.3304$ 이었으며, 이 때 연평균 강우량 1221.2mm, 유출량 651.2mm, 유출률 53.3%이었으며, $R^2=0.833$, RMSE=2.073, NSE=0.831이었고, 관측 유출량 610.8mm, 유출률 50.0%였다. 매개변수 C1, C2, C3, C4를 고정시키고 유출률 50%에 이를 때 ${\alpha}$는 2.6946이었으며, 이 때 $R^2=0.831$, RMSE=2.102, NSE=0.826이었고, 매개변수 C2, C3, C4, ${\alpha}$를 고정시키고 유출률 50%에 이를 때 C1은 0.0255이었으며, 이 때 $R^2=0.833$, RMSE=2.083, NSE=0.829이었다. 한편 똑같은 자료로 탱크모형은 $R^2=0.79$, RMSE=2.43, NSE=0.77이었고, SWAT 모형은 $R^2=0.56$, RMSE=3.97, NSE=0.40으로 나타난 것과 비교할 때, 개발된 모형의 성능이 우수한 것이라 결론내릴 수 있었다.

  • 이 글에서는 자동차용 에어컨의 냉매 규제에 따른 대체냉매의 적용시 에어컨의 성능 변화를 이 론적으로 예측하여 보고, 냉매의 대체에 따른 응축기의 변경에 의한 성능 특성을 실험 결과로 설명하였다. 기존의 응축기(SPC)를 SCC로 교체함으로써 대체냉매를 사용하는 시스템에서 열전 달성능의 향상을 꾀할 수 있었다. 자동차용 에어컨에서 냉매의 교체에 따라 변경이 예상되는 부품으로는 응축기를 비롯하여 증발기, 팽창밸브, 수액기건조제, 압력스위치, 배관호스류, 압축기 압축기오일, 팬모터 등이 될 수 있다. 이러한 요소부품의 변경을 위해 연구개발되어야 할 기술 로는 먼저 운전 및 성능을 고려한 각 부품의 설계기술과 제작기술의 개발이 필요하다. 특히 자 동차의 내구연한의 확장에 따른 에어컨의 내구성 및 신뢰성의 문제는 지속적으로 연구되어야 할 것이다.

A Transient Separation Behavior of PDMS/PSF Hollow Fiber Membrane Modules for Ethanol-Water Mixtures (PDMS/PSF 중공사 분리막의 시간 의존적 에탄올-물 분리 거동 연구)

  • Many studies on pervaporation (PV) for the separation of dilute alcohols as an alternative to conventional energy-intensive technique of distillation have been conducted earlier. The pervaporation transition behavior of ethanol-water mixtures through the PDMS/PSF membrane is important, in order to understand the mechanism of diffusion process. Therefore, in the present work, transient PV behavior for 50 wt% EtOH/H2O mixture at 50℃ was investigated by using 1194 cm2 PDMS/PSF hollow fiber membrane modules. The overall total flux and the separation factor of all the membrane modules increased initially and then gradually decreased with respect to PV time. The initial increase can be attributed to fact that membrane fibers were dry and it took time to dissolve into the membrane surface, but the subsequent decrease is due to the depletion of ethanol concentration in the feed. Therefore, it was confirmed that the ethanol permeation through a PDMS membrane is governed by the solution-diffusion mechanism.
