Trickle Write-Back Scheme for Cache Management in Mobile Computing Environments (?이동 컴퓨팅 환경에서 캐쉬 관리를 위한 TWB 기법)

  • Recently, studies on the mobile computing environments that enable mobile hosts to move while retaining its network connection are in progress. In these mobile computing environments, one of the necessary components is the distributed file system supporting mobile hosts, and there are several issues for the design and implementation of the shared file system. Among these issues, there are problems caused by network traffic on limited bandwidth of wireless media. Also, there are consistency maintenance issues that are caused by update-conflicts on the shared files in the distributed file system. In this paper, we propose TWB(Trickle Write-Back) scheme that utilizes weak connectivity for cache management of mobile clients. This scheme focuses on saving bandwidth, reducing waste of disk space, and reducing risks caused by disconnection. For such goals, this scheme lets mobile clients write back intermediate states periodically or on demand while delaying unnecessary write-backs. Meanwhile, this scheme is based on the existing distributed file system architecture and provides transparency.

  • In this study, a continuous optimum design model with its application program for plane steel frame structures developed. In the model, the sequential unconstrained minimization technique (SUMT) transforming the nonlinear optimization problem with multidesign variables and constraints into an unconstrained minimization problem and the refined plastic hinge analysis method as one of the most effective second-order inelastic analysis methods for steel frame structures were implemented. The total weight of a steel frame structure was taken as the objective function, and the AISC-LRFD code requirements for the local and member buckling, flexural strength, shear strength, axial strength and size of the cross-sectional shapes of members were used for the derivation of constraint equations. To verify the appropriateness of the present model, the optimum designs of serveral plane steel frame structures subject to vertical and horizontal loads were conducted.

Hydrogeology and Water Chemistry of the Friar Tuck Abandoned Coal Mine Site, Indiana, USA (미국 인디아나주 Friar Tuck 폐탄광의 수리지질 및 수질)

  • The Friar Tuck Abandoned Coal Mine site is one of the most complexly disturbed areas in the midwestern United States. The deposits of gob and tailings contain high concentrations of pyrite, whose oxidation contributes to the acidification of soil and water and prevents the growth of vegetation. In an effort to quantitatively evaluate the effects of reclamation techniques, detailed monitoring program was performed. Water samples were collected from surface water, groundwater, and pore water from the unsaturated zone during a period of five years. According to the results, The spoil deposits are a relatively minor source of contamination and gob piles are the source of severe contamination to surface water and groundwater. But, loess and till beneath the gob piles effectively prevent the contaminated water migration from the source. Surface layers of the gob piles and the tailing deposits are less toxic than the interior of the deposits as a consequence of weathering over several decades. Acid mine drainage is in a post-peak stage and acid formation potential is probably situated in the unsaturated zone of refuse.

A Method to Prevent CO Poisoning from Instantaneous Water Heaters (순간 가스온수기의 CO 중독사고 예방에 관한 연구)

  • Instantaneous water heater being not properly installed and not adequately maintained may produce fatal accidents due to carbon monoxide poisoning and suffocation. Insufficient supply of air into the gas appliance for complete burning of the fuel or blocking the outlet of the combustion gas could be a cause to increase carbon monoxide concentration in the exhaust gas of the gas appliance. In this work, the experiments are done with a collected instantaneous water heater using in domestic and the concentration of oxygen near the gas appliance and carbon monoxide in exhaust gas are observed to investigate the risk of instantaneous water heater. The concentration of oxygen near the gas appliance is reduced until 17.7% for the ratio of the ventilation area and floor area being 3.5%. If the outlet of combustion gas is blocked, the carbon monoxide concentration is steeply increasing more than 4,000ppm. Therefore, periodic checking the outlet of combustion gas is more important than vent area to reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Antigenicity Changes of Ovomucoid and Ovalbumin in Chicken Egg White by NaOH, Heat and Protease Tratments (NaOH, 열, 및 효소 처리에 의한 계란 난백 중 ovomucoid와 ovalbumin의 항원성 변화)

  • Antigenicities of ovomucoid (OM) and ovalbumin (OA) in chicken egg white (EW) before and after NaOH, heat, and pretense treatments were examined by competitive indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ciELISA), using rabbit anti-OM and-OA antibodies, Enzymatic hydrolysis of EW did not effectively reduce antigenicity of OM, whereas that of OA was decreased to 1/5,000-1/100,000 by treatment of plant-derived or microbial pretenses. Heat treatment below $100^{\circ}C$ for 30min did not decrease antigenicity of OM, whereas that of OA in heated EW increased maximally to 100 times, Antigenicity of OM in EW effectively decreased by NaOH treatment, disappearing at over 1% NaOH, whereas that of OA increased. Additional heat treatment of NaOH-treated EW at $70^{\circ}C$ for 15min slightly reduced antigenicities of OM and OA.

  • The network based security techniques well-known until now have week points to be passive in attacks and susceptible to roundabout attacks so that the misuse detection based intrusion prevention system which enables positive correspondence to the attacks of inline mode are used widely. But because the Misuse detection based Intrusion prevention system is proportional to the detection rules, it causes excessive false alarm and is linked to wrong correspondence which prevents the regular network flow and is insufficient to detect transformed attacks, This study suggests an Intrusion prevention system which uses Support Vector machines(hereinafter referred to as SVM) as one of rule based Intrusion prevention system and Anomaly System in order to supplement these problems, When this compared with existing intrusion prevention system, show performance result that improve about 20% and could through intrusion prevention system that propose false positive minimize and know that can detect effectively about new variant attack.

Nondestructive Evaluation of Free Acid Content in Apples using Near-infrared Spectroscopy (근적외 분광분석법을 응용한 사과의 유리산 함량 측정)

  • In non-destructive evaluation of free acid content in apples by near- infrared spectroscopy(NIRS), browning and heat treatment of squeezed apple juice affected to the accuracy but titrable alkali concentration did not. The free acid content in apples after harvest was able to determine using different apples in harvest time for calibration making. The result of MLR, multiple correlation coefficient(R) was 0.77 and standard error of prediction(SEP) was 0.03%. The free acid content in apples during storage was able to determine using calibration equation established with stored apples, R was 0.90 and SEP was ca. 0.04%. The prediction accuracy by LAIR was not sufficient for use of quantitative analysis of free acid content in apple, but classification of law and high level in acid content was supposed to be applicable.

  • The yeast strains isolated for Choungju brewing in the previous report were examined for their microbiological characteristics, together with some comparative tests with Japanese sake yeasts. The isolates KP-16, 21 and 54 were identified as the strains belong to Saccharomyces cerevisae according to the morphological and physiological properties described in Lodder's 'The Yeasts - A texanomic study'. The isolates were grouped into the pink-colored strains by 2,3,5-tripheny tetrazolium chloride over-lay method. The strains KP-16 and 21 were found to be distinguished from the strain KP-54 in aspects of fermentation of sugars, assimilation of carbon sources, and pellicle formation on malt extract broth. ${\alpha}-methyl-D-glucoside$ was not assimilated or fermented by the isolated yeast strains and this is one of the different characters from the Japanese sake yeasts. The isolated strains appeared to have the requirements for biotin and pantothenate, and to have higher tolerance to ethanol than the Japanese sake yeasts. The biotin requirement was not found in the sake yeasts.

Effects of Low Temperature on the IAA Level in Etiolated Pea(Pisum sativum L. var. Sparkle) Seedlings (백색 완두유묘 중의 IAA 수준에 미치는 저온의 영향)

  • Little is known about the regulation of IAA level in plants under low temperature. On exposing 6-day-old etiolated pea(Pisum sativum L. var. Sparkle) seedlings grown at $25^{\circ}$ to $5^{\circ}$ for 3 days, free IAA level decreased from 17.6 to 4.9 ng/g fresh weight(that is, from 68 to 10 pmol/shoot) and total IAA level from 113.2 to 60.8 ng/g FW. The level of free tryptophan, precusor of IAA, also decreased from 583 to 414 nmol/g FW and that of free phenylalanine and tyrosine, products of shikimic acid pathway along with tryptophan, decreased from 3,168 to 2,327 nmol/g FW. Thus low temperature was found to down-regulate the level of endogenous IAA, in part, by reducing tryptophan biosynthesis in etiolated pea shoots.

  • The cornea and conjunctiva of the human eye are exposed to external environment and thus are damageable. If the damaged part is infected with some pathogenic microorganisms. serious visual loss may be occured by inflammation. Keratitis or conjunctivitis does not always occur if the eyes are routinely exposed to pathogenic factors because lysozyme in human tears has antimicrobial activity against the microorganisms. 10 this study we have selected 5 strains causing keratitis and/or conjunctivitis. and cultured them in the optimum media. And then we have estimated the growth inhibition of the strains with the addition of various concentration of lysozyme to media to investigate the antimicrobial activity of lysozyme. The results are as follows. The growth of the strains were decreased according to the increase of lysozyme concentration. The growth of Pseudomonas. Neisseria. Klebsiella and Staphylococcus were inhibited 43%, 41%, 35% and 22% respectively by 1 mM concentration of lysozyme. The susceptibility of the gram-negative bacteria to lysozyme is 1.5~2 times higher than the Staphylococcus which is gram-positive bacteria in 1 mM concentration of lysozyme. But lysozyme inhibited the growth of Fusarium which is fungi slightly.
