  • Purpose: As the importance of interaction in persons with severe and multiple disabilities has been emphasized, researchers have made an effort to increase the interaction of persons with severe and multiple disabilities. The purpose of this study was to review the trends of interaction in persons with severe and multiple disabilities by reviewing literature related to the interaction of persons with severe and multiple disabilities. Method: Based on the criteria suggested in this study, a total of 25 articles were identified. Each article was analyzed with sub-variables such as research methods, participants, settings, independent variable, dependent variable. Results: In research methods, 15 cases were conducted with single subject research methods while 6 cases used case studies. Subjects were mainly comprised of a various domain of disability(physical disability, sensory ability, intellectual disability et al.). In factor of the intervention, the interaction partner was mainly peer and physical interaction was mainly measured in type of interaction. Conclusion: Based on the findings of the study, discussions, implication and future directions of the interaction in persons with severe and multiple disabilities were presented. Also the activation plans for interaction of persons with severe and multiple disabilities were presented in this research.

  • urpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the reliability and validity of an ICF-CY based rehabilitation ability test for students with severe or multiple disabilities. Method: For this purpose, 158 special education teachers developed test and the data of 400 students were collected based on the level of performance of one or five students with multiple disabilities in their classes. Cronbach's value was calculated using SPSS 22.0 to verify reliability and we explored the construct validity using AMOS 20.0 Results: First, ICF-CY based rehabilitation ability tests showed a high internal consistency of. 98 or higher in each area. Second, the 5 factors analysis model of the confirmatory factor analysis was appropriate and 5 factors of self-moving, self-sufficing, communication, psychological stability, and behavioral management respectively showed 0.835~0.985 in the standard regression weights Conclusion: Based on this, five areas and sub factors in each area of ICF-CY based test were expected to be used as tools to properly diagnose rehabilitation abilities of students with severe or multiple disabilities.

  • Elementary combinatorial problem may be classified into three different combinatorial models(selection, distribution, partition). The main goal of this research is to determine the effect of type of combinatorial operation and implicit combinatorial model on problem difficulty. We also classified errors in the understanding combinatorial problem into error of order, repetition, permutation with repetition, confusing the type of object and cell, partition. The analysis of variance of answers from 339 students showed the influence of the implicit combinatorial model and types of combinatorial operations. As a result of clinical interviews, we particularly noticed that some students were not able to transfer the definition of combinatorial operation when changing the problem to a different combinatorial model. Moreover, we have analysed textbooks, and we have found that the exercises in these textbooks don't have various types of problems. Therefore when organizing the teaching , it is necessary to pose various types of problems and to emphasize the transition of combinatorial problem into the different models.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore and better understand special education music teachers' perceptions of their music curriculum. For this purpose, we conducted a focus group interview with seven special education music teachers. During the interview, four major themes and 14 sub-themes were identified. The main themes were the following: (a) types of applied activities and the goals of music classes (e.g., activities to be applied in various ways depending on the characteristics of the disability and intended outcome), (b) difficulty in implementing the music curriculum (e.g., lack of fit between textbook and students' chronological ages, lack of time and focus, self-evaluation of performance as a music teacher, (c) therapeutic experiences during music classes (e.g., expectation for positive effects through music therapy, joy of witnessing changes in students, and sense of togetherness), and (d) obstacles to the therapeutic approach of music classes and need for support (e.g., lack of professional knowledge regarding therapeutic approaches and problems with administrators and school environment). Based on these results, problems in implementing the music therapy approach as part of the music curriculum in special education schools are discussed and practical solutions for educators are offered.

  • The relationship between mercury level of hair and mental retardation was investigated. The 297 subjects with mental retardation were drawn from two schools providing special educational services, one, consisted of children living in an orphan home, another, children with parents. The 117 centre] subjects were drawn from whom had got average or above average academic achivement in a regular elementary school. Hair sample were taken from the nape of the neck and the mercury analysis was carried out on an atomic absorption spectrophotometer(IL 551). There was no relationship between mercury contents and age, and there was a statistically significant difference in mercury contents between male and female in the mentally retarded children living with parents. Children in the retarded group had significantly higher mercury contents compared with control group except the female group with parents. Also, the mercury levels in the retarded group living in an orphan home were significantly higher than that of the retarded group with parents. The concomitant diseases were Down's syndrome, epilepsy, cerebral palsy and autism. There were statistically significant differences in hair mercury levels in the cases of accompanying Down's syndrome and cerebral palsy in male and Down's syndrome and autism in female compared with the control group of the same sex. The most accompanying handicap was speech disturbance(40.7%) and the others were crippled, emotional disturbance etc. The percentages of double handicap were 66.7% among 6 persons exceeding 6ppm of their hair mercury contents. 10.4% among $3{\sim}6$ ppm and 15.7% among the group of 3ppm or less. The findings of this study suggest that the more opportunities of exposure to mercury in mentally retarded children may have occurred, so it can not be excluded the possibility of mercury as a contributing factor to mental retardation. Therefore, the causal relationship between mercury levels and mental retardation should be established through the examinations about their living environments, dietary pattern, eating habit etc.
