Methods: Between October and December 2009, two hundred one Chinese students from three universities located in Cungnam province, were included in the current study using a questionnaire survey. Data analysis was done using SPSS/WIN 17.0 program. Results: The average score of acculturative stress was $38.50{\pm}6.97$. There were significant differences in acculturative stress according to educational level, economic status, type of residence, speaking skill in Korean, listening skill in Korean, grade point average, satisfaction for studying abroad, and perceived health status. The acculturative stress was significantly correlated with depression, resilience and social support. The strongest predictor of acculturative stress among Chinese students was depression. Conclusions: The findings suggest that developing programs to improve psychological health may provide a buffer against acculturative stress experienced by migrating Chinese students. Furthermore, more studies are needed to explore variables that influence on the international students' acculturation in Korea.

  • The importance of the Chinese fashion market is increasing; therefore, this study investigates the possibility of implementing a Word-of-Mouth (WOM) marketing strategy among Chinese students in Korea. This study examines the effects of consumer characteristics (similarity, opinion leadership, and fashion innovativeness), awareness of Korean fashion brands, satisfaction with Korean fashion products on WOM experiences and WOM behavior (off-line as well as on-line). A total of 161 responses from Chinese students in Korea were gathered and analyzed using SPSS 20.0 for descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and regression analysis. The results show that consumer characteristics (except similarity) significantly influence WOM experiences, opinion leadership influence off-line WOM behavior, and fashion innovativeness influence online WOM behavior. However, similarity has no influence on WOM experiences and WOM behavior. Second, Korean brand awareness affect both WOM experiences and behavior; however, satisfaction with Korean fashion products only affected WOM experiences. This study showed the feasibility of conducting a WOM marketing strategy using the WOM effects of Chinese students in Korea. The study may help the Korean apparel industries establish an entry strategy for the Chinese market.

  • This study aims to investigate and compare with each other the global scholarship policy of Korea, China, and Japan, which is supported by government, and to suggest the improvement plan of the Global Korea Scholarship(GKS) program in Korea. Based on the results of comparison study with Chinese and Japanese policies, the implications for GKS program are as follows. First, GKS program needs to be redesigned according to the boundaries of in-bound and out-bound countries. Especially, the GKS program for 'neighboring countries' focusing on East Asian countries, could be developed as the Union of East Asian Nations. Second, to maximize the performance of GKS, the government needs to cooperate more actively and systematically among related departments through all the steps as a national foreign policy, that is, from establishing goals to evaluating performance. Third, the perspectives on GKS must be expanded, not just as a kind of scholarship, but as a policy for developing Korean culture and language. Fourth, out-bound GKS programs must be greatly expanded in relation to short-term programs as well as the quality of in-bound GKS programs. Finally, out-bound GKS programs for the Asian developing countries need to be redesigned and operated under the focus of ODA, to support the invited Parties beyond the foreign resource policy.
