  • 대략 17세기말-19세기초에 있었던 연속체 역학의 기본방정식이 이루어지는 과정을 살펴보고, 특히 재료역학의 발전이 이 과정에서 어떤 역할을 하였는지에 대해 조감하였다. 또한 이와 같은 역사가 우리 주변에 어떻게 투영되어 있는가를 살펴보고, 고체역학과 유체역학을 대비하여 앞으로의 발전 방향에 대해 생각해 보았다.

Study on Small Thruster Plume using Preconditioned Continuum Scheme and DSMC Method in Vaccum Area (희박영역에서 예조건화 연속체기법과 직접모사법을 이용한 소형 추력기 플룸 거동에 관한 연구)

  • To study the plume effects in the vacuum area, the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo(DSMC) method is usually adopted because the plume field usually contains the entire range of flow regime from the near-continuum in the vicinity of nozzle exit through transitional state to free molecular at far field region from the nozzle. The objective of this study is to investigate the behaviors of a small monopropellant thruster plume in the vacuum area numerically using DSMC method. To deduce accurate results efficiently, the preconditioned scheme is introduced to calculate continuum flow fields inside thruster to predict nozzle exit properties used for inlet conditions of DSMC method. By combining these two methods, the vacuum flow characteristics of plume such as strong nonequilibrium near nozzle exit, large back flow area, etc, can be investigated.

  • Scale model tests were performed to investigate the seismic behavior and capacity of reinforced concrete piers that were not detailed for seismic load. The prototype pier is of solid circular section. Additional lateral reinforcing bars were not provided that might be required for the confinement. Two kinds of reinforcement details are considered for the vertical longitudinal reinforcing bars: lap spliced and continuous. In the case of lap spliced model all the longitudinal bars were lap spliced at the same height in the bottom plastic hinge zone. Three specimens were constructed and subjected to quasi-static cyclic lateral loading while the vertical load held constant. Non-ductile failure modes were observed in the test of lap spliced models but limited ductile behavior was observed in the test of a continuous longitudinal reinforcement model.

  • In this study, nanoporous HKUST-1 membranes were synthesized by solvothermal method. It is very difficult to prepare uniform and crack-free HKUST-1 layer on macroporous alumina support by in-situ solvothermal method. In this study, continuous and crack-free HKUST-1 membranes could be obtained by spraying solvothermal precursor solution on the heated alumina support, followed by solvothermal synthesis. HKUST-1 membranes were characterized by XRD, FE-SEM and single gas permeation experiments.

Strength Prediction on Composite Laminates Including Material Nonlinearity and Continuum Damage Mechanics (재료 비선형과 연속체 손상역학을 고려한 복합 적층판의 강도 예측)

  • This paper presents development and verification of the progressive failure analysis upon the composite laminates. Strength and stiffness of the fiber-reinforced composite are analyzed by property degradation approach with emphasis on the material nonlinearity and continuum damage mechanics (CDM). Longitudinal and transverse tensile modes derived from Hashin's failure criterion are used to predict the thresholds for damage initiation and growth. The modified Newton-Raphson iterative procedure is implemented for determining nonlinear elastic and viscoelastic constitutive relations. Laminar properties of the composite are obtained by experiments. Prediction on the un-notched tensile (UNT) specimen is performed under the laminate level. Stress-strain curves and strength results are compared with the experimental measurement. It is concluded that the present nonlinear CDM approach is capable of predicting the strength and stiffness more accurately than the corresponding linear CDM one does.

  • We present a coarse-graining model to describe the mechanical behaviors of multi-walled carbon nanotubes. To find the atomic configuration in membrane-like nanostructure i.e. carbon nanotube, we employ interpolation functions and the associated element-variables that are defined in the subdivided region. Tersoff-Brenner potential is adopted for interaction of bonded atoms and also van der Waals force for non-bonded interaction. Moreover, we simulate the coarse-graining multi-walled carbon nanotubes with defects and its result is compared with that of perfect multi-walled carbon nanotubes.

  • Fully non-local Quasicontinuum method using sub-divided region with Hermite interpolation function is proposed for simulation of carbon nanotube. Tersoff-Brenner potential is adopted for interaction of bonded atoms and also van der Waals force for non-bonded interaction. Bending of single wall carbon nanotube with chirality (20,0) and 15nm length is simulated up to 90 degree. Bending of double wall carbon nanotube with chirality (20,0) and (12,0) is simulated up to 65 degree. Bending of four wall carbon nanotube is simulated up to 45 degree.

홍성 토날라이트에서 관찰되는 화성기원의 엽리와 조직

  • 경기육괴 서남부에 위치한 홍성지역의 기반암은 선캠브리아 화강암질 편마암으로 이루어진 것으로 알려져 왔으나, 적어도 일부는 신원생대(약820 Ma) 시기에 관입한 토날라이트질 심성암체로 구성된다. 토날라이트의 주 구성광물은 석영, 사장석, 흑운모, 각섬석이며, 저어콘, 스핀, 녹니석, 인회석 등이 소량으로 산출한다. 이 연구에서는 야외 및 미세구조 관찰을 통해, 홍성 화강암질암에서 나타나는 구조적 요소들이 화성기원임을 보고한다. 홍성 토날라이트에서 관찰되는 구조들이 화성기원인 증거는: (1) 엽리가 연속성이 부족하고 주향과 경사가 불규칙하며, 드물게는 사층리처럼 보이기도 한다. (2) 자형 내지 반자형의 장석과 각섬석이 엽리면에 평행 또는 준평행하게 배열되어 있으며, 반정 주변에는 음영대(pressure shadow)가 발달하지 않는다 (3) 고철질 포획체(mafic enclave)는 주변암의 엽리에 평행하게 신장되어 있고, 완전히 고화 되지 않은 상태에서 형성되는 불꽃 구조(flame structure)가 드물게 관찰된다. (4) 고철질 포획체의 주 구성광물인 흑운모와 각섬석은 주변암의 엽리와 평행하게 배열되어 있으나, 소성변형의 증거를 보이지 않는다. 홍성 토날라이트에서 관찰되는 모든 조직들이 화성기원이라고 주장하기는 어렵지만, 모두 고체상태에서의 변형작용으로 설명하기는 더욱 힘들다. 후자가 화성기원의 조직에 어느 정도 영향을 주었는지는 추후의 연구를 통해 밝혀져야 할 것이다.
