Methodology for Evaluating Cycling Environment using GPS-based Probe Bicycle Speed Data (GPS프로브 자전거 주행속도를 이용한 자전거 주행환경 평가방법론)

  • The bicycle is an environment-friendly transport mode leading to a more sustainable transportation system. To innovatively increase the use of bicycle as a significant transport mode, bicycling-friendly roadway environment should be provided. From this perspective, the scientific and effective assessment of roadway environment in term of the bicyclist perception for safety and comfortability is of keen interest. This study develops a methodology for evaluation cycling environment using probe bicycles. A global positioning system(GPS) based speedometer was used to collect bicycle speed data. Cycling comfortability index(CCI) was derived for the purpose of evaluating cycling environment. The proposed CCI can be effectively used as an assessment tool in the field of bicycle transportation.

  • 본 실험은 자동차 시뮬레이터의 속도 변화(40, 70, 100km/h)와 롤러코스터 시뮬레이터의 운동성 구현 방법(washout 필터 적용, washout 필터 비적용) 에 따른 인간 감성을 탑승자의 주관적 평가를 통하여 비교 평가하였다. 자동차 시뮬레이터, 롤러코스터 시뮬레이터 실험은 각각 건강한 20대 남자 12명, 8명을 대상으로 simulator sickness, 쾌적감, 긴장감, 각성감, 속도감에 대한 주관적 평가를 실시하였다. 결과, 자동차 시뮬레이터에서의 저속주행보다 운동형태가 다양한 롤러코스터 시뮬레이터 주행시 쾌적감, 긴장감, 각성감, 속도감이 유의하게 높았다. 즉 자동차 시뮬레이터에서는 주행시 주행속도가 증가함에 따라 운전자의 감성의 정도는 상승하였고 시뮬레이터간 비교에서는 자동차 시뮬레이터의 저속 주행에 비해 롤러코스터 시뮬레이터 주행시 감성변화는 더 컸다. 이상에서 시뮬레이터 구현 방법에서 속도 요소와 다양한 운동성 요소가 탑승자의 감성에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다.

A Need of Management of Horizontal Alignment Design at Rural Roads (지방부 도로에서 평면선형 설계관리의 필요성)

  • Road design guideline provides the directions on how to design a road alignment based on design speed, and this guideline has a design expectation in that design speed is supposed to be equal to the operating speed of drivers. Horizontal curve design is also based on design speed, and minimum radius is derived based on the drivers comfort while negotiating the curve. However, side friction reflecting drivers comfort is lower than a physical friction measured on wet road surface, therefore, it is reasonable to regard the criterion on minimum radius has a safety margin. Futhermore, the practical preference of choosing the larger radius than minimum leads to a noticeable gap between design speed and operating speed, so links to the violation of design expectation implicated in the guideline. In order to review this assumption, friction and operating speed at rural roads was measured and observed. As the results, a safety margin brought out by the gap between comfort-based friction and measured friction is qualitatively derived. Also, the gap between design speed and operating speed presumably caused by the safety margin and practical preference is analysed. By this, it is suggested that current design guideline should provides not only the minimum radius but also the management of road alignment design to minimize the gap between the design speed and operating speed.

  • 고속도로를 주행하는 차량에 작용하는 순간적인 강풍은 차량의 주행경로이탈, 차체의 수평회전 과다와 전도를 발생시키는 원인이 되며, 이로 인한 교통사고는 치명적인 대형사고로 이어질 가능성이 높다. 최근에 건설되거나 추진중인 고속도로는 고속운행에 필요한 도로선형을 확보하기 위해 계곡부를 통과하는 높은 위치에 교량을 건설하거나 산악터널을 내는 경우가 많으며, 지형적인 특성으로 발생하는 국지적인 강풍의 영향이 매우 크기 때문에 적극적인 강풍저감대책이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 강풍 발생지역을 주행중인 차량의 안전성 및 쾌적성확보를 위하여 차량의 동역학적 거동을 규명하고 차종별 주행속도와 순간풍속의 상관관계를 정립하였다. 또한 차량사고의 영향인자별 분석을 통하여 기존에 제시된 연구결과와 기준안에 대한 고찰을 실시하였고, 강풍발생 지역을 통과하는 차량에 대한 규제와 운영방법에 대해 위험풍속을 정의하고 차량속도규제(안)을 제시하였다.

Comparison of Human Sensibility in Driving Simulator and Roller-Coaster Simulator (자동차 시뮬레이터와 롤러코스터 시뮬레이터 주행에 따른 감성 비교)

  • In an experimental study, we assessed human sensibility in terms of psychophysiological response according to change of speeds (40, 70, 100km/h) in a driving simulator and application of motion fitters (washout filter, non-washout later) in a roller coaster simulator. For the driving and roller coaster simulators, a group of 12 healthy men in their twenties and a group of 8 healthy men in their twenties, respectively, participated. Participants each completed a simulator sickness questionnaire (SSQ), a subjective assessment of sensations of pleasantness, tension, and arousal, and perception of speed. Physiological signals were measured by 1/f fluctuation of EEG (electroencephalogram), ECG (electrocardiogram), and GSR (galvanic skin response). These were measured pre-to-post under the experimental conditions for each simulator. Subjective pleasantness, tension, arousal, and perception of speed and physiological responses indicating a feeling of pleasantness by 1/f fluctuation were higher for the roller coaster simulator than those measured for low speed driving in the driving simulator. The mean frequency of alpha band (8-l3㎐) in EEG increased with exposure to the driving simulator relative to that for the roller coaster simulator. Heart rate variability and GSR were significantly changed between pre- and post- under each condition in the driving and roller coaster simulators. The data suggest that subjective sensibility was elevated according to gain of speed and variety of simulator motion, and physiological responses were activated with increased speed.

A Study on the Benefit of Driving Amenity Based on Highway Density (도로 밀도에 따른 운전쾌적성 편익에 관한 연구)

  • Normally the benefits concerned in the feasibility study for highway constructions are travel time saving, vehicle operation cost, etc. which can be calculated using the simulation tool(EMME3). However, there must be extra benefits of driving amenity improvement that drivers can perceive through decreasing driving fatigue and improving driving comfortability. In this study, the definition of driving amenity was established and a method of estimation for the benefit of driving amenity improvement was developed. Highway type (urban/rural highway) and highway density was considered to estimate the driving amenity. And Double-bounded Dichotomous Choice among Contingent Valuation Method(CVM) was applied to survey the willingness-to-pay of drivers when highway density decreases. Finally the value of driving amenity was estimated using the results of survey and logit medel. As the existing highway density is high, willingness-to-pay increases in both urban and rural highways. Even though the changing rates of highway density are same, willingness-to-pay is different based on the existing highway density.

  • Bicycle is an environment-friendly transport mode contributing to a more sustainable transportation systems. To innovatively increase the use of bicycle as a significant transport mode, bicycle-friendly roadway environment should be provided. This study proposes a method to evaluate cycling environment based on the analysis of data collected from an specially equipped probe bicycle. The inertial measurement unit(IMU) consisting of a gyro sensor, accelerometer, and a global positioning systems(GPS) receiver was installed on the probe bicycle. Cycling stability index(CSI) and bicycle speed data were used as inputs of the proposed evaluation framework adopting the Fault Tree Analysis, which is a well-known technique for the risk analysis. The outcomes of this study will serve as an intelligent assesment tool for cycling environment.

Sensibility Evaluation of Driver to the Speed in a Dynamic Simulator (동환경 시뮬레이터에서 주행속도에 따른 운전자 감성평가)

  • 본 연구에서는 동적환경 감성 시험평가 시스템(driving simulator)을 이용하여 다양한 운전속도(40, 70, 100km/h)에서 주행시 운전자의 감성평가를 실시하였다. 그 결과, 주행속도가 증가할수록 쾌활성, 쾌적감, 긴장감, 각성감, 속도감이 높게 나타났고, 심박수는 증가하였다. 안정시에 비하여 주행시에 뇌파의 알파파는 감소하고 베타파는 증가하였으며 호흡수가 증가하였으나, 조건간의 유의차는 나타나지 않았다. 또한 70km/h이상에서 GSR의 증가와 SKT의 감소가 인정되었으며, 70km/h이하에서 눈깜박임율이 증가하였다. 이상의 결과로부터, 운전자는 속도가 증가할수록 주관적으로 긍정적인 감성을 느끼지만, 70km/h이상에서 자율신경계 반응에 차이가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 이러한 결과는 실제차량 및 시뮬레이터에서 수행한 선행연구의 결과와 대체로 일치하여 본 시스템으로 운전자 감성평가가 충분히 수행될 수 있음을 시사하였다.

A Study on the Evaluation of Design of Road Horizontal Alignments Based on the Operating Speed (주행속도 기반 도로 평면선형 설계 안전성 평가연구)

  • It is implicated in the current road design manual that design speed is well representing the operating speed of drivers. On the contrary, the disparity between the design speed and operating speed means that current road design cannot guarantee the safety and comfort of driving. In this context, operating speed was observed at the two lane rural roadways to find out the relation of operating speed and design speed. In addition to this, the friction factor from supply and demand which was derived from the operating speed was compared in terms of the dynamics in driving safety factor. It was concluded that the actual speed was consistently exceeding the design speed at the horizontal curves having the radius less than or equal to 200 m. Similarly, the demanded side friction was also consistently exceeding the supplied side friction at the horizontal curves having the radius less than or equal to 200 m and the amount of difference was also inversely proportional to the radius of the horizontal curves.

  • 현재 우리나라에서는 도로망의 급속한 확충에 따라 터널의 수가 급속히 증가하고 있다. 터널은 운전자들이 주야간으로 안전하고 쾌적하게 주행할 수 있도록 설계되어야 한다. 이런 관점에서 터널의 조명설계는 매우 중요하다고 할 수 있으며, 터널의 안전성, 쾌적성, 경제성을 확보하기 위한 여러 가지 복합적인 요소들을 고려한 분석이 필요하다. 이 논문에서는 터널조명에 일반적으로 사용되고 있는 저압나트륨등에 대하여 대안으로 대두되고 있는 형광등에 대한 경제성 측면에서의 비교 방법론 연구를 수행한다. 각각의 등에 대하여 동일 한 터널 노면기준조도를 구현하기 위한 필요 등의 수를 시뮬레이션을 통하여 결정하고, 이를 기반으로 각 터널 조명에 소요되는 Life Cycle Cost를 기본 Model을 통하여 산정하고 비교하는 방법을 제시한다. 이러한 분석은 터널개발 사업의 정책적 결정에 있어 기초 방법과 자료로서 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
