Anaerobic fill time and feeding pattern in SBR operation were investigated to find way of minimizing poor nitrogen removal efficiency in BNR process without external carbon addition. The three types of the modified SBR operations that were CO-SBR, IA-SBR, and SF-SBR were tested by lab-scale and pilot-scale SBR processes($2\;m^3/day$). In addition, practical equation for biological nitrogen removal was suggested and the equation considered the effect of ratio of fill volume over whole SBR volume and the ratio of step-feed in SBR. The denitrification efficiency of the SF-SBR was best among the three SBRs and followed by IA-SBR, and CO-SBR. The efficiency was 95%, 61%, and 19%, respectively. Looking at the change of sludge floc density by the length of anaerobic fill time, the density of sludge floc at 1 hour and 2 hours of anaerobic fill time were greater than 3 hours of one. The floc size distributions were $100{\sim}300\;{\mu}m$ and $200{\sim}400\;{\mu}m$ with respect to anaerobic fill time 2 hours and 3 hours, respectively.

The reaction of zero-valent iron (ZVI) with oxygen can produce reactive oxidants capable of oxidizing organic compounds. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of pre-treatment on sludge solubilization by ZVI and aeration. The results demonstrated that the aeration pre-treatment with ZVI method was more effective than the only aeration for improving sludge solubilization, indicating that ZVI increased the extent of sludge solubilization. In addition, removal rate of $NH_3-N$ by ZVI and aeration was found to be 34%, while only aeration was 24%. Thus, ZVI and aeration can be employed as an efficient pre-treatment option to achieve higher sludge solubilization and decrease the toxic effect of $NH_3-N$ for sludge digestion.
Improvement of soft clay layers is highly significant for the efficient utilization of the national land. Thus, the development of advanced methods and materials is currently necessary. Quicklime, as a injection material for the soil improvement, is possibly applied as the useful method for the improvement of soft clay layers. Based upon the experimental study, the following conclusions were obtained. When quicklime was employed, a substantial strength increase was observed from the initial stage of injection. In overall, the present experiments showed that the improvement effects of soft clay layers using the quicklime are appeared to be substantially better than those of lime or sand. Therefore, the possibility of quicklime usage is significantly high in domestic country with abundant lime reserves.

The fault injection attack has been developed to extract the secret key which is embedded in a crypto module by injecting errors during the encryption process. Especially, an attacker can find master key of AES using injection of just one byte. In this paper, we proposed a countermeasure resistant to the these fault attacks by checking the differences between input and output. Using computer simulation, we also verified that the proposed AES implementation resistant to fault attack shows better fault detection ratio than previous other methods and has small computational overheads.
The objective of the present study were to evaluate nitrification characteristics and determine optimum treatment conditions of three phase fluidized bed reactor for recycling water treatment of aquaculture. When the loading rates were 2.739-0.086kg $COD/m^3/day$ and 1.575-0.128kg $NH_4\;^+-N/m^3/day$, COD and ammonia removal efficiencies were $56.3-94.7\%\;and\; 67.392.6\%$, respectively. The maximum removal rates of COD and ammonia were 1200mg/l/day and 488mg/l/day, respectively. Ammonia removal rates were more than $90\%$ beyond 1hr HRT. The ammoniaremoval efficiency was sensitive to the variation of media concentration and air flowrate.
The engineering industry heavily relies on fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum to generate energy through combustion. However, this process emits carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, leading to global warming. To mitigate this issue, researchers have explored various methods to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, one of which is carbon dioxide underground storage technology. This innovative technology involves capturing carbon dioxide from industrial plants and injecting it into the saturated ground layer beneath the earth's surface, storing it securely underground. Despite its potential benefits, carbon dioxide underground storage efficiency needs improvement to optimize storage in a limited space. To address this challenge, our research team has focused on improving storage efficiency by utilizing surfactants. Furthermore, we evaluated how different carbon dioxide states, including gaseous, liquid, and supercritical, impact storage efficiency based on their respective pressures and temperatures within the underground reservoir. Our findings indicate that using surfactants and optimizing the injection rate can effectively enhance storage efficiency across all carbon dioxide states. This research will pave the way for more efficient carbon dioxide underground storage, contributing to mitigating the environmental impact of fossil fuels on the planet.
The analysis of hole injection efficiency at the p+/n-drift layer junction in non-punchthrough IGBT structure is presented. This analysis takes into account carrier concentration variations by conductivity modulation. Good agreement between this analysis and simulation is found over a wide range of carrier lifetime and current density. The proposed analytical model of the hole injection efficiency as a function of collector width, collector concentration has been verified by device simulator, ATLAS.
Box experiments were performed to evaluate the removal efficiency of SVE (soil vapor extraction) for gasoline in soil. An activated carbon sorption tower and a biofilter were operated as post-treatment processes to remove VOCs extracted from extraction wells of SVE. An acrylic resin box (65 cm${\times}$20 cm${\times}$30 cm) was used to make artificial soil layers and two injection wells and one extraction well were built for SVE process in the box. Gases from extraction wells flew into the activated carbon sorption tower or the biofilter. Gasoline concentrations of VOCs emitted from the extraction well were compared with those after post treatments. More than 92% of initial gasoline mass in soil were removed by SVE within few days, suggesting that SVE is very available to remove VOCs from contaminated soils. To treat VOCs from extraction wells of SVE, an activated carbon sorption tower and a biofilter were attached to SVE process and their gasoline removal efficiencies were measured. These post treatment systems lowered gasoline concentrations to below 1.0 ppm within few days. Average remediation efficiency was 98% of gasoline for the activated carbon sorption tower and 84.1% for the biofilter. The maximum removal capacity of a biofilter was 10.7 g/L/hr, which was ten times higher than general biofilter removal capacity. Results from the study suggest that the activated carbon sorption tower and the biofilter would be available for the post treatment process to remove VOCs generated from SVE process.
This paper is the continuation of our previous paper, which we refer to as numerical analysis of phase behavior and flow properties in an injection tubing during gas phase CO2 injection. Our study in this paper show the results during supercritcal CO2 injection under the same project. Geological CO2 storage technology is one of the most effective method to decrease climate change due to high injectivity and storage capacity and economics. A demonstration-scale CO2 storage project was performed in a deep aquifer in the Pohang basin, Korea for a technological development in a large-scale CO2 storage project. A problem to consider in the early stage design of the project was to analyze CO2 phase change and flow characteristics during CO2 injection. To solve this problem, injection conditions were decided by calculating injection rate, pressure, temperature, and thermodynamic properties. For this research, we simulated and numerically analyzed CO2 phase change from liquid to supercritical phase and flow characteristics in injection tubing using OLGA program. Our results provide discharge pressure and temperature conditions of CO2 injection combined with a pressure of an aquifer.
This paper presents development of a CO2 injectivity analysis model using nodal analysis for the depleted oil reservoirs in Malaysia. Based on the final well report of an appraisal well, a basic model was established, and sensitivity analysis was performed on injection pressure, tubing size, reservoir pressure, reservoir permeability, and thickness. Utilizing the well testing report of A appraisal well, permeability of 10md was determined through production nodal analysis. Using the basic input data from the A appraisal well, an injection well model was set. Nodal analysis of the basic model, at the bottomhole pressure of 3000.74psia, estimated the CO2 injection rate to be 13.29MMscfd. As the results of sensitivity analysis, the injection pressure, reservoir thickness, and permeability tend to exhibit a roughly linear increase in injection rate when they were higher, while a decrease in reservoir pressure at injection also resulted in an approximate linear increase in injection rate. Analyzing the injection rate per inch of tubing size, the optimal tubing size of 2.548inch was determined. It is recommended that if the formation parting pressure is known, performing nodal analysis can predict the maximum reservoir pressure and injection pressure by comparing with bottomhole pressure.
