The levels of butyltin compounds in poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) food packaging using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) were monitored. The analytical method, involving the ethylation with sodium tetraethylborate, was found to be selective and sensitive for mono-n-butyltin (MBT), di-n-butyltin (DBT), and tri-n-butyltin (TBT), validated by a $0.005\;{\mu}g/mL$ limit of detection (LOD), an $R^2>0.999$ for linearity, and >90% of recovery, respectively. Finally, none of the commercial food wraps and gaskets showed detectable levels of butyltin compounds.

To investigate the matrix effect of sample for hydrogen analysis by inert gas fusion-thermal conductivity detection, calibration factor for the hydrogen analyser of the inert gas fusion-thermal conductivity detection method was measured with hydrogen standard materials in Ti, Zr-2.5Nb and by hydrogen gas dosing method. Also the hydrogen extraction efficiency for the different sample matrix, Ti and Zr-2.5Nb, was evaluated without adding tin flux. The calibration factor of the hydrogen analyser which was calibrated by hydrogen standard material in Zr-2.5Nb and Ti was 2~3% and 14% higher than that by hydrogen gas dosing method, respectively. Based on the results of calibration factor measurement, it could be concluded that the hydrogen extraction efficiency of the Ti matrix sample will be 12% lower than that of the Zr-2.5Nb. And according to the experimental results of hydrogen recovery test by no tin flux, the hydrogen recovery percentage of the Ti and Zr-2.5Nb matrix sample was about 70% but the recovery rate of Ti matrix sample was slightly lower than that of Zr-2.5Nb.
The electro-refining process was performed to recovery high purity copper from low grade copper containing sludge in sulfuric acid. The surface morphologies and roughness of electro-refining copper were analyzed with variation of the type and concentration of organic additives, the best surface morphology was obtained 5 ppm of the gelatin type and 5 to 10 ppm of the thiol type organic additive. The crude metal consisted of copper with 86.635, 94.969 and 99.917 wt.%, several impurity metals of iron, nickel, cobalt and tin by pyro-metallurgical process. After electro-refining process, the purity of copper increases to 3N or 4N grade. The impurity concentrations and copper purities of copper crude metals, electrolyte and electro-refining copper were analyzed using ICP-OES, the electro-refining time and purity of copper crude metal to recover 4N grade copper were deduced.

Separation/recovery of valuable metals such as nickel or tin from copper based alloys has recently attracted from the viewpoints of environmental protection and resource recycling. In this report, preliminary study on concentration and separation of nickel from copper based alloy dross using selective adsorption by chelate resin was performed. The chelate resin used in this study has absorbed copper ions more easily than nickel ions in the metal solution, which could allow the concentration/separation of the nickel from the copper base alloy solution. The final molar ratios of Ni and Cu ions in the two concentrated solutions were 70 and 99 % respectively after three-time flowing the solution through the chelate resin column.
Recently, the amount of electronic scrap is rapidly increasing due to the rapid growth of the electronics industry. Among the components of electronic scrap, the printed circuit board(PCB) is an important recycling target which includes common metals, precious metals, and rare metals such as gold, silver, copper, tin, nickel and so on. In Korea, however, PCB recycling technologies are mainly commercialized by some major companies, and other process quantities are not accurately counted. According to present situation, several urban mining companies, research institutes, and universities are conducting research on recovery of valuable metals from PCBs and/or reusing them as raw materials that is different from existing commercialization process developed by major companies. In this study, we analyzed not only current status of collection/disposal process and recycling of waste PCBs in Korea but also the trend of recycling technologies in order to help resource circulation from waste PCBs become more active.

In the points of the environmental conservation and the recirculating utilization of limited resources, it is very important to recover valuable metals like Au, Ag, Pd, Cu, Sn, Ni, Co, and Li used as industrial raw materials from urban ores. From now, many processes have been developed for recovering the valuable metals contained in urban ores and some of them have been operated commercially. In the paper, pyrometallurgical processes developed for reclaiming valuable metals from urban ores will be briefly introduced.

A hydrogen determinator was modified and installed in the glove box to analyse total hydrogen content in irradiated zircaloy tube. The analysis method of hydrogen is Inert Gas Fusion(IGF)-Thermal Conductivity Detection(TCD). The hydrogen recoveries of no tin method using Ti and Zr matrix standards, respectively, were available within $3{\mu}g$ of hydrogen. Also the smaller size of sample showed the better hydrogen recovery. It was found that the hydrogen standard of Ti matrix is avaliable to hydrogen analysis in zircaloy sample. The mean radioactivity of irradiated zircaloy sample was 10 mR/hr and hydrogen concentration was 130 ppm.
Leaching experiments of anode slime were performed with several inorganic acids (HCl, $HNO_3$ and $H_2SO_4$) together with thiourea and thiosulfate solution to recover gold and silver. Gold was not dissolved at all into these inorganic acids in the absence of any oxidizing agents. At the same concentration of inorganic acid, the leaching of percentage of Ag was the highest in the sulfuric acid solution. The leaching percentage of silver increased with the increase of HCl concentration owing to the formation of $AgCl_2{^-}$. Copper, nickel and zinc except tin was almost dissolved in these inorganic acids but no tin was dissolved in nitric acid solution. Most of Au and Ag were dissolved into the mixture of sulfuric acid and thiourea solution. Thiosulfate could dissolve some silver from the anode slime but no gold was dissolved by this agent.

Organotin pesticide is used as an acaricide in agriculture and may contaminate livestock products. This study aims to develop a rapid and straightforward analytical method for detecting organotin pesticides, specifically azocyclotin, cyhexatin, and fenbutatin oxide, in various livestock products, including beef, pork, chicken, egg, and milk, using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The extraction process involved the use of 1% acetic acid in a mixture of acetonitrile and ethyl acetate (1:1). This was followed by the addition of anhydrous magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) and anhydrous sodium chloride. The extracts were subsequently purified using octadecyl (C18) and primary secondary amine (PSA), after which the supernatant was evaporated. Organotin pesticide recovery ranged from 75.7 to 115.3%, with a coefficient of variation (CV) below 25.3%. The results meet the criteria range of the Codex guidelines (CODEX CAC/GL 40). The analytical method in this study will be invaluable for the analysis of organotin pesticides in livestock products.
