Taxol Production in Taxus sap. Cell Cultures 1. Studies on Taxol Content in Yew Trees and Cultured Plant Cells (주목 세포배양에 의한 Taxoll 생산 1.주목 부위 및 서식 고도별 Taxol 함량 및 세포주 유도에 관한 연구)

  • Taxol contents in various parts of 15 years old yew tree were determined. The descending order of taxol content per unit mass was stem bark, root bark, needle and seed. In the seed, that order was seed coat, embryo and endosperm. The total amount of taxol extractable from a 15 years old yew tree was 1.68 gram. This amount was distributed in needle, stem bark, root bark and seeds as 48.0, 23.8, 27.9 and 0.4%, respectively. Altitudinal variation of taxol content was also observed. More taxol was observed in yew trees grown at high altitude over 1000m above sea level. Calli and suspension cultures were induced from various yew trees. The presence of taxo] in cultured cells was established bv HPLC. The taxol content in cultured cells were different according to the source of explants. These results may be useful for the goal of large scale taxol production by cultured yew tree cells.

A Study on the Growing State of Taxus cuspidata in Baekwoonsan the High 1 Ski Slope Construction Area in Jeungsun-gun, Gangwon-do (강원도 정선군 백운산 High 1 스키장 슬로프 개발 지역의 주목 생육현황 조사)

  • For the proper tree management of Taxus cuspidata, distributed in the High 1 Ski Slope construction area in Baekwoonsan, Jeungsun-gun, Kangwon-do, the growing states of 323 trees(including transplanted 57trees) are investigated. Tree height, rootcollar diameter, D.B.H., stem condition, apical shoot, dead branch, needle growth condition, 2-year-old needle loss, root condition, tree form are investigated. Taxus cuspidata are mainly growing at the sites, high elevated mountain ridge or slopes facing north. Growing states of Taxus cuspidata, distributed in Baekwoonsan are relatively better than those of Taxus cuspidata and Abies koreana at other subalpine zone in Korea. Damaged trees are mainly due to root-removal through transplanting, root-damages by raising the ground level and digging. Several methods of Taxus cuspidata conservation were suggested.

Phytosociological Study on Natural Forest of Taxus cuspidata in Mt. Hambaek (함백산 천연생 주목군락의 식물사회학적 연구)

  • This study investigated the structural characteristics of Taxus cuspidata communities on Mt. Hambaek. The vegetation consisted of 9 species in the T$_1$(tree) layer, 35 species in the T$_2$(subtall tree) layer, 28 species in the S(shrub) layer, and 69 species in the H(herb) layer. The dominant species of the T$_1$ layer was Taxus cuspidata and that of the T$_2$ layer was Acer tschonoskii var, rubripes. The dominant species of the S layer was Tripterygium regelii, and the dominant species of the H layer was Pseudostellaria palibiniana. The diameter distribution of the dominant five species in the T$_1$ and T$_2$ layers indicates that these Taxus cuspidata forests may be gradually dominated by Quercus mangolica and by Tripterygium regelii. The composition of biological type was Ph-D$_1$-R$_{5}$-e.

  • Calligraphy has become popular in recent years. Designers use calligraphy to draw consumer visual attention and liking by delivering friendly and gentle images. This paper analyzes the effects of calligraphy on consumer response to advertisement design. Regression analyses show calligraphy has a positive effect on consumer visual attention and liking, particularly in sensible product/service. In low involvement product/service, however, calligraphy has a negative effect. These results imply that designers should be careful when they use calligraphy.

Pre-service Teachers' Noticing in Peer Evaluation of Mathematical Problem Posing: Focusing on permutation and combination (동료의 문제 만들기 과제를 평가하는 과정에서 나타난 예비교사의 주목하기: 순열과 조합을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine pre-service teachers' noticing when evaluating peers' mathematical problem posing tasks. To this end, 46 secondary pre-service teachers were asked to create real-world problems related to permutation and combination and randomly assigned to evaluate peers' problems. As a result, the pre-service teachers were most likely to notice the difficulty of their peers' mathematics problems. In particular, the pre-service teachers tended to notice particular conditions in order to increase the difficulty of a problem. In addition, the pre-service teachers noticed the clarity of a question and its solution, novelty of the problem, the natural connection between real-world contexts and mathematical concepts, and the convergence between mathematical concepts.

Taxonomic position of Taxus cuspidata var. latifolia endemic to Ulleung Island (울릉도 회솔나무(Taxus cuspidata var. latifolia)의 분류학적 위치)

  • The purpose of this study is to review the taxonomic position of Taxus cuspidata var. latifolia endemic to Ulleung Island with related taxa T. cuspidata var. cuspidata, T. caespitosa, and T. cuspidata var. nana based on external morphological characters and DNA barcoding study. T. cuspidata var. latifolia was similar to T. cuspidata var. cuspidata in the arbor, straight trunk, and symmetric arrangement of leaf. But the unique differences between T. cuspidata var. latifolia and T. cuspidata var. cuspidata were leaf size and the exposure of seed from aril. Additionally, sequences of four chloroplast DNA regions including matK, rbcL, trnL intron and trnL-trnF spacer regions were analyzed. Korean Taxus species and their related taxon T. cuspidata var. nana were strongly supported as a monophyletic group in neighbor-joining analysis. Taxus cuspidata var. latifolia showed 100% sequence identity to related taxa. Korean endemic T. caespitosa is also distinguishable from related taxa by prostrate stems and spiral arrangement of leaf. The examinations of external morphology and DNA barcoding study suggest that the taxonomic position of T. cuspidata var. latifolia should be maintained as a variety of T. cuspidata.
