  • At present, about 1.6 million bio-species have been discovered in the world. Approximately 30 thousand indigenes have been recorded in Korea and about fifteen thousand species of biology inhabit in Korea national park. Korea national park where has been lived 133 species at 60 percent of endangered species is a very important wildlife protection area. The construction of database about substantive distribution and habitat of wildlife is urgently needed to protect and manage endangered species. In this study, main habitats about animals were registered using GIS program in Jirisan National Park and 3 dimensional habitat map was produced. Also, new plan was suggested to preserve and manage animals in national parks by producing 3 dimensional habitat map. The habitat map was produced using coordinate file of animals, polygon file about boundary of national park, and ASTER GDEM. New conceptional animal habitat map will be used by means of the valuable information when the plans for preservation/management and habitat protection about animals are designed.

  • This study was carried out to offer a basis data for application of effective management through species composition and community structure of Castanopsis cuspidata var. thunbergii stands (Bijindo and Yokjido). The upper, middle and lower layer in Bijindo and Yokjido consisted of 10, 11 and 27 species, and 9, 6 and 28 species, respectively. The importance value of Castanopsis cuspidata var. thunbergii were highest in upper and middle layer both two studied site. The herbaceous species were 33 and 47 species in Bijindo and Yokjido, respectively. The species diversity ranged from 0.523 to 1.280 in Bijindo and 0.699 to 1.364 in Yokjido. Dominance in Bijindo and Yokjido were 0.477 and 0.242 at upper layer, 0.231 and 0.102 at middle layer, and 0.106 and 0.057 at lower layer, which showed that Castanopsis cuspidata var. thunbergii stands are dominated by a large number of species at all layer. The distribution pattern by Morisita's index showed that Castanopsis cuspidata var. thunbergii was distributed randomly in upper layer both the studied sites.

  • The taxonomic status of Moroco Jagowskii and M oxycephalus a pair of sibling species inhabiting in Korean fresh waters, has been unclear up to date. Recently a sympatric area of these species was found (Kang, 1987). The purpose of this study was to clarify their specific status by analysing specimens collected from the sympatric area of these species. Isozyme analysis and morphometric comparison were performed. Among 26 loci screened 6 loci (Aco, Est-2, E-X, Gk-3, Ipo, Me) showed fixed allelic difference between them and these loci could be used as genetic markers to distinguish them. Isozyme analysis indicates that no hybridization occurs and therefore it is assumed that isolating mechanism is completed and they are distinct species. The mean number of scales above lateral line (SAL) of M Jagowskii and M oxycephalus at sympatric area was 24.93 $\pm$1.95 and 17.33$\pm$0.72 respectively, and it seems as the result of character displacement. A finer microhabitat segregation between them is noticed. M oxycephalus is found along the effluent streams whereas M lagowskii is distributed mostly in the main stream at sympatric area.

  • This study was conducted to confirm if spatial distribution of macrobenthic fauna were related with sedimentary characteristics. Sedimentary characteristics were compared in each community after carrying of community analysis based upon species composition. Macrobenthic animals were distinguished with 4 communities based on the tidal level, of which 3 communities were divided into two groups on the sediment composition. Common species which were presented in all communities, Nephtys californiensis Hartman 1938, Haploscoloplos elongatus Johnson 1901, Glycera sp., Heteromastus sp. Notomastus sp. Timarete amtarctica Mono 1930, Glysinde sp., Lumbrineris japonica Marenzeller 1879 were having different appearance densities at each community area caused by different sedimentary characteristics. But only two species among the common species have a correlation significantly. Temporal variation of common species could not be recognised because of 4 times of seasonal investigation was not enough know their life cycles. So, in the future more frequently sampling method should be required.

  • The Korean marine hydrioid fauna identified up to data consists of 120 species of 55 genera in 17 families. Of which Abientiunaria filicula (Ellis and Solander, 1786) is new to the Korean fauna, and the dominant species of hydroids in Korean water is Sertularella miurensis Stechow, 1921 which is collected from 33 points of 96 localities. The coastal waters of Korea are divided into four regions : the East Sea, the South Sea, the Yellow sea and the Chejudo. Concerning the total number of species occured in each region, 43 species in the East Sea, 52 species in the Yellow Sea, 73 species in the South Sea and 83 species in the Chejudo and its vicinity. From the results above described it can be salid that the Chejudo region shows the most diversity of the Korea hydroids. The community coefficient of the East Sea-the Yellow Sea is 0.444, that of the East Sea-the South Sea 0.553, that of the East Sea-Chejudo 0.519, that of the Yellow Sea-the Sea 0.682, that of the Yellow Sea-the Chejudo 0.533 and that of the South Sea-the Chejudo 0.642. So that the zoogeographical relatinship between the Yellow Sea and the South Sea is the highest and between the East Sea and the Yellow Sea is the lowest on the hydroids distribution.
