Psychological effects on elderly driver's traffic accidents (고령운전자 교통사고의 심리적 요인)

  • Korean society is rapidly changing to aging society comparing the other industrialized countries, however, the studies of elderly driver's driving behavior and accidents are not enough in Korea for elderly driver's accident prevention. This study focused on the elderly driver's psychological effects on elderly driver's driving behavior and traffic accidents; carefulness and aberrant driving behavior. - Elderly driver's traffic accidents The high percentage of elderly driver's accidents occurs in intersections and when turning left. There was a significant difference of the opponent vehicle's speed when left turn, between elderly driver and young driver; the elderly driver choose the higher speed of opponent vehicle than young driver when left turning. This result means that elderly driver has some problems with deciding the vehicle's speed and gap acceptance(Sunyeol Lee, Soonchul Lee, and Inseok Kim, 2006)(Table 1). - Carefulness and driving confidence In order to understand elderly driver's carefulness, this study compared the elderly driver's driving confidence. Driving confidence was consisted of 4 factors; environment of traffic condition, safe driving, driving ability and attention. Elderly driver's confidence was lower than young driver's. Elderly driver in high driving confidence group, showed longer driving history and they were tend to commit violations more frequently than elerly driver in low driving confidence group. Young driver, whose driving confidence level was high answered more driving history, annual mileage, the frequency of committing traffic violation and the experience of accident within lats 5 years(Soonchul Lee, Juseok Oh, Sunjin Park, Soonyeol Lee and Inseok Kim, 2006)(Table 2). This study examined the total time required until deciding to turn left in the no traffic signal intersection between elderly driver and young driver. The result showed that the time of elderly driver was significant longer than young driver(Sunyeol Lee et al, 2006)(Table 3). - Elderly driver's aberrant behavior Driver behavior Questionnaire(DBQ) was measured to understand the aberrant behavior; violation, error and lapse. The tend of aberrant behavior was observed by aging(Sunjin Park, Soonchul Lee, Jonghoi, Kim and Inseok Kim, 2006). Elderly driver's DBQ score was lower than young driver's(Table 4). Elderly and young driver showing longer driving history were in low DBQ score group. Elderly driver had high error score and young driver had high violation score. Young driver's aberrant driving behaviour was associated with annual mileage and the frequency of committing traffic violation. Elderly driver's aberrant driving behaviour was associated with annual mileage and experience of accident. Especially elderly driver whose violation, error and lapse score was high answered more committing experience of accident within last 5 years.

유치에 대한 Traumatic Injury의 처치

  • 생활양식의 변화에 따라 유치 및 유영구치에 대한 traumatic injury가 크게 증가하고 있으며 이는 어린이나 보호자에게 심리적으로 커다란 영향을 미칠 수 있는 것이다. 어린이의 신체중 구강주위에 가장 많은 injury를 받는 것으로 나타나고 있고 하악전치 보다는 상악전치가, 여자 보다는 남자가 더욱 많은 injury를 받는 것으로 알려져 있으며 유전치에 대한 injury가 가장 많은 시기는 걷는 것, 달리는 것을 처음 재우게 되는 1½~2½세 사이이다. 물론 같은 어린이가 수회의 injury를 받을 수 있으며 특히 조심성이 없거나 가정이 파괴된 상태의 어린이에 있어 사고 위험이 높은 것으로 나타나고 있다. 일단 injury가 발생하면 가능한 한 빨리 치료가 이루어져야 하는데 유치는 계승치 맹출에 의하여 정상적인 치근 흡수현상을 나타내고 발육중인 유영구치는 치근이 미완성된 상태이므로 성숙된 영구치와는 처치방법이 다르며 때 고려해야 할 사항으로, ① management of child, ② degree of root resorption (degree of permanent tooth development), ③ space problems, ④ degree of parental concern, ⑤habits, ⑥ speech, ⑦ esthetics등이 있다.

  • This study focused on driver's carefulness and researched the relationship between driving confidence and driving behaviour in elderly and young drivers. In order to evaluate the driving confidence level, 'Driving Confidence Scale' was developed. 175 of young drivers(younger than 25) and 150 of elderly drivers(older than 65) conducted Driving Confidence Scale. They answered their driving patterns; driving history, annual mileage, the frequency of committing traffic violation, and experience of accident within 5 years. Elderly driver's data was collected by face to face interview. The factors of driving confidence were analyzed and the driving confidence level of young and elderly drivers was compared. Driving Confidence was consisted of 4 factors; environment of traffic condition, safe driving, driving ability, attention. Elderly driver's confidence was lower than young driver's. The Impact of Forest Therapy on Neuro-cognitive, Psychosocial, and Physiological Aspects of Adolescent Internet Addiction Risk Group (산림치유가 청소년 인터넷 중독 위험군의 신경인지, 심리사회, 그리고 생리적 측면에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aims to evaluate the impact of forest therapy on neuro-cognitive, psychosocial, and physiological aspect of adolescent internet addiction risk group. We have classified potential and high risk user group as internet addiction risk group according to the criteria of Korean Internet Addiction Proneness Scale(K Scale). Based on the results of k-scale from the adolescents in metropolitan area from May to July 2013, 25 people were selected as Internet addiction risk group. We have randomized 13 participants joining forest therapy camp and 12 participants not joining one, and analyzed the change of the two groups with Continuous Performance, Kimberly S. Young, Connor-Davidson Resilience, Relationship Change Scale, heart rate variability and cortisol. Statistically significant changes were observedd in neuro-cognitive, psychosocial, and physiological variables, Through this study, we can consider that the therapy healing may relieve the level of internet addiction and can be an alternative to control emotional stability and impulsive behavior.

The influence of driving situational adaptability and chronic disease on driving behavior of elderly drivers (고령운전자의 상황적응능력과 만성질환이 운전행동에 미치는 영향)

  • This research investigated the influences of excessively careful driving as well as chronic disease and medications on dangerousness of traffic accident in elderly drivers. Ninety-one drivers aged 65 years and older participated in the research. To evaluate the driving behavior, we used the self-rating on driving ability questionnaire asking driving speed, the amount of driving and driving situation adaptability' and surveyed the drive career, the number of violations and accidents experience(crash, crashed) for last three years. A review of the driving patterns of elderly drivers showed that the speed and amount of driving were decreased by increasing age. 'Driving- Situational Adaptability (DSA)' consisted of 2 factors such as 'Social Environment(SE)' and 'Physical Environment(PE)'. Elderly drivers reported that their confidence level was lower in PE than in SE. Moreover they had higher difficulty and stress in PE than in SE. DSA of elderly drivers had significant correlations with 'crash' and 'crashed'. This implies that excessively careful driving of elderly drivers directly associated with accidents. Elderly drivers who have nervous system disease or gastritis had more crash accidents. The majority of elderly drivers which take medicine by chronic disease don't think that medications give don't difficulty or inconvenience in driving and constantly drives during a term of taking medicine.
