  • An electrical cascade impactor is a multistage impaction device to separate airborne particles into aerodynamic size classes using electrical method. We designed a real-time three-stage electrical low-pressure impactor, which is proper to nanometer sized environmental aerosols. Performance evaluation was carried out for stage 1 and 2. The monodisperse liquid dioctyl sebacate (DOS) particles were generated using condensation-evaporation followed by electrostatic classification using DMA (differential mobility analizer) for particles with diameters in the range of $0.04{\sim}0.8{\mu}m$. The evaluation of the electrical impactor is based on the use of two electrometers, one connected to the impaction plate of the impactor, and the other to the faraday cage as backup filter. The results showed that the experimental 50% cutoff diameters in the operation pressure were 0.53 and $0.12{\mu}m$ for stage 1 and stage 2. The effect of operation pressure on the cutoff diameter and the steepness of collection effcieicy curves is investigated.

  • In view of global environmental problems and resource exhaustion, we must develop new energy resources that are abundant and provide substitutes for fossil fuels. Renewable energies, such as solar, are ideal because they are clean, inexhaustible, and available everywhere in the world. Photovoltaic(PV) system, in general, are operated as a stand-alone, grid-tied, or hybrid system. Many of the stand-alone PV systems are installed. Although the pre-installation cost of PV system is high, it poorly has been operated due to the absence of optimal management standards. Therefore a study on the performance of PV system is important for the system design and maintenance. In this paper a photovoltaic lighting system was resigned according to load consumption. Then a PV lighting system which used electrodeless lamp as a load was installed. In order to investigate the system operating characteristics we've added a monitoring system to the PV lighting system. The monitoring system using the LabVIEW program regularly checks the operation of the PV lighting system and records the system data. According to the system data, the stability and availability of the PV lighting system were evaluated.

  • High power light emitting diode(LEDs), a strong candidate for the next generation general illumination applications are of interest. With major advantages of power saving, increased life expectancy and faster response time over traditional incandescent bulb, the LEDs are rapidly taking over many applications such as LCD backlighting, traffic light, automotive lighting, signage, etc. The increased electrical currents used to drive the LEDs have focused more attention on the thermal management because the efficiency and reliability of the solid-state lighting devices strongly depend on successful thermal management. There exist some problems that are caused by heat generation in the LED package, such as wire breakage, yellowing of epoxy resin, lifted chip caused by reflow of thermal paste chip attach and interfacial separation between LED package and silicon resin. The goal of this study is to analyze high power LED thermal properties of using pulsating heat pipe.

  • The development of polishing technology has enabled the production of injection molds with high quality surfaces and shapes. For products such as mobile phones which require high quality performance the use of plastic materials has many constraints such as shrinkage and deflection. The purpose of the current research is to use reverse engineering in order to find and analyze the data of a selected aspherical lens and then creating a process to design an improved lens. Additionally, the improved lenses are subject to molding analysis. In order to solve this problem, the lens construction program, Zemax, was used to analyze and optimize performance. In the case of optimization, the object was to eliminate spherical aberration and to find good MTF data. The result of the optimization data was similar to the MTF data found from a random lens. Specific resin and analysis conditions were selected and CAD modeling was done to enhance the injection molding analysis.

  • In this paper, we propose Two-Dimensional Robust Face Recognition System Realized with the Aid of Facial Symmetry with Illumination Variation. Preprocessing process is carried out to obtain mirror image which means new image rearranged by using difference between light and shade of right and left face based on a vertical axis of original face image. After image preprocessing, high dimensional image data is transformed to low-dimensional feature data through 2-directional and 2-dimensional Principal Component Analysis (2D)2PCA, which is one of dimensional reduction techniques. Polynomial-based Radial Basis Function Neural Network pattern classifier is used for face recognition. While FCM clustering is applied in the hidden layer, connection weights are defined as a linear polynomial function. In addition, the coefficients of linear function are learned through Weighted Least Square Estimation(WLSE). The Structural as well as parametric factors of the proposed classifier are optimized by using Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO). In the experiment, Yale B data is employed in order to confirm the advantage of the proposed methodology designed in the diverse illumination variation

  • This paper presents a position error recognition system when the wafer is mounted in cleaning equipment among the wafer manufacturing processes. The proposed system is to enhance the performance in cost and reliability by preventing the wafer cleaning system from damaging by alerting it when it is put in correct position. The key algorithms are the calibration method between image acquired from camera and physical wafer, a infrared lighting and the design of the filter, and the extraction of wafer boundary and the position error recognition resulting from generation of circle based on least square method. The system is to install in-line process using high reliable and high accurate position recognition. The experimental results show that the performance is good in detecting errors within tolerance.

  • Democratization and advancement of a society requires the Government's commitment to evidence-based policy. Though statistic is known as one of the best available evidence, there has been only a few case studies to tell real stories about using statistics for policy making. The object of this study is to suggest some real stories about using the Housing Purchase Price Survey for some property policies. By reviewing the origin and development of the survey, we evaluate the design and analysis strategies adopted in the survey. In addition, we describe how the Housing Purchase Price Indices have been used by the Government for some property policies.

  • In recent years, crime has been steadily increasing, causing not only economic damage but also aggravating the social atmosphere. The CPTED(Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) guideline, which is an environmental crime prevention design technique, reduces the possibility of crime by implementing a proper defensive design plan through appropriate lighting design in the city and reduces the fear of crime. Among the various principles of CPTED, the proper use of street lamps and CCTV is considered to be an important factor in enabling natural surveillance. In this study, the authors identified and quantified the current status of the installation of street lamps and CCTV in each autonomous district of Seoul. The physical quantity of lighting and social factor quantified from light lamps and CCTV data, respectively, were expected to support the guidelines presented by CPTED. Therefore, we conducted statistical analysis based on quantified values and found that street lamps and CCTV had a statistically significant relationship with crime rate. In addition, the correlation between the safety index and the crime rate, calculated by dividing the number of street lamps and CCTVs by area, was also analyzed and an R2 value of 0.647 was confirmed.

  • When a mail was given to users, each user's response could be different according to his or her preference. This paper presents a solution for this situation by constructing a u!;or preferred ontology for anti-spam systems. To define an ontology for describing user behaviors, we applied associative classification mining to study preference information of users and their responses to emails. Generated classification rules can be represented in a formal ontology language. A user preferred ontology can explain why mail is decided to be spam or non-spam in a meaningful way. We also suggest a nor rule optimization procedure inspired from logic synthesis to improve comprehensibility and exclude redundant rules.

  • The floodlighting assists the pilot in taxiing the aircraft into and out of the final parking position and provide lighting suitable for passenger to embark and debark and for personnel to load and unload cargo. It is composed of sodium lamps which is consuming high energy. It needs to develop a dedicated LED lamp to replace the existing lamps. In this paper, We propose a suitable asymmetric angle of LED lamps to avoid a pilot's glare and to meet the standard illumination. For this, we analyze asymmetric angle of sodium lamps which are using in airport and confirm whether the illumination distribution and glare index meet the relating standards by using simulation method. Also, we study the needs of asymmetric characteristics of LED ramp by simulating the LED lamps with and without asymmetric characteristics of ramp respectively. With the simulation result, finally we propose the best asymmetric angle of LED lamp to meet the average illumination standard, and avoid a pilot's glare.
