  • Positively biased asymmetry between positive and negative cognition is the basic assumption of heuristic human functioning. This article describes the SOM(states of mind) model for emotional judgement, a psycho-mathematical model built on affective-cognitive assessment research on the balance of positive and negative thoughts and feelings. The SOM model suggests that subjects on the average choose a positive over a negative pole with the probability 0.62 and the precise value of this constant coincides with algebraic “golden section” .618:.382. Statistical analyses of 32 normal subjects shows that the mean of SOM ratios of self-referent judgement and incidental recall task for positive/negative emotional words are .62(SD=.08) and .58(SD=.4). Also, the SOM ratios are significantly correlated with self-referent judgement for positive/negative emotional words. Implications of cognitive balance and future research directions for emotional science are discussed.

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate the responses to positive/negative emotional stimuli for the different sensitivities of behavioral activation system (BAS) and behavioral inhibition system (BIS). We recorded If-channel EEG data for 8 BAS sensitive subjects an48 BIS sensitive subjects. EEGs were analyzed with LORETA (Low-resolution electromagnetic tomography) From scalp-recorded electrical potential distribution, LORETA computes the three-dimensional intracerebral distributions of current density for specified EEG frequency bands. hs results , significant differences between the BAS sensitive group ant the BIS sensitive group appeared LORETA alpha activities over the prefrontal lobe and the cingulate gyrus. Prefrontal regions and limbic system including cingulate gyrus are involved in emotional processing. Moreover, subjects with the high BAS sensitivity. responded more sensitively to the positive stimulation than subjects with the high BIS sensitivity. Therefore, our results suggest the possibility of correlation between BAS/BIS sensitivity and positive/negative emotional stimuli.

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to examine the related factors of quality of life (QOL) among middle-male with chronic liver disease. Method: The participants in this study were 110 patients with chronic liver disease who were recruited from the outpatient clinic of hospital. Between March and May 2014, data were collected through questionnaires and medical record review. Data analysis was performed using PASW (SPSS) 19.0 program, and one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and enter multiple regression analysis. Results: The mean QOL of this study was 48.16/100. The significant correlates of QOL were anxiety-depression (${\beta}$=.33, p<.001), symptom experience (${\beta}$=.15, p=.001), health perception(${\beta}$=.31, p<.001), disease status(${\beta}$=.17, p=.022), spouse (${\beta}$=.23, p=.001), and these variables explained 68.6% of variance in QOL. Conclusion: The study suggests that psychological aspects are an important factor in explaining QOL of the middle-male with chronic liver disease. Screening and minimizing anxiety-depression could be effective strategies in enhancing QOL of middle-male with chronic liver disease.

  • We try to explore the effect of the emotions of viewers caused by the insertion of the in-program adversiging on the advertising effect. To test our hypotheses, we collected the data through two lab experiments and analyze the data with t-test. The results are as follows. First, high engagement to the media contents impacts positively on the feeling of viewer's irritation when the movie clip is interrupted and an in-program advertising is inserted. Second, the negative emotions of the irration are congruented, which affect the attitude of the advertised product negatively. On the other hand, the irritation caused by the in-program advertising had a positive effect on the brand awareness and memory(recall) of the advertised product because of high state of arousal. These results enrich the understanding about the role of in-program advertising which affect viewer's feeling and behvior. Moreover, these findings provides managerial implications to help advertising managers manage their in-program advertising more effectively.

  • Analyzing the 2009 Korean General Social Survey(KGSS), this study attempts to elucidate the mechanism how content-irrelevant response patterns are formed in the social survey. This study investigates the relationship between personality traits and response styles. Specifically, the effects of Big Five factors(extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, openness to experience) of personality on the acquiescent response styles(ARS) and extreme response styles(ERS) are examined, controlling for individual characteristics and interview contexts. The results show that ERS is positively affected by extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness, and conscientiousness, whereas ARS is not significantly associated with any dimension of personality traits. The implications of findings and the methods to reduce response bias are discussed.
