  • This study was conducted to analyze the effects of parents' self-esteem on preschool aged children's emotional responses and attention, mediated by their self-esteem, utilizing data from the 7th Panel Study of Korean Children. This study analyzed the main survey of the 7th year survey of the Panel Study on Korean Children and 1383 families from which both parents participated in the survey (1383 couples of parents and 1383 children). The results revealed that mother's self-esteem had a direct effect on children's self-esteem and that children's self-esteem had direct effects on their emotional responses and attention. Mother's self-esteem also had direct effects on children's emotional responses and attention, as well as indirect effects on their emotional responsiveness and attention, and these effects were mediated by parents' self-esteem. Overall, the study revealed the impact of parents' self-esteem on children's emotional responsiveness and attention and provided basic data for the development of an education program for preschool aged children and parents. Thus, it is necessary to develop educational programs to improve preschool aged children's self-esteem and to develop a program for the formation and maintenance of mother's positive self-esteem.

  • Purpose: This study analyzes the association between depression, emotional eating, and dietary practices, and investigates the mediating effects of emotional eating between depression and dietary practice. Methods: A total of 345 women aged 40-59 years participated in the Seoul and Gyeonggido region. Assessments were achieved by self-reported questionnaires for emotional eating (Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire), Nutrition Quotients (NQ), and depression (Patient Health Questionnaire-9). Results: Analyzing the NQ scores by considering the depression group, revealed that compared to the normal group, balance, diversity, and eating behavior scores were lower in the depression group, whereas the moderation score was lower in the borderline depression group and depression group. The emotional eating scores were determined to be higher in the depression group than in the normal group. Partial correlation analysis between depression, emotional eating, and NQ revealed that depression is positively correlated with emotional eating and negatively correlated with all other factors of the nutrition quotient, balance, diversity, moderation, and eating behavior. Among the nutrition quotient factors considered, emotional eating was determined to be negatively correlated with both diversity and moderation. The bootstrapping method was applied to analyze the mediating effect of emotional eating for determining the association between depression and NQ. Results indicate that among the nutrition quotient factors evaluated using emotional eating as a medium, depression exerted a negative effect on moderation. Conclusion: Results of this study confirm that emotional eating, as a medium, affects the intake of unhealthy foods especially when depression is associated with dietary practices.

  • Common theories of affect underscore valence and arousal dimensions or specific emotion. However, given the role of affect in transacting social behavior, sociality may determine the subjective experience and interpersonal response to positive stimuli. The current study examined the relationships between social positive affect and perspective taking as well as positive coping. One potential moderating effect of agreeableness on these relations was also examined. In two experiments, film segments induced socially and non-socially generated positive affects. We hypothesized and found that positive affect associated with sociality would enhance perspective taking ability and positive coping, while non-social positive affect would not. Moreover, these effects varied as a function of the level of agreeableness. These findings suggest that the social/non-social dimension influenced which positive affects elicited perspective taking and positive coping, which could not be explained by differences in subjective emotional valence or arousal. Taken together, these findings have important implications, as they point toward a previously overlooked relation linking sociality to positive affect.

  • This study aims to investigate the effect of husbands' emotional abuse on wives' depression and mediating effects of marital adjustment and coping. The subject of this study is wives of men who had completed batterer intervention programs at domestic violence counselling centers. In order to investigate the effect of emotional abuse, among the 116 questionnaires collected by wives the cases in which physical violence was reported were excluded. Ultimately, a total of 77 cases were analyzed using the Partial Least Square method of structural equation model methodology. The key findings from this study are as follows. First, the wives in this study showed a high rate of exposure to emotional abuse by their husbands although the physical violence was gone. Second, emotional abuse by husbands significantly affected depression on their wives. Third, marital adjustment was found to have a mediating effect on the relationship between the emotional abuse and the depression. Fourth, a mediating effect from passive coping was revealed; in particular, avoiding was the most powerful factor explaining the relationship between the emotional abuse and the depression. However, active coping failed to mediate the relationship between the emotional abuse and the depression.

  • This study examined the conditional indirect effect of EEG (electroencephalogram) arousal on the relationship among affective valence, visual attention, perceived self-relevance, and attitudes toward campaign issues in the context of public service announcements (PSAs). Using SPSS macro (No. 14) of conditional process model, the findings in this current study indicated that the perceived self-relevance mediates the relationship between affective valence of PSA and attitudes toward issues and, in turn, is moderated by EEG arousal, indicating goodness-of-fit of the moderated mediation of psychophysiological arousal on PSAs. The results suggested that management of PSAs should be considered the strategic combination between affective valence and perceived self-relevance in advertising appeals.

  • This study is to examine the relationships between emotional labor, job stress, and job burnout of staff accountants. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, frequency of emotional display has a negative impact on job stress, but emotional dissonance is not associated with job stress statistically. And all types of emotional labor(emotional display, emotional variety, emotional dissonance) have no significant effects on job burnout. Second, all types of emotional labor have no significant impacts on job burnout. Third, full mediation by job stress is proved in the relations between frequency of emotional display and job burnout and between emotional variety and job burnout. But emotional labor doesn't directly impact on job burnout but it influences job burnout via job stress indirectly. These results provide a meaningful framework and theoretical basis for future research on emotional labor, job stress, and job burnout.

  • The aim of this paper is to establish the theoretical foundation on "the integrative study of the character education for the promotion of social and emotional competencies of children.". Based on the social and emotional learning(SEL), this paper is tried to find out the effective ways to develop children's good character. According to SEL, social and emotional competence is the ability to understand, manage, and express the social and emotional aspects of one's life in ways that enable the successful management of life tasks such as learning, forming relationships, solving everyday problems, and adapting to the complex demands of growth and development. And it is also the process of acquiring and effectively applying the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to recognize and manage emotions. Five key competencies such as self-awareness, social awareness, responsible decision making, self-management, relationship skills are taught, practiced, and reinforced through SEL programming. Both the social and emotional learning movement and the character education share in common the idea that much of human character can be modified for the better through learning. While character educators engage in developing civic virtue and moral character in our youth for more compassionate and responsible society, SEL educators engage in educating for a safe, secure, caring society. To effectively teach social and emotional competencies, the teachers themselves must embrace a teaching and learning philosophy that models the attitudes, feelings, and behaviors we aim to teach.

Empirical research is conducted to statistically test the model using SEM and empirically confirms followings: (a) positive effect of servicescape and IT on both of job satisfaction and affective commitment, which, in turn, positively influences on service behavior, (b) positive effect of affective commitment and service behavior on service recovery, and (c) significant indirect effect of job satisfaction on service recovery meditated by service behavior. Results suggest that there are direct and indirect effects on service performance of servicescape and information technology through job satisfaction and affective commitment. This paper is concluded with the summarized result and contribution of this study, managerial implication of the research findings, and further research issues.
