  • Problematic behaviors have been among adolescent population in school and home. Problematic behavior manifested in childhood and adolescence is reported to be a good predictor for adult criminal behavior although no clear factor to cause was identified. Based on literature review on this subject, our hypotheses that delinquency and aggressive behaviors are associated with brain information processing and emotionality in adolescents was developed and this study aimed to test these hypotheses. 1,479 male and female middle school students were selected and given the Trait Meta-Mood Scale, Korea Youth Self Report-Child Behavior Check List and Brain Preference Indicator Test. The main results are as follows: 1) Subjects with problematic behavior compared to average students showed a significant difference in sub-variables of emotionality ant the characteristics of brain information processing. 2) Young adolescent's emotionality and brain information processing characteristics have effects on problematic behaviors. 3) However, the effect on aggression and delinquency was different by gender.

  • Behavioral studies of emotion recognition in autism spectrum disorders (ASD) have yielded mixed results. Most of the studies focused on emotion recognition abilities with regard to ASD using stimuli with unisensory modality, making it difficult to determine difficulties in real life emotion perception in ASD. Herein, we review the recent behavioral and cognitive neuroscience studies on emotion recognition functions in ASD, including both unisensory and multisensory emotional information, to elucidate the possible difficulties in emotion recognition in ASD. In our study, we discovered that people with ASD have problems in the process of integrating emotional information during emotion recognition tasks. The following four points are discussed: (1) The restrictions of previous studies, (2) deficits in emotion recognition in ASD especially in recognizing multisensory information, (3) possible compensation mechanisms for emotion recognition in ASD, and (4) the possible roles of attention and language functions in emotion recognition in ASD. The compensatory mechanisms proposed herein for ASD with regard to emotion recognition abilities could contribute to a therapeutic approach for improving emotion recognition functions in ASD.

  • The aim of this paper is to establish the theoretical foundation on "the integrative study of the character education for the promotion of social and emotional competencies of children.". Based on the social and emotional learning(SEL), this paper is tried to find out the effective ways to develop children's good character. According to SEL, social and emotional competence is the ability to understand, manage, and express the social and emotional aspects of one's life in ways that enable the successful management of life tasks such as learning, forming relationships, solving everyday problems, and adapting to the complex demands of growth and development. And it is also the process of acquiring and effectively applying the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to recognize and manage emotions. Five key competencies such as self-awareness, social awareness, responsible decision making, self-management, relationship skills are taught, practiced, and reinforced through SEL programming. Both the social and emotional learning movement and the character education share in common the idea that much of human character can be modified for the better through learning. While character educators engage in developing civic virtue and moral character in our youth for more compassionate and responsible society, SEL educators engage in educating for a safe, secure, caring society. To effectively teach social and emotional competencies, the teachers themselves must embrace a teaching and learning philosophy that models the attitudes, feelings, and behaviors we aim to teach.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of aging on visuo-spatial attention allocation ability and emotional perception bias. We used the useful field of view (UFOV) task to measure the visuo-spatial attention allocation ability and the emotional perception task to measure positive and negative emotional perception bias. A total of 48 participants took part in this study with 23 participants in the senior group and 25 in the junior group. The senior group showed slower response time and lower accuracy than the junior group in the UFOV task, indicating that the senior group had lower visuo-spatial attention allocation ability than the junior group. In the emotional perception task, the senior group showed both positive and negative emotional perception bias more than the junior group. The correlation analysis showed that the negative emotional perception bias for accuracy in the emotional perception task showed a positive correlation with the response time to the stimuli presented in the visual angle 30° in the UFOV task (r=.289). In addition, positive emotional perception bias for the accuracy in the emotional perception task showed a positive correlation with the accuracy of the stimuli presented in the visual angles 10°, 20°, and 30° in the UFOV task (r=.305, r=.322, and r=.299, respectively). However, it showed a negative correlation with the response time of the stimuli presented in the same location in the UFOV task (r=-.345, r=-.295, r=-.308). These results suggest that aging is associated with a decrease in the visuo-spatial attention allocation ability and perceptual bias toward positive and negative emotions. In addition, the positive and negative emotional perception biases associated with aging are potentially related to the reduced visuo-spatial attention allocation ability.

  • This study was done to explore the relationship alcoholcs' body image, belief emotion expression, communication competence and related factors. Alcoholcs' body image, belief emotion expression, communication competence level scales were used as the measurement tools with a sample of 151 students from 2 hospitals in J-city and S-city. T-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 21.0 version were used to analyze the data. Alcoholcs' body-image was negatively correlated with belief emotion expression but was negatively correlated with communication competence. Belief emotion expression was negatively correlated with communication competence. Hierarchical regression analysis showed that body-image, education degree, and belief emotion expression explained 24.9 % of communication competence. The results of this study can be used as basic data to improve the communication competence of alcoholics.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of adaptive-maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies in relationship between communication competence and problem-solving capacity. Subjects were 189 male collegiate athletes. The results were as follows: Their communication competence had a positive influence on their problem-solving capacity, and their adaptive emotion regulation strategies had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between communication competence and problem-solving capacity. But the maladaptive emotion regulation strategy did not have a statistically significant relationship with communication competence or problem-solving capacity. This result suggests that the communication competence and customized adaptive emotion regulation strategies are necessary to improve the problem-solving capacity of collegiate athletes.
