Latent heat storage system using micro-encapsuled phase change material is effective method for floor heating of house and building. The temperature profile in capsule block and flow rate of hot water are important parameters for the development of heat storage system. In the present study, a mathematical model based on 3-D, non-steady state, Navier-Stokes equations, scalar conservation equations and turbulence model ($\kappa$-$\varepsilon$), is used to predict the temperature profiles in capsule and the velocity vectors in hot water pipe. The multi-block grids and fine grids embedding are used to join the circle in hot water pipe and square in capsule block. The phase change process of the capsule is quite complex not only because the size of phase change material is very small, but also because phase change material is mixed with the cement to form thermal storage block. In calculation, it's assumed that the phenomena of phase change is limited only the thermal properties of phase change material and the change of boundary is not happened in capsule. The purpose of this study is to calculate the temperature profiles in capsule block and velocity vectors in hot water pipe using the numerical calculation. Two kinds of thermal boundary condition were considered, the first (case 1) is the adiabatic condition for the both outside surfaces of the wall, the second (case 2) is the case in which one surface is natural convection with atmosphere and another surface is adaibatic. Calculation results are shown that the temperature profile in capsule block for case 1 is higher than that for case 2 due to less heat loss in adaibatic surface. Specially, in the domain of near Y=0, the difference of temperature is greater in case 1 than in case 2. The detailed experimental data of capsule block on the temperature profile and the thermal properties such as specific heat and coefficient of heat transfer with the various temperature are required to predict more exact phenomena of heat transfer.

Natural convection heat transfer from a horizontal ice cylinder immersed in quiescent cold pure water was studied experimentally. The experiment was conducted for the ambient water temperatures ranging from $2.0^{\cric}C$ to $10.0^{\circ}C$. The flow fields around an ice cylinder and its melting shapes were visualized and local Nusselt numbers obtained. Especially, its attention was focused on the density maximum effects and stagnation point Nusselt number. From the visualized photographs of flow fields, three distinct flow patterns were observed with the ambient water temperature variation. The melting shapes of ice cylinder are various in shape with flow patterns. Steady state upflow was occured at the range of $2.0^{\circ}C \leq T_{\infty} \leq 4.6^{\circ}C$ and steady state downflow was occured at $T_{\infty} \geq 6.0^{\circ}C$. In the range of $4.7^{\circ}C < T_{\infty} < 6.0^{\circ}C$, three-dimensional unsteady state flow was observed. Especially, the melting shapes of ice cylinder have formed the several spiral flutes for the temperatures ranging from $5.5^{\circ}C$ to $5.8^{\circ}C$. For upflow regime, the maximum stagnation point Nusselt number exists at $T_{\infty} = 2.5^{\circ}C$ and as the ambient water temperature increases the Nusselt number decreases. At ambient water temperature of about $5.7^{\circ}C$, Nusselt number shows its minimum value.
The characteristics of thermal boundary layer flow of a micropolar fluid in the vicinity of a wedge has been studied with constant surface temperature. The similarity variables found by Falkner and Skan are employed to reduce the streamwise-dependence in the coupled nonlinear boundary layer equations. Numerical solutions are presented for the heat transfer characteristics with Pr=1 using the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method and their dependence on the material parameters is discussed. The distributions of dimensionless temperature and Nusselt number across the boundary layer are compared with the corresponding flow problems for a Newtonian fluid over wedges. Numerical results show that for a constant wedge angle with a given Prandtl number, Pr=1, the effect of increasing values of K results in an increasing thermal boundary thickness for a micropolar fluid, as compared with a Newtonian fluid. For the case of the constant material parameter K, however, the heat transfer rate for a micropolar fluid is lower than that of a Newtonian fluid.

A probe card is used in testing semiconductor wafers. It must maintain a precise location tolerance for a fine pitch due to highly densified chips. However, high heat transferred from its lower chuck causes thermal deformations of the probe card. Vertical deformation due to the heat will bring contact problems to the pins in the probe card, while horizontal deformation will cause positional inaccuracies. Therefore, probe cards must be designed with proper materials and structures so that the thermal deformations are within allowable tolerances. In this paper, heat transfer analyses under realistic loading conditions are simulated using ANSYS$^{TM}$ finite element analysis program. Thermal deformations are calculated based on steady-state temperature gradients, and an optimal structure of the probe card is proposed by adjusting a set of relevant design parameters so that the deformations are minimized.
In the present study, the thermal performance of multiple rock caverns for large-scale thermal energy storage (TES) was numerically investigated for different separation distances between the caverns through heat transfer analysis using a computational fluid dynamics code, FLUENT. The thermal performance of multiple caverns was assessed in terms of the thermal stratification within the caverns and the heat loss to the surroundings, and the heating characteristics of the rock around the caverns were investigated. The results of numerical simulation showed that there was little difference in thermal performance between multiple TES caverns with different separation distances when the surrounding rock was less heated and it reached thermal steady-state, which represent the thermal states of the surrounding rock at the early and long-term operational stages of the TES caverns, respectively. However, as the separation distance decreased, the rock between the caverns reached thermal steady-state more quickly, and thus the heat loss from the caverns tended to converge rapidly to the value of heat loss occurred under thermal steady-state conditions in the surrounding rock. This result implies that the operating cost of heating the surrounding rock (i.e., rock heating) can be reduced with a reduction in the separation distance between multiple caverns, and suggests that the separation distance should be determined by considering the operating cost of rock heating as well as the construction cost of the caverns.

The performance analysis of the 70 W class LED lighting system suitable for the Middle East environment was performed using the lumped parameter model. The LED light is composed of a heating substrate, a heat pipe, and a heat sink. We divided the LED lights into four objects and applied energy equilibrium to each of them to establish four lumped nonlinear differential equations. The solution of the simultaneous equations was obtained by the Runge-Kutta method. Convective heat transfer coefficients of the lumped model were obtained by multidimensional CFD analysis. As a result of comparison with experiment, it was found that the heating substrate had an error of $1.5^{\circ}C$ and the upper heat sink had an error of $1.8^{\circ}C$ and the relative error was about 0.6 %. Using this model, temperature distribution analysis was performed for normal operating conditions with an ambient temperature of $55^{\circ}C$, with sunlight only, with abnormal operating conditions with sunlight, and without an upper heat sink.

The present study analyzed the effect of film hole position of 45 degree ribbed cooling channel on film cooling performance of gas turbine blades. We also investigated the influence of the ribs under the fixed blowing ratio. Three-dimensional numerical model was constructed and extensive simulation was conducted using the commercial code (Fluent ver. 17.0) under steady-state condition. Base on the simulation results, We investigated the cooling effectiveness, flow velocity, streamline, and pressure coefficient. Moreover, We analyzed the effect of cooling hole position on ejection of the secondary flow caused by the rib structure. From the results, It was found that internal flow of the cooling channel forms a vortex pair in the counterclockwise from the top side, and clockwise from the bottom side. For the channels with ribs, the vortex flow generated by the ribs caused a higher pressure difference near the hole outlet, resulting in at least 12% higher cooling effectiveness than the channel without ribs. Additionally, when the hole is located on the left side of the ribbed channel (Rib-Left), it can be found that the secondary flow generated by the ribs hits against wall surface near the hole to form a flow in the direction of the hole inclination angle. Therefore, It is considered that the region where the cooling gas discharged to the blade surface stays in the main flow boundary layer is wider than the other cases. In this case, The largest pressure coefficient difference was observed near the outlet of the hole, and as a result, the discharge of the cooling gas was accelerated and the cooling efficiency was slightly increased.
