Purpose: To compare corneal asphericity, visual acuity (VA), and ocular and corneal higher-order aberrations (HOAs) between myopic refractive surgery and emmetropia groups. Methods: Twenty three subjects ($23.0{\pm}2.5$ years) who underwent myopic refractive surgery and twenty emmetropia ($21.0{\pm}206$ years) were enrolled. The subjects'criteria were best unaided monocular VA of 20/20 or better in both two groups. High and low contrast log MAR visual acuities were measured under photopic and mesopic conditions. Corneal and ocular HOAs were measured using Wavefront Analyzer (KR-1W, Topcon) for 4 mm and 6 mm pupils. Corneal asphericity was taken by topography in KR-1W. Results: There was no significant difference in VA between two groups under either photopic or mesopic conditions. In ocular aberrations, there were significant differences in total HOAs, fourthorder and spherical aberration (SA) for a 6 mm between two groups (p=0.045, p<0.001, and p<0.001, respectively). In corneal aberrations, there was a significant difference in SA for 4 mm (p=0.001) and 6 mm (p<0.001) pupils between two groups and there were statistically significant differences in total HOAs (p<0.001) and fourth-order aberrations (p<0.001) between two groups for a 6 mm pupil. There was a significant correlation in emmetropia between Q-value and SA in ocular aberrations for 4 mm and 6 mm pupils (r=0.442, p=0.004, and r=0.519, p<0.001) and in corneal aberrations for 4 mm and 6 mm pupils (r=0.358, p=0.023, and r=0.646, p<0.001). No significant correlations were found between Q-value and SA in refractive surgery group. Conclusions: VA in myopic refractive surgery is better than or similar to emmetropia. Nevertheless, the more increasing pupil size is, the more increasing aberrations are. Thus, it could have an influence on the quality of vision at night.

A numerical model is developed to predict the shoreline change by the coastal structures constructed. In order to describe the wave deformation at the shadow zone of the structure, the present model employs the mild-slope equation in steady state and the wave ray method using the coefficients of wave refraction, diffraction and shoaling. In the model results of shoreline changes for the various structures. it showed a qualitative agreement with the findings observed in the field such as tombolo, and the response of this model was found to be very sensitive to the longshore distribution of wave heights. It was also applied to a field area. From the results of the application this model is proved to be useful around the complex coastal structures and bottom topography.
The effective reflection coefficients of an obliquely incident wave on a multi-layered substrate coated with a uniaxially anisotropic alignment layer are derived. The effective reflection coefficients as well as explicit ellipsometric expressions are provided as a function of film constants of multiple layers together with magnitude of anisotropy, direction of optic axis, and thickness of the alignment layer. It is expected that by adapting these expressions to the conventional modelling technique, the ordinary refractive index, the extra-ordinary refractive index, the azimuth angle and the tilt angle of the optic axis, and the thickness of the aligned surface can be determined simultaneously together with the thickness and volume fraction of each layer beneath the alignment layer.

Planar optical waveguides which have a higher refractive index than that of substrate were fabricated by proton exchange between $Li^+$ and $H^+$. Benzoic acid was used as proton source and process was carried out under the various reaction time and temperature. The depth of waveguide layer and the generated mode number were investigated by standard prism coupler. The cut-off depth for the fabrication of single mode optical waveguides was obtained by the function which was expressed on refractive index profile. Finally the experimental conditions for cut-of depth of single mode could be confirmed. Channel waveguides were manufactured from these confirmed conditions and the effective confinement of the induced light into waveguides was observed.
This paper presents a new approaching method to determine the velocity and geometry of shallow subsurface from seismic refraction events. After picking the first breaks from seismic refraction data, we assume that field refraction seismogram can be replaced by the unit delta function having time shift of first break. Time curves are generated by shooting ray tracing. The partial derivatives seismogram for a damped least squares method is computed analytically at each step of the forward ray tracing. The technique is successfully tested on synthetic and real data. It has the advantage of real full waveform inversion, which is robust at low frequency band even if the initial guess is far from the true model.

Three-dimensional models of stenosis blood vessels were prepared using a 3D printer. The models included a straight pipe with axisymmetric stenosis and a pipe that was bent $10^{\circ}$ from the center of stenosis. A refractive index matching method was utilized to measure accurate velocity fields inside the 3D tubes. Three different pulsatile flows were generated and controlled by changing the rotational speed frequency of the peristaltic pump. Unsteady velocity fields were measured by a time-resolved particle image velocimetry method. Periodic shedding of vortices occurred and moves depended on the maximum velocity region. The sizes and the positions of the vortices and symmetry are influenced by mean Reynolds number and tube geometry. In the case of the bent pipe, a recirculation zone observed at the post-stenosis could explain the possibility of blood clot formation and blood clot adhesion in view of hemodynamics.
Purpose: This study is for compared the change of corneal refractive power before and after wearing of rigid gas permeable contact lense with diagnostic method which is 1 D flatter than alignment fitting on right eye and alignment fitting on left eye for 2 months and investigate the preference. Methods: Twenty middle school and high school students (40 eyes) who had never worn a contact lense before for no corneal topographical change, no ocular disease, no experience of ophthalmic surgery and have normal tear amount were selected for this study and corneal refractive power were examined before wearing rigid gas permeable contact lense and adaptation status and corneal examination were performed after 10 days of wearing and after cheking up the continuation of wearing, all candidate wear contact lens 8 hours per day for 2 month and corneal refractive power were compared. Results: After 2 months of wearing with 1 D flatter than the alignment fitting on right eyes, there was significant difference in the central corneal refractive power was $43.84{\pm}1.33D$, flat K power was $43.05{\pm}1.29D$, and steep K power was $44.61{\pm}1.42D$ decreased than before wearing (p<0.001, 0.001, 0.047). The e-value of the principal meridians also shows statistically significant difference (p=0.037, 0.015). After 2 months of wearing with alignment fitting on left eyes, the central corneal refractive power was $44.40{\pm}1.26D$, flat K power was $43.57{\pm}1.23D$. and flat K e-value was $0.58{\pm}0.05$ which showed no statistically significant difference (p = 0.769, 0.614, 0.181). But steep K power was $45.25{\pm}1.36$, and steep K e-value was $0.45{\pm}0.18$ which shows statistically significant difference (p=0.018, 0.027). Conclusions: Consider the comfort, clear vision, dryness for preference fitting investment, 6 students (30%) prefer right eye which is 1 D flatter fitting, 14 students (70%) prefer left eye which is alignment fitting. For rigid gas permeable fitting needed for accurate examination and should prescribe the alignment fitting which is suitable for each cornea.

Purpose:This study was conducted to research any effect on aided distance visual acuity and refractive error changes by using smartphone at near for long term. Methods: 20($20.6{\pm}0.9$ years) young adults subjects with no ocular diseases, over 0.8 of aided distance visual acuity, normal amplitude of accommodation and normal accommodative facility agreed to participate in this study. The subjects were divided into two group, Group 1 (15 cm fixation distance) included 10 subjects and Group 2(40 cm fixation distance) included 10 subjects. Aided distance visual acuity and refractive error were measured before and after using smartphone for 30 minutes by auto-chart project (CP-1000, Dongyang, Korea), phoropter (VT-20, Dongyang, Korea), auto refractor-keratometer (MRK-3100, Huvitz, Korea). After then, the subjects looked at distance with wearing spectacles. Refractive error was measured at 5 minutes, 10 minutes, and 15 minutes later, respectively. Results: After using smartphone at 15 cm for 30 minutes, there was statistically significant reduction of aided distance visual acuity (p=0.030) and increasing myopia (p=0.001). The increased myopia was not statistically significant after 5 minutes rest (p${\geq}$0.464). However there was no statistically significant changes in aided distance visual acuity (p=0.163) and refractive error (p=0.077) after using smartphone at 40 cm for 30 minutes. Conclusions: It is recommend to keep 40 cm off the smartphone from eyes to avoid any aided distance visual acuity and refractive error changes. If smartphone is used closer than 40 cm, a rest for 5 minutes is also recommend after every 30 minutes use with smartphone to avoid any aided distance visual acuity and refractive error changes.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the property of heterophoria and fusional reserve in Adults in Jeon-buk Area. We examined the corrected visual acuity, corrected refractive error, heterophoria and fusional reserve of 116 healthy myopes aged from 20 to 44 old who had no strabismus no ocular and phyisical diseases. Using Von Graefe test of horizontal heterophoria Measurement, we measured orthophoria(26.7%), exophoria(52.5%) and esophoria(20.7%) for at near distance. The subjects who had exophoria of 0-6${\Delta}$ in the range of normal state was 38.8%, while the subjects who had exophoria in the range of abnormal state was 61.2%. Reducing fusional reserve was associated with increasing phoria. We found a relationship between asthenopia and fusional reserve of heterophoria and considered that fusional reserve must be examined when we preserve for a patient with heterophoria. Furthermore, Gradient method AC/A ratio was found 4.03 and its relationship to refractive error could not be determined.
Introduction of wave model, take into account the effect of tide, wind and wave induced currents at the coastal waters of complex bathymetry, is a very important factor for most coastal engineering design and disaster protection problems. As the steady state spectral wave model could simulate depth induced wave shoaling and refraction, current induced refraction effect, steepness induced wave breaking, diffraction, wind wave growth, wave-wave interaction, and wave-current interaction that redistribute energy, this would support and compensate the gap in the real field of design where other wave models could not deal and cause wrong estimation. In this study, for better understanding and analysis of wave transformation process, we applied the spectral wave model to the large coastal waters near Gaduck Island where the Busan new port construction project is going on. We also compared the simulation results with the calculatea from the existing model. From such a trial of this study, we hope that broader and safer use of the spectral model in the area of port design and disaster prevention system come through in near future.
