  • The role of an archivist should include not only traditional archives management but also new archives management based on an understanding of electronic records and information technology. In this study, to verify the adequacy and content validity of the components, knowledge categories, and knowledge contents of the guideline for a graduate program in archival studies, the Delphi survey was carried out. As a result of the Delphi survey, the components of the guideline consisted of "preface," "curriculum," "faculty," "structure of the learning process," "administrative resources," and "conclusions," and the educational content consisted of 8 knowledge categories and 44 knowledge contents. This study aims to present the minimum components to be followed in the graduate program of archival science through the development of the guideline model and present educational contents to educate archivists with theoretical and practical capabilities. The model can be used as basic data for a future guideline for a graduate program in archival studies.

Data was collected through interviews, literature review, and analysis of the USC SLIS homepage. A number of features in USC SLIS can be implemented in Korea and gain positive results. In the near future, some of the features that can be introduced in Korean universities to strengthen their programs may include: setting distinct objectives for MA and Ph. D programs, constructing the aims and courses of doctoral programs in the direction of improving the research skills of students, and increasing the number of courses on Children and Juvenile. In the long term, students will also benefit from other changes such as adjusting courses to train school librarians and offering double-major tracks for graduate students.

  • In the era of knowledge and information society, specialists with a specific concentration are more appreciated than broad knowledge. Therefore, it is a growing trend that universities and departments restructure their vision and plans to foster specialized professionals. While responding to the needs of working libraries and adhering to the basic educational goals, the Programs of the library and information science sector should be flexible to the external changes. In this sense, each university should develop customized curriculum based on its related policies, resources, and surrounding circumstances, with an emphasis on specialization over standardization. This paper discusses how to build specialized education programs in line with specific environments that each university is surrounded with, and by doing so, raise information professionals with specialized concentrations.
