We investigate the effect of the data skew of join attributes on the performance of a pipelined multi-way hash join method, and propose two new hash join methods with load balancing capabilities. The first proposed method allocates buckets statically by round-robin fashion, and the second one allocates buckets adaptively via a frequency distribution. Using hash-based joins, multiple joins can be pipelined so that the early results from a join, before the whole join is completed, are sent to the next join processing without staying on disks. Unless the pipelining execution of multiple hash joins includes some load balancing mechanisms, the skew effect can severely deteriorate system performance. In this paper, we derive an execution model of the pipeline segment and a cost model, and develop a simulator for the study. As shown by our simulation with a wide range of parameters, join selectivities and sizes of relations deteriorate the system performance as the degree of data skew is larger. But the proposed method using a large number of buckets and a tuning technique can offer substantial robustness against a wide range of skew conditions.

With the recent advancements in various wireless communication technologies, the importance of mobile multicasting is coming to the fore, in an effort to use network resources more efficiently. In the past, when various mobile IP-based multicast techniques were proposed, the focus was put on the costs needed for network delivery for providing multicast services, as well as on minimizing the multicast handover delay. For techniques using MIPv6 (Mobile IPv6), a host-based mobility management protocol, however, it is fundamentally difficult to resolve the problems of handover delay and tunnel convergence. To resolve these problems, a network-based mobility management protocol called PMIPv6 (Proxy Mobile IPv6) was standardized. Although performance is improved in PMIPv6 over MIPv6, it still suffers from the problems of handover delay and tunnel convergence. In this paper, to overcome these limitations, a technique called LFH (Low-cost and Fast Handoff) is proposed for fast and low-cost mobility management with multicasting support in PMIPv6 networks. To reduce the interactions between the complex multicast routing protocol and the multicast messages, a simplified proxy method called MLD (Multicast Listener Discovery) is implemented and modified. Furthermore, a TCR (Tunnel Combination and Reconstruction) algorithm was used in the multicast handover procedure within the LMA (Local Mobility Anchor) domain, as well as in the multicast handover procedure between domains, in order to overcome the problem of tunnel convergence. As a result, it was found that LFH has reduced multicast delay compared to other types of multicast techniques, and that it requires lower costs as well.

Recently, Expectation Area-based Real-time Routing (EAR2) protocol has been proposed to support real-time routing in wireless sensor networks. EAR2 considers the expectation area of a mobile sink and uses flooding within the expectation area. However, flooding leads to excessive energy consumption and causes long delay against real-time routing. Moreover, since EAR2 uses single path to the expectation area, it is difficult to support reliable routing in sensor networks with high link failures. Thus, to overcome these limitation of EAR2, this paper proposes a reliable and real-time routing protocol based on virtual grids and multipath for mobile sinks. To support real-time routing, the proposed protocol considers expectation grids belonged to the expectation area. Instead of flooding within the expectation area, the proposed protocol uses multicasting to the expectation grids and single hop forwarding in an expectation grid because the multicasting can save much energy and the single hop forwarding can provide short delay. Also, the proposed protocol uses multipath to the expectation grids to deal with link failures for supporting reliable routing. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol is superior to the existing protocols.
This paper presents dynamic modelling of a virtual object in augmented reality environments when external forces are applied to the object in real-time fashion. In order to simulate a natural behavior of the object we employ the theory of Newtonian physics to construct motion equation of the object according to the varying external forces applied to the AR object. In dynamic modelling process, the physical interaction is taken placed between the augmented object and the physical object such as a haptic input device and the external forces are transferred to the object. The intrinsic properties of the augmented object are either rigid or elastically deformable (non-rigid) model. In case of the rigid object, the dynamic motion of the object is simulated when the augmented object is collided with by the haptic stick by considering linear momentum or angular momentum. In the case of the non-rigid object, the physics-based simulation approach is adopted since the elastically deformable models respond in a natural way to the external or internal forces and constraints. Depending on the characteristics of force caused by a user through a haptic interface and model's intrinsic properties, the virtual elastic object in AR is deformed naturally. In the simulation, we exploit standard mass-spring damper differential equation so called Newton's second law of motion to model deformable objects. From the experiments, we can successfully visualize the behavior of a virtual objects in AR based on the theorem of physics when the haptic device interact with the rigid or non-rigid virtual object.
As electronic mails are being widely used for facility and speedness of information communication, as the amount of spam mails which have malice and advertisement increase and cause lots of social and economic problem. A number of approaches have been proposed to alleviate the impact of spam. These approaches can be categorized into pre-acceptance and post-acceptance methods. Post-acceptance methods include bayesian filters, collaborative filtering and e-mail prioritization which are based on words or sentances. But, spammers are changing those characteristics and sending to avoid filtering system. In the case of Korean, the abnormal usages can be much more than other languages because syllable is composed of chosung, jungsung, and jongsung. Existing formal expressions and learning algorithms have the limits to meet with those changes promptly and efficiently. So, we present an methods for recognizing Korean abnormal language(Koral) to improve accuracy and efficiency of filtering system. The method is based on syllabic than word and Smith-waterman algorithm. Through the experiment on filter keyword and e-mail extracted from mail server, we confirmed that Koral is recognized exactly according to similarity level. The required time and space costs are within the permitted limit.
As reusability becomes recognized more importantly, with the introduction of ObjectOriented Programming Languages, developers not only want to reduce development duration, but also to develop a proper system robustly and safely by renovating the Hot Spot in order to reuse the existing framework. When we perform these works, we need the development environment which is the Rapid Application Development tool, and the RAD tools provide us with the convenient development environment. The need of RAD tools is recognized by every Object-Oriented programmer, and many business enterprises are developing them. In this paper, we will present a design and implementation of module-based modeler as a method for developing technique to constmct user-driven Intranet environment for the generation of the program based on the framework. The framework modeler used Java language that is independent on platform, and applied the technique of OMT editor that provides the UML notation partially. Additionally, The modeler also includes the notations that are not supported in OMT editor. In addition to this characteristic, it is structured to develop system consistently with applying the Agent pattern, which is a design pattern suggested by ourselves, to send messages occurred between various Views. The existing MVC(Model-View-Controller) architecture does not have this function. Thus, this tool has a flexibility when user's requirements are changed, or functions are extended.
We investigate the effect of the data skew of join attributes on the performance of a pipelined multi-way hash join method, and propose two new harsh join methods in the shared-nothing multiprocessor environment. The first proposed method allocates buckets statically by round-robin fashion, and the second one allocates buckets dynamically via a frequency distribution. Using harsh-based joins, multiple joins can be pipelined to that the early results from a join, before the whole join is completed, are sent to the next join processing without staying in disks. Shared nothing multiprocessor architecture is known to be more scalable to support very large databases. However, this hardware structure is very sensitive to the data skew. Unless the pipelining execution of multiple hash joins includes some dynamic load balancing mechanism, the skew effect can severely deteriorate the system performance. In this parer, we derive an execution model of the pipeline segment and a cost model, and develop a simulator for the study. As shown by our simulation with a wide range of parameters, join selectivities and sizes of relations deteriorate the system performance as the degree of data skew is larger. But the proposed method using a large number of buckets and a tuning technique can offer substantial robustness against a wide range of skew conditions.
Dynamic Thermal Management (DTM) technique is generally used for reducing the peak temperature (hotspot) in the microprocessors. Despite the advantages of lower cooling cost and improved stability, the DTM technique inevitably suffers from performance loss. This paper proposes the DualFloating-Point Adders Architecture to minimize the performance loss due to thermal problem when the floating-point applications are executed. During running floating-point applications, only one of two floating-point adders is used selectively in the proposed architecture, leading to reduced peak temperature in the processor. We also propose a new floorplan technique, which creates Space for Heat Transfer Delay in the processor for solving the thermal problem due to heat transfer between adjacent hot units. As a result, the peak temperature drops by $5.3^{\circ}C$ on the average (maximum $10.8^{\circ}C$ for the processor where the DTM is adopted, consequently giving a solution to the thermal problem. Moreover, the processor performance is improved by 41% on the average by reducing the stall time due to the DTM.

Eradication of endemic malaria was declared in mid 1980's in Korea, but the number of malaria cases has been oscillating for the past 10 years since the reemergence of the disease in early 1990's. The occurrence of malaria has been concentrated near the demilitarized zone(DMZ), and the regional characteristics of the disease are evident. Considering the spatial variations of malaria incidence across the high-risk areas, the hotspot of the disease, it seems that the occurrence of the disease is influenced by the natural and human environment in the region. Malaria is an infectious disease that is transmitted to humans by the bites of vector-mosquitoes carrying malaria parasites, and it depends on specific climatic and sociodemographic factors. Malaria transmission is highly climate-sensitive, and temperature is the most important component. In addition, human contacts with vector-mosquitoes and the distance between human residence and mosquito habitats are crucial conditions determining malaria incidence rates. The present study aimed to test a hypothesis that the spatial characteristics of malaria incidence depended on local climatic conditions, relative proportions of mosquito habitats, and the distance between mosquito habitats and human residence using meteorological and satellite-based land cover data.
