We focus on the mobile agents which are considered as new paradigm to solve information retrieval of large volumes of data in the distributed and heterogeneous environment. The mobile agent moves the computation to data instead of large volumes of data to computations. In this paper, we propose an information retrieval model, which can effectively search data in the distributed and heterogeneous environment, using mobile agents. Our model is applied to the design and implementation of an Q&A(Question and Answer) retrieval system. Our Q&A retrieval system, called QASSMA(Q&A Search System using Mobile Agents), uses mobile agents to retrieve articles from Q&A boards and newsgroups that exist in the heterogeneous and distributed environment. QASSMA has the following features and advantages. First, the mobile retrieval agent moves to the destination server to retrieve articles to reduce the retrieval time by eliminating data traffics from the server to the client host. Also it can reduce the traffic that was occurred in the centralized network system, and reduce the usage of resources by sending its agent and running in the destination host. Finally, the mobile retrieval agent of QASSMA can add and update dynamically the class file according to its retrieval environment, and support other retrieval manner. In this paper, we have shown that our Q&A retrieval system using mobile agents is more efficient than the retrieval system using static agents by our experiments.

인터넷의 사용이 보편화됨에 따라 빠르게 변화하는 사용자의 요구를 만족시킴과 동시에 편리하고 유용한 서비스를 제공하기 위하여 사용자와 자연스럽게 의사소통할 수 있는 대화형 에이전트의 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 그러나 현재 상용되고 있는 대부분의 대화형 에이전트들은 도메인 제한적 정보만을 제공하는 경향이 있어 도메인 변경의 경우 스크립트에서부터 새롭게 설계해야 하는 이중 부담을 겪고 있다. 본 논문에서는 스크립트 설계자가 특별한 사전 지식 없이도 간단한 입력 절차만 거쳐 자동으로 스크립트를 재구성할 수 있는 스크립트 인터페이스 구현에 초점을 맞춘다. 이 때 자연어로 입력되는 사용자 질의의 다양한 어휘들을 자동으로 대표 언어로 변환시킬 수 있도록 온톨로지 개념을 도입하여 동의어 사전을 구축함으로써 시스템의 효율성을 극대화한다. 또한 질의에 대한 다양한 답변 생성을 가능하게 하며, 실제 의류 사이트를 안내하는 대화형 에이전트를 구현하여 적용해 봄으로써 그 가능성을 알아본다.

인터넷을 통한 정보 제공이 늘어남에 따라서 사용자가 원하는 정보를 손쉽게 얻기 위한 .연구가 활발히 진행되고 있으며. 이러한 연구 중 하나가 대화형 에이전트이다. 최근 대화형 에이전트에서 사용자 질의의 주제 추론을 위하여 베이지안 네트워크가 적용되었다 하지만 베이지안 네트워크의 설계는 많은 시간이 소요되며, 스크립트(대화를 위한 데이터베이스)의 추가 변경시에는 베이지안 네트워크도 같이 수정해야 하는 번거로움이 있어 대화형 에이전트의 확장성을 저해하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 스크립트로부터 베이지안 네트워크를 자동으로 생성하여 베이지안 네트워크를 이용한 대화형 에이전트의 확장성을 높이는 방법을 제안하다. 제안하는 방법은 베이지안 네트워크의 구성 노드를 계층적으로 설계하고. Noisy-OR gate를 사용하여 베이지안 네트워크의 조건부 확률 테이블을 계산한다. 피험자 10명이 대화형 에이전트를 위한 베이지안 네트워크를 수동 설계한 것과 비교하여 제안하는 방법의 유용성을 확인하였다.

Due to the recent explosive progress of Web, We can easily access a large number of images from m. In this paper, we describe our approach of developing a general purpose content based image retrieval system over the H using a Web agent. The Web agent extracts text information of images from the links and file contents in HTML. The proposed system retrieves the images from database using the query by sketch and the query by example on Web browser. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the new approach.

As the amount of information on Internet sites increases, it becomes more necessary to provide information in efficient ways. However, information search methods based on Boolean combination of keywords that most sites provide are difficult to express user's intention adequately so that there are numerous unexpected search results. This paper proposes a conversational agent that provides users with accurate information in a friendly manner through natural language conversation. The agent recognizes user's intention by applying finite state automata to natural language queries, utilizes the intention for structured pattern matching with response knowledge, and thus provides answers that are robust against changes in word order and consistent with the user's intention. To show its practical utility, the agent is applied to the problem of introducing a Web site. The results show that the conversational agent has the ability to provide accurate and friendly responses.

인터넷이 급속히 발전하고 확산되면서 정보를 효율적으로 활용하고 유통시키기 위한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. OAI(Open Archives Initiative)에서는 대용량 정보를 메타데이터를 이용하여 공유하고 검색할 수 있는 프로토콜 및 임프라에 대한 연구와 표준화를 추진하고 있다. 또한 EMAF(An Extensible Multi-Agent Framework)에서는 멀티에이전트를 이용한 정보 유통 및 활용한 대한 연구가 진행중이다. 이에, 본 논문에서는 메타데이타과 XML, 멀티에이전트를 이용한 분산검색 시스템을 설계하고 구현하였다. 본 시스템은 조정에이전트와 응용에이전트로 구성되고 에이전트간 통신에는 XML과 OAI의 메타데이타 하비스팅 프로토콜을 응용하였다. 메타데이터에 대한 검색을 수행하여 검색 성능을 높일 수 있었으며 또한 사용자가 입력한 문장 단위의 질의를 처리할 수 있는 기능과 관련어를 추출할 수 있는 기능도 제공한다.

Generally, most commercial retrieval engines adopt boolean query as user's query type. Although boolean query is useful to retrieval engines that need fast retrieval, it is not easy for user to express his demands with boolean operators. So, many researches have been studied for decades about information retrieval systems using natural language query that is convenient for user. To retrieve documents that are suitable for user's demands, they have to express their demands correctly, So, this thesis proposes interactive query process agent using natural language. This agent expresses demands concrete through gradual interaction with user, When users input a natural language Query, this agent analyzes the query and generates boolean query by selecting proper keyword and feedbacks the state of the keyword selected. If the keyword is a synonymy or a polysemy, the agent expands or limits the keyword through interaction with user. It makes user express demands more concrete and improve system performance. So, this agent can improve the precision of Information Retrieval.

As the use of internet becomes proliferated, a great amount of information is provided through diverse channels. Users require effective information providing service and we have studied the conversational agent that exchanges information between users and agents using natural language dialogue. In this paper, we develop a question answering agent providing the corresponding answer by analyzing the user's intention using artificial intelligence techniques such as pattern matching and Bayesian network We work out various problems in knowledge representation of users by constructing keyword synonym database. The proposed method is applied to designing an agent for the introduction of a fashion web site, which confirms that it responds more flexibly to the user's queries.

인터넷의 웹은 여러 곳에 분산되어 있을 뿐만 아니라 끊임없이 동적으로 변화하는 특성이 있기 때문에, 보통의 인덱스를 통한 정보검색 방법에는 한계가 있다. 이러한 웹의 특성을 적절히 살리면서 원하는 정보를 신속하게 검색하기 위하여, 본 논문에서는 여러 개의 에이전트가 인공생명 기법에 의해 조직되어 정보를 검색하는 온라인 에이전트를 소개한다. 이것은 각각의 에이전트에 의하여 검색된 문서가 얼마나 질의에 가까운가에 따라서 해당 에이전트를 만이 살아 남아 문서를 가져오도록 함으로써, 불필요한 문서를 검색하지 않게 되어 단위 시간에 원하는 문서를 많이 얻어올 수 있는 장점이 있다. 실제 웹 환경에서 실험한 결과 종래의 폭우선 검색이나 랜덤검색에 비하여 좋은 결과를 내는 것을 볼 수 있었다.

인터넷 이용자 수가 크게 증가함에 따라 각 사이트에서는 사용자가 원하는 정보를 효과적으로 제공해야 하는 문제가 대두되어, 최근 사용자와 자연어로 정보를 주고 받으며 사이트의 가상 대리자 역할을 수행할 수 있는 대화형 에이전트에 관한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 그러나 많은 대화형 에이전트가 사용자의 의도를 고려하지 않은 단순한 패턴매칭 기법을 사용하기 때문에 사용자에게 만족스러운 답변을 주지 못하는 경우가 많이 발생한다. 이 논문에서는 대화형 에이전트가 보다 지능적인 대화를 수행할 수 있도록 하기 위해 베이지안 네트워크를 적용하여 사용자의 의도를 모델링하는 방법을 제시한다. 특정 도메인의 소개를 대행하는 대화형 에이전트에 적용한 결과, 사용자의 질의 의도를 파악함으로써 보다 대화 의도에 적합한 대답을 수행하여 그 기능성을 볼 수 있었다.
