  • The objective of this study is to analyze the project performance and development process of the phase 1 project of GFEZ from 2004 to 2010. The phase 1 project from 2004 to 2010 is consist of eleven project zones. Among these zones, eight zones are currently underway and three zones have been completed. The performance of the phase 1 projects is no so much because it were stated later than planning with the difficulty of business developers selection. The major performances are development and supply of industrial & residential land, construction of road and railway, investment promotion of 102 companies, and creation of 20,971 new jobs. Most of the direct invested companies were located at Gwangyang and Yulchon Districts, and were mainly logistics and related service, iron and steel, machinery, shipbuilding, and fine chemicals. The main problems, however, are the limit of promotion of high-tech industries and large firms, low FDI reported rate, difficulty of superior business developers, delayed business progress of Hadong district. Therefore, efforts to solve these problems are required for the success of GFEZ.

  • Since the Korea-Chile FTA in 2003, eight FTAs are now in force including Korea-EU and Korea-US FTA. The government anticipate that FTAs increase the GDP of Korea. Government-related research institutes officially reports the positive economic impact in Korea. However, the report does not show that how much Busan economy is affected by the FTAs. For this reason, we study the economic effects of FTAs in Busan. We compare the trade statistics before and after the time each FTA is in force. The resulting figures show that the exports and trades of Busan with the FTA nations increased significantly after the enforcement. For example, the exports to Chile increased by 273% when we compare the three-year average trade. We also construct an econometrics model to estimate the price elasticity. The estimated elasticity of exports for manufactured goods is 1.38 while that of imports is 0.83. Among the manufacturing industry, machinery has the highest price elasticity, 1.8. The average tariff for manufactured goods is 3.9% for FTA nations, while that is 5.8% for Busan. This higher price fall in Busan is offset by the lower price elasticity to make Busan's export increase be greater than Busan's import increase. Busan's export increases by 4.8% while import increases by 3.7%. So, it is expected to be added to the annual trade surplus of approximately $107million.

  • Safety management has become even more important because of the safety and environmental issues that have arisen since the 2000s. However, the safety study requires many empirical data, so there are many limitations. In the case of pipe safety, simulation programs exist, but it is difficult to get data about the pipe internal erosion of the pipe. In this study, the erosion rate of the pipe elbow was simulated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Also, the failure period of the pipe was calculated by the limit state function using erosion rate. In the case of CFD pipe, a sample which is actually operated in Yeosu industrial complex was used, and the geometry and mesh formation were rationalized in terms of typical fluid dynamics simulations. Using the Discrete Phase Model (DPM) and the corrosion model, the erosion rate ($3.09227mm{\cdot}yr^{-1}$) was obtained from CFD simulations. As a result of applying the erosion rate to the limit state function, we obtained the pipe failure period value, 14.2 years to trigger a leak and 28.2 years to trigger a burst. Through these processes, we concluded that pipe erosion is one of the major failure modes. In addition to the results, this study has significance for suggesting the methodology of the pipe safety study.

  • Recently, various composite materials for additive manufacturing are interested to expand the application field of 3D printing. 3D printing technique was mainly developed using polymer, and ceramic materials for 3D printing are still in the early stage of research due to the requirement of high solid content and post treatment process. In this study, silica particles with various diameters were surface treated with silane coupling agent, and synthesized as silica composite with photopolymer to apply DLP 3D printing process. DLP is an additive manufacturing technology, which has high accuracy and applicability of various composite materials. The rheological behavior of silica composite was analyzed with various solid contents. After DLP 3D printing was performed using silica composites, the printing accuracy of the 3D printed specimen was less than about 3 % to compare with digital data and he bending strength was 34.3 MPa at the solid content of 80 wt%.

  • This paper analyzed the restrictiveness of the rules of origin of the 15 FTAs of Korea utilizing the restrictiveness index suggested by Estevadeordal(2000). The main purpose of the paper is to provide an update of the current status and characteristics of the restrictiveness of the rules of origin based on product type and country. The research showed that FTA with EU and Turkey showed the highest restrictiveness, whereas New Zealand, Peru and India showed the lowest. Overall, Korea's restrictiveness index was found to be at appropriate levels. Additionally, in terms of the current status by restrictiveness index, over time with the exception of European countries in the FTA, products with the lowest score in restrictiveness index of 2 continued to be processed in the Korea-Peru FTA which illustrated the current trend of easing restrictiveness. In terms of restrictiveness index based on product type, commodity products, processed food, clothing-fabric-general merchandise were found to be very strict. However, in categories such as general machinery, electronics, chemical products and precision instruments, the restrictiveness index showed the lowest readings. The results imply the high restrictiveness in sensitive products that are vulnerable from competition through high tariffs, and easing of restrictiveness in competitive products in order to vitalize trade. The results also show that in Korea's FTA, Korea's rules of origin in FTA vary and are sorted in a complicated manner. With an increasing number of FTAs and a number of different rules of origin, there is a need for standardized criteria for Korea. This study was significant in that it compiled all the rules of origin and the restrictiveness index of all FTAs that came into effect and have been negotiated in Korea. The results of the research are expected to be used as an informative and meaningful guideline for Korea's FTAs.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to create a 3D printable snack dish model for the elderly with low food or fluid intake along with barriers towards eating. Methods: The decision was made by the hybrid-brainstorming method for creating the 3D model. Experts were assigned based on their professional areas such as clinical nutrition, food hygiene and chemical safety for the creation process. After serial feedback processes, the grape shape was suggested as the final model. After various concept sketching and making clay models, 3D-printing technology was applied to produce a prototype. Results: 3D design modeling process was conducted by SolidWorks program. After considering Dietary reference intakes for Koreans (KDRIs) and other survey data, appropriate supplementary water serving volume was decided as 285 mL which meets 30% of Adequate intake. To consider printing output conditions, this model has six grapes in one bunch with a safety lid. The FDM printer and PLA filaments were used for food hygiene and safety. To stimulate cognitive functions and interests of eating, numbers one to six was engraved on the lid of the final 3D model. Conclusions: The newly-developed 3D model was designed to increase intakes of nutrients and water in the elderly with dementia during snack time. Since dementia patients often forget to eat, engraving numbers on the grapes was conducted to stimulate cognitive function related to the swallowing and chewing process. We suggest that investigations on the types of foods or fluids are needed in the developed 3D model snack dish for future studies.
