  • The amount of damage and the area of damage to forest fires are increasing globally, and the effectiveness analysis of the restoration method after the damage is performed insufficient. This study calculated the area of forest fire damage was calculated using Sentinel-2B satellite images and stack map and the intensity of forest fire damage is analyzed according to the forest type. In addition, the vegetation index was calculated using various wavelength bands. Based on the results, the vegetation resilience by the restoration method was quantitatively. As results, areas with a high proportion of coniferous forests suffered high intensity forest fire damage, and areas with a relatively high ratio of mixed and broad-leaved forests tended to have low forest fire damage. Also, artificial forests showed a recovery of about 92.7% compared to before forest fires and natural forests showed a recovery of about 99.6% from the result of analyzing vegetation resilience in artificial and natural forests after forest fires. Accordingly, it was confirmed that natural forests after forest fire damage had superior vegetation resilience compared to artificial forests. It can be proposed that this study is meaningful in providing important information for efficiently restoring the affected target site and the selection criteria for trees to reduce forest fire damage through the evaluation of vegetation resilience by the intensity of forest fire damage and restoration methods.

  • In this paper, two white light emitting diodes(LEDs) were manufactured by using two kinds of yellow phosphor, YAG:Ce and $(Sr,Ba)_2SiO_4:Eu$, and their spectroscopic properties were compared and analyzed. We found that the asymmetric double sigmoidal function can be applied to both white LEDs to obtain the center wavelength, the half width, and the skewness parameters. According to this analysis, the half width of the emitting spectrum of silicate phosphor was smaller than that of YAG phosphor, indicating smaller color rendering index. However, the silicate phosphor exhibited better color stability depending on the driving current than the YAG phosphor. The current dependence of the luminous efficacy of both white LEDs was investigated, which showed that efficacy decreased monotonically with current. The efficacy of the silicate-based white LED was lower than that of the YAG-based LED by about 10~12 lm/W.

  • To prepare the integrated safety management system 'e-navigation', research is being conducted on the route exchange for sharing intended routes between ship and ship, and between ship and land. But they don't have enough specific grounds for the effects of route exchange and the necessity of its introduction and focus on technical aspects like the implementation of route exchange. This study tried to quantitatively analyze the effects of route exchange on sailing safety with the use of ship handling simulation, integrate simulation performers' subjective evaluations, and investigate the effects of route exchange. The ship-to-ship route exchange resulted in the initial collision avoidance action time was 3.43 minutes faster, the collision avoidance direction change rate was 60 %, the proximity to target A was 31 %, and Mean Rudder Angle Index decreased by 57 %. In addition, 95 % of the survey respondents had an effect on the decision making of collision avoidance, 85 % had a positive impact on safety navigation, 90 % had an accident prevention effect, 70 % reduced the psychological burden of officers, and 70 % should be introduced in practice.

  • The dynamics of suspended sediment (SS) in forested catchments vary depending upon human or natural disturbances, including land use change, forestry activity, forest fires, and landslides. Understanding the dynamics of SS originating from the potential sources within a forested catchment is crucial for establishing an effective water quality management strategy. Therefore, to suggest a systematic method for interpreting SS dynamics, we evaluated the performance and applicability of ten methods for calculating the hysteresis index based on observed hydrological data and two calculation models (Lawler's method and Lloyd's method) with five sampling intervals (50th, 25th, 10th, 5th, and 1st percentiles). Our results showed that Lloyd's method, which used a sampling interval at the 1st percentile, had the largest number of analyzable runoff events and exhibited the best performance. The results of this study can contribute to quantifying the hysteresis in the relationship between discharge and SS and provide useful information for interpreting SS dynamics.

  • The classification using spectral angle is a new approach based on the fact that the spectra of the same type of surface objects in RS data are approximately linearly scaled variations of one another due to atmospheric and topographic effects. There are many researches on the unsupervised classification using spectral angle recently. Nevertheless, there are only a few which consider the characteristics of Hyperspectral data. On this study, we propose the ISOMUSAC(Iterative Self-Organizing Modified Unsupervised Spectral Angle Classification) which can supplement the defects of previous unsupervised spectral angle classification. ISOMUSAC uses the Angle Division for the selection of seed points and calculates the center of clusters using spectral angle. In addition, ISOMUSAC perform the iterative merging and splitting clusters. As a result, the proposed algorithm can reduce the time of processing and generate better classification result than previous unsupervised classification algorithms by visual and quantitative analysis. For the comparison with previous unsupervised spectral angle classification by quantitative analysis, we propose Validity Index using spectral angle.

  • Previously, a new concept of indexing methodology has been proposed for quantitative assessment of tunnel collapse hazard level at each tunnel face with respect to the given geological data, design condition and the corresponding construction activity (Shin et al, 2009a). In this paper, 'linear' model, in which weights of influence factors are invariable, and 'non-linear' model, in which weights of influence factors are variable, are taken into account with some examples. Then, the 'non-linear' model is validated by using 100 tunnel collapse cases. It appears that 'non-linear' model allows us to have adapted weight values of influence factors to characteristics of given tunnel site. In order to make a better understanding and help for an effective use of the system, a series of operating processes of the system are built up. Then, by following the processes, the system is applied to a real-life tunnel project in very weak and varying ground conditions. Through this approach, it would be quite apparent that the tunnel collapse hazard indices are determined by well interlinked consideration of face mapping data as well as design/construction data. The calculated indices seem to be in good agreement with available electric resistivity distribution and design/construction status. In addition, This approach could enhance effective usage of face mapping data and lead timely and well corresponding field reactions to situation of weak tunnel faces.

  • The present study is to understand the Bongseonsa stream in the National Arboretum fish fauna variation through comparison with historical data and to evaluate the stream health situated. We performed investigations over three times from April to September 2015. In the survey, 2,960 individuals which belonging to 22 species, 8 families were collected. Dominant species by number was Zacco platypus and subdominant species was Zacco koreanus. Seven Korean endemic species (Squalidus gracilis majimae, Microphysogobio yaluensis, Zacco koreanus, Koreocobitis rotundicausata, etc) were observed and showed a ratio of 36.4%. The community analysis revealed that the structure of fish community in the study sampling sites was instability in having dominance 0.79 (${\pm}0.15$), diverse 1.21 (${\pm}0.60$), evenness 0.58 (${\pm}0.15$) and species richness 1.49 (${\pm}0.83$). The values in the Qualitative Habitat Evaluation Index (QHEI) was averagely 122.9 (${\pm}44.8$) in the Bongseonsa stream and this was showed to have favorable habitat surroundings. As a result of tolerance guild analysis, the total number of sensitive species and intermediate species were higher than tolerant species. Analysis was divided into A and B two groups of fiducial 12.25% in Cluster analysis degree of similarity between study sampling sites. Fish Assessment Index (FAI) was rated A and B grade in Bongseonsa stream that stream health showed favorable. However Wangsuk stream as a urban stream rated C grade and analysed the lowest grade in the whole study sampling sites. There was high correlation beteween FAI and various indexes, dominance, diverse, evenness and sensitive species and intermediate species.

  • Time-dependent flow properties of mustard pastes were measured at various total solid contents $(TS,\;18{\sim}30%)$ and shear rates $(15{\sim}25\;s^{-1})$ using a Haake concentric cylinderical viscometer. Experimental data of the stress decay with time of shearing were fitted to three mathematical models proposed by Weltman, Figoni and Shoemaker, and Hahn. Time-dependent flow behaviour of mustard paste increased with increase in TS, but was found to vary in the range of shear rate investigated. Time-dependent model of Weltman was found to be most applicable $(average\;R^2=0.96)$ for mustard paste. Shear stresses for structure breakdown increased with increase in TS, while the structure breakdown rate decreased.

  • In various engineering fields, determining the appropriate parameter set is a cumbersome and difficult task when solving optimization problems. Despite the appropriate parameter setting through parameter sensitivity analysis, there are limits to evaluating whether the parameters are appropriate for all optimization problems. For this reason, kinds of a Self-adaptive Harmony searches have been developed to solve various engineering problems by the appropriate setting of algorithm's own parameters according to the problem. In this study, various types of Self-adaptive Harmony searches were investigated and the characteristics of optimization were categorized. Six algorithms with a differentiation of optimization process were applied and compared with not only the mathematical optimization problem, but also the engineering problem, which has been applied widely in the algorithm performance comparisons. The performance of each algorithm was compared, and the statistical performance indicators were used to evaluate the application results quantitatively.

  • Conjunctive use of surface and ground water has drawn much attention as a promising means to solve water shortage problems. Characterized by its maximum utilization of regional resources and environmental friendliness, conjunctive use is expected to contribute to the integrated water resources management in the coming era. This paper examines the applicability of the methodology for conjunctive use developed in the companion paper (this issue). The method consists of the entire process of conjunctive use, including site assessment using analytic hierarchy process, management scenario development based on drought analysis, and evaluation of benefits obtained. Sokcho City was chosen as the study area, and the application of derived operation scenarios for surface and subsurface reservoirs revealed that water of 4.9∼7.4 million cubic meters a year can be attainable additionally. The developed methodology enables one to devise management schemes and to quantify their effectiveness, which makes the method useful for water resources planners as well as practitioners.
