Characteristics of Dynamic Shear Behavior of Pile-Soil Interface Considering pH Conditions of Groundwater (지하수 pH조건을 고려한 말뚝-지반 접촉면의 동적 전단거동 특성)

  • A pile is a type of medium for constructing superstructures in weak geotechnical conditions. A pretensioned spun high-strength concrete (PHC) pile is composed of high-strength concrete with a specified strength greater than 80 MPa. Therefore, it has advantages in resistance to axial and bending moments and quality control and management since it is manufactured in a factory. However, the skin friction of a pile, which accounts for a large portion of the pile bearing capacity, is only approximated using empirical equations or standard penetration test (SPT) N-values. Particularly, there are some poor research results on the pile-soil interface under the seismic loads in Korea. Additionally, some studies do not consider geoenvironmental elements, such as groundwater pH values. This study performs sets of cyclic simple shear tests using submerged concrete specimens for 1 month to consider pH values of groundwater and clay specimens composed of kaolinite to generate a pile-soil interface. 0.2 and 0.4 MPa of normal stress conditions are considered in the case of pH values. The disturbed state concept is employed to express the dynamic behavior of the interface, and the disturbed function parameters are newly suggested. Consequently, the largest disturbance increase under basic conditions is observed, and an early approach to the failure under low normal stress conditions is presented. The disturbance function parameters are also suggested to express this disposition quantitatively.

Experimental Study on Adfreeze Bond Strength Between Frozen Sand and Aluminium with Varying Freezing Temperature and Vertical Confining Pressure (동결온도와 수직구속응력 변화에 따른 모래와 알루미늄 재료의 접촉면에서 작용하는 동착강도 실험 연구)

  • Bearing capacity of pile foundations in cold region is dominated by adfreeze bond strength between surrounding soil and pile perimeter. Adfreeze bond strength is considered to be the most important design parameter for foundations in cold region. Many studies in last 50 years have been conducted to analyze characteristics of adfreeze bond strength. However, most studies have been performed under constant temperature and normal stress conditions in order to analyze affecting factors like soil type, pile material, loading speed, etc. In this study, both freezing temperature and normal stress acting on pile surface were considered to be primary factors affecting adfreeze bond strength, while other factors such as soil type, pile material and loading speed were predefined. Direct shear box was used to measure adfreeze bond strength between Joomoonjin sand and aluminium because it is easy to work for various roughness. Test was performed with temperatures of > $0^{\circ}C$, $-1^{\circ}C$, $-2^{\circ}C$, $-5^{\circ}C$, and $-10^{\circ}C$ and vertical confining pressures of 1atm, 2atm, and 3atm. Based on the test results, the effects of temperature and vertical stress on adfreeze bond strength were analyzed. The test results showed that adfreeze bond strength increases with decreased temperature and increased vertical stress. It was also noted that two types of distinct sections exist, owing to the rate of increase of adfreeze bond strength along the change of freezing temperature: 1)rapidly increasing section and 2)gradually decreasing section. In addition, the results showed that a main factor affecting adfreeze bond strength switches from friction angle to adhesion as freezing temperature decreases.

A New Coefficient for Three Dimensional Quantification of Rock Joint Roughness (암석 절리면 거칠기의 새로운 3차원 정량화 계수)

  • Roughness of rock joint has generally been characterized based upon geometrical aspects of a two-dimensional surface profile. The appropriate description of joint roughness, however, should consider the features of roughness mobilization at contact areas under normal and shear loads. In this study, direct shear tests were conducted on the replicas of tensile fractured gneiss joints and the influence of the shear direction on the shear behavior and effective roughness was examined. In this procedure, a joint surface was represented as a group of triangular planes, and the steepness of each plane was characterized using the concepts of the active and inactive micro-slope angles. The contact areas at peak strength which were estimated by a numerical method showed that the locations of the contact areas were mainly dependent on the distribution of the micro-slope angle and the shear behavior of joint was dominated by only the fractions with active micro-slope angles. Therefore, a three-dimensional coefficient for the quantification of rock joint roughness is proposed based on the distribution of active micro-slope angle: active roughness coefficient, $C_r$. Comparison of the active roughness coefficient and the peak shear strength obtained from the experiment suggests that the active roughness coefficient is the effective parameter to quantify the surface roughness and estimate the shear behavior of rock joint.

Optical characteristics of the UV intensity distribution in a non-contact type UV photoreactor (비접촉식 자외선 반응조에서 자외선 강도 분포의 광학적 특성)

  • The concept of a non-contact type of UV disinfection system was introduced in this study. UV lamps and their quartz sleeves hang over the water surface and there is no interface between the sleeve and water. Obviously, there is no fouling. Based on optical laws and other UV distribution models, a detail mathematical model for a non-contact type UV disinfection system was developed in this study. Pathway length of UV light in a non-contact type photoreactor is longer than that in a submerged type photoreactor because the light is more refractive while passing through 3 interfaces of medium. But the pathway length passing through the water media is not significantly longer than that in a submerged type photoreactor so, the absorption of UV light by water is not significantly different from the other system. Due to the reflection effect, UV intensity is rapidly decreased as the horizontal distance from the light source is increased. The reflective attenuation in a non-contact type photoreactor is higher than that in a submerged type photoreactor. These mean that the short photoreactor is advantageous than the narrow-long photoreactor for the non-contact type photoreactor in an optical point of view.

Crease Behavior of Thin Membrane (멤브레인의 접힘 거동 연구)

  • In this paper, geometrically and materially non-linear finite element analyses were performed to study the crease behavior of thin membranes. The cross-section of the membrane was modeled with 2-dimensional plane strain elements. To simulate the creasing process, the membrane mesh was folded, compressed to prescribed crease gauge by activating two rigid contact surfaces, and then released to give the crease topology. Various crease gauges were considered to investigate the effect of crease intensity on the initial deployment angle. The crease geometry was also obtained by experiments and the results were compared.

The Study for Stress Calculation of Slip Damage between Propeller Boss and Shaft on the Large Vessel (대형선 프로펠러보스 슬립 손상부에 대한 응력 계산에 관한 연구)

  • The accident of Slip damage which arose between propeller boss and shaft will be a great problem of safety and economical due to the loss of propulsion power. In this study, the cause of slip damage on the large vessel was surveyed by meeting with officers of troubled ship, checking of drawings on the new built and surveyor report of adjuster company. Additionally, the material of propeller had been compression tested for confirming the impact strength. The result of this studies would be promote the design strength for contact force for keyless propeller, and futhermore reduce the accident of propeller slip between propeller boss and shaft.

Disk harrow structure analysis of non-motorized composite implement of tractor (무동력 트랙터 복합작업기의 디스크 구조해석)

  • 무동력 복합작업기는 치즐쟁기와 디스크의 배열에 따라 작업성능이 좌우된다. 프레임과 디스크, 치즐쟁기에 가해지는 기본적인 힘의 상태를 확인하기 위한 정적 구조해석을 수행하였다. 복합작업기는 디스크는 $18^{\circ}$가 경사진 형태로 전면9개 후면9로 총 18개, 치즐쟁기(Chiselplow)는 4개로, 디스크는 모두 18개이다. 정적인 상태에서 끄는 견인력은 100마력, 150마력, 200마력으로 하였으며 Inventor의 해석 시스템은 힘을 N으로 사용하기 때문에 각 마력에 부가되는 하중을 N으로 치환하여 사용하였다. 구속조건은 frame과, disc, chisel plow에 맞닿는 면을 구속하고, 힘의 방향은 프레임과 트랙터의 연결면, 디스크 날과 땅의 접촉면에 적용했다. front /rear 디스크는 이론상으로는 양 디스크가 쌍으로 마주하고 있어서 스캔데이타를 중심으로 모델링한 결과를 바탕으로, 전후면 디스크해로우의 해석을 수행하였다. 조립 또는 사용상의 문제점이나 자연적인 유격에 의해 어느 정도 대칭이 되지 않을수 있으나 그 정도에 따라 진동과 내구성에 문제가 될 수도 있기에 한쌍에 대해 모델링을 통한 해석을 수행하였다. 해석결과에 따르면 디스크에 작용하는 폰미세스 응력은 극한강도에 미치지 않은 것으로 나타났으며 Frame의 최대 폰 미세스 응력을 제외하면, 대부분의 응력은 항복강도에 현저히 미치지 못하는 수치이고, 프레임의 경우는 150마력, 200마력으로 힘을 가할 때 항복강도는 넘는 수치이지만 극한인장강도에는 미치지 못하는 수치인 것을 알 수 있었다. 100마력에 폰 미세스 응력의 최대값은 0.161918 MPa이고 프레임 강의 항복강도인 207MPa와 디스크의 항복강도인 250MPa에 못 미치는 수치이다. 150마력과 200마력의 힘으로 회전할 때의 폰 미세스 응력의 최대값은 0.286425MPa과 0.381921 MPa로 항복강도인 250MPa에 크게 못 미치는 수치이다. 그 이유는 디스크해로우 방식의 복합작업기는 견인저항력이 작게 설계되고 작업속도를 개선하기 위한 목적으로 사용되기 때문으로 사료된다. 벤치마킹 기대의 Rear 디스크도 마찬가지로 각도는 $18^{\circ}$이며, 동일한 구속조건을 적용하여 시뮬레이션을 수행하였으며 해석결과는 모두 항복강도 이내로 예측 되었다. 디스크에 최대로 응력이 미치는 부분은 디스크와 프레임이 연결되는 허브 부분이다. 각도가 커짐에 따라 응력이 증가하므로 이를 감안한 설계인자 도출이 가능하다. 마력과 각도가 증가함에 따라 디스크 해로우에 작용하는 폰미세스 응력과, 접촉압력이 증가하므로 이에 대한 검토와 동적하중인 로드프로파일을 적용한 해석을 수행하여 내구수명 특성에 대한 연구를 수행할 계획이다.
