Preparation and Properties of Modified Polyethylenes: 2. Physical and Heat-Seal Properties of Films (변성 폴리에틸렌의 제조 및 물성 : 2. 필름의 물성 및 열접착 특성)

  • The modified polyethylene(m-PE) films were prepared from aqueous dispersions which were synthesized by reacting poly(ethylene-co-methylacrylate) with aqueous KOH and ammonia solution to attach -COOK, $CONH_2$, and COOH as pendent groups in the polyethylene backbones. Thermal, tensile and heat-seal properties were measured to investigate the effect of the pendent groups. Endothermic peaks on DSC curves were affected by the thermal history of the samples and a melting peak was observed at around $86^{\circ}C$ on the second heating curve while three melting peaks were shown on the first heating curve. A minimum value of tensile strength was shown at 70 mole% of COOK based on pendent groups. Tensile modulus increased with increasing the amide content in pendent groups. The m-PE films were heat-sealed at lower temperature than LDPE films and showed a minimum heat seal strength at around 70 mole% COOK content in pendent groups.

  • Recently, there have been several studies on the inspiration and application of optimized natural structures. One study introduced a new adhesion method that was inspired by the feet of geckos because of their superior features such as high adhesion strength, ease-of-removal, and they are environmentally friendly. Various micro- or nano-structures were fabricated and tested for gecko-like dry adhesives, but gecko-like dry adhesives that were developed became easily worn from frequent use. In this study, we propose a metal-coating method to improve the durability of gecko-like dry adhesives. We evaluate the initial adhesion strength and durability by performing repeated adhesion tests on a glass plate. The initial adhesive strength of gold-coated micro-structures was 60% of that for non-coated ones. However, the adhesive strength of gold-coated micro-structures was kept as 58% of their initial adhesion strength, while that of non-coated ones was only 40%.

  • In this study, we synthesized a excellent adhesive chlorinated polyolefin (CPO)-g-$\beta$-carboxy ethyl acid ($\beta$-CEA) by radical polymerization. Also, we prepared low-level toxic primer for polypropylene (PP) using CPO-g-$\beta$-CEA and studied toxic and adhesion property. We identified the graft structure and properties of the prepared chlorinated polyolefin-g-$\beta$ CEA using FT-IR, DSC, UTM. Graft ratio were optimum value at 5 wt% $\beta$-CEA contents in CPO-g-$\beta$ CEA. And the primer for PP was prepared with CPO-g-$\beta$ CEA and adhesive builder PX-95 content. Finally, optimum peel strength obtained when PX-95 contents was 3 wt%.

The Effects of Hexamethoxymethylmelamine on the Adhesion of Rubber to Brase-Plated Steel Cord (Hexamethoxymethylmelamine이 고무-황동피복코드간의 접착에 미치는 영향)

  • The morphology and adhesion properties of rubber compounds containing resorcinol formaldehyde(RF) resin and hexamethoxymethylmelamine(HMMM) used in adhesion of rubber to brass-plated steel cord was investigated. The resins were spherical particles about $2000{\AA}$ diameter and distributed in rubber compounds homogeneously, and the cured compound with steel cord showed migration of resin to steel cord. Also, modulus was increased with increasing HMMM contents. The loss of adhesion between rubber and steel cord was likely to be at initial stages by thermal aging. Considering the physical properties, suability of adhesion layer and thermal aging property, optimum ratio of RF resin and HMMM was 1 : 0.9.

  • The main objective of this study is to develop a test for measuring the bond shear strength between pavement layers. The research is also conducted to evaluate tack coat materials and application rate in porous pavement. The experiment includes using two types of emulsions (RSC-4, Modified Emulsion) and a asphalt binder type (HM-1). HM-1 was developed to be applied in porous pavement. The bond shear strengths were measured by a direct shear type device under various test conditions. The shear strength may not be appropriate in the evaluation of the bond shear strength, while the toughness of the test may be useful. In case of the tack coat application rate in porous pavement, RSC-4 has to be used a minimum amount of $0.8l/m^2$ and modified emulsion asphalt has to be applied a volume of use $0.5{\sim}0.6l/m^2$. HM-1, asphalt cement type, is far stronger bond shear strength than emulsified asphalt tack coat and had showed the excellent trackless property.

Study on the Thermal Properties and Adhesion Strength of Amorphous Polyalphaolefins/Petroleum Resin Blonds as a Hot Melt Adhesive (핫 멜트 접착제로 사용되는 비 결정성 올레핀 수지/석유수지 블렌드의 열적 성질 및 접착성에 관한 연구)

  • The effect of petroleum resin as a tackifier for polyalphaolefin (APAO) hot melt adhesive on thermal properties, crystallinity and adhesion strength was investigated. The presence of petroleum resin resulted in the melting temperature decrease in APAO/petroleum blend, especially, in APAO with low ethylene content/C$_{5}$ petroleum blend. It was also found that petroleum resin caused the decrease of crystallinity regardless of ethylene content in APAO. The maximum adhesion strength was found to be at 50/50 (APAO/petroleum) composition. $C_{5}$ resin was more effective to increase adhesion strength than $C_{9}$ for APAO with high ethylene content. In addition, it was found that the adhesion strength was improved with the decrease of crystallinity in APAO/petroleum resin hot melts.

  • Optical performance of the mirror for satellite camera is highly dependent on the adhesive properties of its support. Therefore, in this paper, the adhesive properties of three kinds of space adhesives are investigated. For this purpose, the lap shear test is performed with Zerodur-to-metal lap shear specimen as well as metal-to-metal one. And it is also investigated whether reliable adhesive strength can be secured after the specific thermal cycle. Finally, the properties of three adhesives are compared with each other.

  • ECR(Electron Cyclotron Resonance)은 전자기장에 의한 회전주파수와 전원으로 가해지는 마이크로웨이브(microwave)의 주파수가 일치할 때 발생하는 공진(resonance)현상이다. ECR에 의해 형성된 고밀도, 고에너지의 플라즈마가 상온하에서도 표면에너지가 낮은 고분자수지상에 접착력과 내구성 및 성능이 우수한 금속박막을 형성시킬 수 있는 특징을 지니고 있다. [1] 이러한 고분자수지 표면에 제조되는 금속박막소재는 반도체산업을 비롯하여, 박막전지, 전자파 차폐 등의 다양한 용도로 개발되고 있다. 그러나, 고분자수지와 금속박막계면간의 접착성의 저하로 후처리 공정에서 외부의 응력을 받게되면 막이 쉽게 탈리되는 문제점이 대두되었고, 이에 대한 개선이 요구되고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 공업적으로 많이 사용되는 표면 전처리방법을 통하여 구리 박막의 접착력을 향상시키고자 하였다. 상온화학증착 방법에 의해 고분자수지표면에 구리금속박막을 제조하고 여러 가지 표준방법을 사용하여 고분자수지와 구리박막간의 접착특성을 조사하였다.
